I'm honestly always confused by DDLC shortening since I always read it as "what kind of Downloadable Content?"
I just wanna know what that link back there was supposed to be.
The post i was trying to show was an mc comic i saw last year on reddit. It wouldn't let me use the external link since I'm relatively still new here.

What was it about?
Its about MC being aware of his position in the game and how the player mocks him for not being able to save the girls. It ends with the girls saying they'll always be there for him.
Its a good comic for what t is. Its almost a year old by now. Its from reddit and its simply titled "cheer up mc."

Someone already linked that here 2 pages ago, is fine.

They did? I had no idea. Something i've been wondering for a while is what is people gonna think of ddlc 20 years from now if one were to look back at it
People 20 years later: "Boy, that certainly was a take on a visual novel, huh"
Interesting insight people 20 years later.
I feel bad for mc the most. Don't know i just find digital lobotomy scarier than being aware of your status as a non romanciable video game character. That and he's the only character that so far doesn't die.
I find his interaction with sayori endearing. If only he had realized she was depressed....

Yeah it dosent help that salvato seen to see him as sort of vehicle rather than a chararter in is own being, and so far he is quite rude to sayori.
I mean, being the victim of a living glinch and seen your friend/kinda girlfriend DIES?....fuck that shit.
you know I'm curious as to why dan decided to make mc a vehical for the player. I wish there was a better explanation that isn't half assed like being a genric vn character because i always saw it as lazy writting no matter how intentional it is and i realized that you don't need to be dense to not understand something as complex like depression.
Especially when we have visual novels that fleshes out their mcs
As for being rude to sayori, had he known sayori's depressed, he'd likely would've stopped being rude in the very beginning. He mostly took it for granted without realizing
I always wondered what his mental issue would've been if he wasn't relegated to stock vn protagonist
But since there isn't a future of ddlc, we'll never know if mc was conscious throughout act 2-4

I thought he explicitly said he wasn't.
it is isn't made clear if he is or isn't since the player vehical shtick can apply to any game out there. That and mc so far is the only character that doesn't exactly die.

The MC in literally any VN is explicitly a vehicle for the player, so there's no real question as to why that is the case in DDLC.
The MC in DDLC is played extremely vanilla as that's the actual point, you wouldn't really care.
But apparently some people did care, it's not exactly the writer's fault if that was the case. Fridge logic and all that.
Is it bad for me to care? Because i care about him more than i do the girls considering the shit the game puts him through.
Again, it's just Fridge Logic.
Outside of Sayori's death, the game doesn't put him through anything.

It does leave him trapped in school with a dead body if I remember correctly.
The game actually does. it's called digital lobotomy through coding and is essentially force to watch everyone he meets die horrible deaths while not being able to do anything about it.
MC is a victim.
He may not remember some of the horrors he's been through, but damn... To see his childhood friend that he cares and loves for hang from her bedroom ceiling; to know that the troublesome girl he knows suffers from an abusive father; to watch his closest other romantic interest stab herself multiple times in front of him... And to know that he was just a vehicle for a being beyond his power and find out that the girl he initially had a crush on never cared about him all... Only the person controlling him.
Man, that fucking sucks. I felt bad for MC in the beginning, but just looking back... Ugh, it hurts.
And yes, I'm fully aware fridge logic plays a huge role in it.
I get it, mang. Is truly horrifying.
But all this is reminding me of is why I choose to stay neutral on characters, you're going a just a bit too far.
Know what? You're right I am taking it a little too seriously. I need to calm down. Its just a game by the end of the day.
Yeah like randoness said is frige logic because MC look he have a mind and personality outside the game: he is child friend of sayori, he remenber stuff of her, sure is false but is real for him, specially is dialogue in the end when he is shock for sayori death.
And I will guess the fandom is hard on him because of being thick and annoying, which is a little by hipocrital because yuri and natsuki ARE mean as well, monika is....monika and saori turn no diferent when she have power.
MC feel like weakest part of the game.
"thick and annoying" he's really none of those. He's just not a cute girl and the community were mostly desperate for a scapegoat and since Monika was popular, they wanted to shift the blame to the socially inept otaku that's never dealt with something as heavy like depression.
As for yuri and the other's being mean, they're cure girls so of course they'll have more leeway. Not that i mind or anything since yuri is my favorite character.
MC's the most endearing part of the game for me. He just doesn't have tits.
He's definitely thick.
He's also dense, there's no arguing that.
Not really. Actually he is, but that doesn't mean he's a monster for it. He's just a socially inept guy with no social skills that never dealt with something as serious like what his friends are going through, of course somebody in his shoes with no hindsight or context behind the situation regarding sayori's depression are gonna fuck up royally.
I used to hate him back than to funnily enough.
That reminds me, this one guy from the r/ddlc sub got banned for spamming pro-dadsuki sentiments on older posts and he usually suggests dadsuki never abused Natsuki

He's not very bright, but then again, so are many teenagers.
