Hey all. I dunno about this, but I seem to have run into this credit card problem a few times and I have no idea on how to solve this.

I have a VISA card. Its expiration date is still at 2020. An hour ago, I used it for Google Play. It worked. A few minutes after that, I tried using it again, but it suddenly got my card declined. I went to Google Payments and removed the card and I re-entered its card number properly. But then it gave out the message 'Correct this card info or try again'. I made sure I typed correctly, but no such luck.

I thought it was just on Google so I went to Paypal. I got rejected as well.

What is the problem with this? Anyone can help? Thanks.

OTC isn't really an appropriate forum for this sort of very specific question, but I'll allow the topic in case someone has a quick answer. The most obvious thing to do is call your bank.

Call your bank. It could be any number of issues.

How high's your limit? When I still used mine, I set it to a pretty low limit since I really only used it for some online stuff. When you hit it, it gets declined as well.

They sometimes also cancel a card if they think it is being used for "unusual activity" (which is to say, someone might have hacked or stolen it). No, they usually will not bother to contact you ahead of time.

I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.

Regarding the original problem you had: sometimes banks disable cards if they think there has been a suspicious purchase, especially if it's a small purchase of a dollar or two right before a larger one. (That reads like someone found your credit card, tried it on a small purchase, found out that it worked, and went to use it for something big before it got deactivated.) Also, many banks and cards auto-reject two purchases for the same amount coming within a few minutes of each other, because they expect that it's actually been accidentally put in twice.

There are other things it could be too, like hitting the credit limit, especially if it was because a purchase that was pending just finished coming through and unexpectedly tied up your funds, especially if it was a monthly payment or such that you didn't account for, but those are the most common causes of such a thing happening. (At least when I worked in banking, although that experience is getting a little dated now.)

In the end, it comes down to call your bank or the credit card company to be sure of what's going on, why, and if it's something innocuous, how to avoid running into it in the future.
