Ultimately, because this is from Chise's point of view and because she was young and half asleep, I think the only thing that can be said for certain is that we are missing a metric buttload information on the surrounding context.
I thought it looked more like a weasel, which means it could have been an Itachi Yōkai
and to quote the linked article:
I like how he decided that an eye transplantation was something insignificant enough to use as a test.
I had 4 episodes to catch up, and boy were they intense. ô.Ô Elias really done fucked up here. And Ruth too (though he didn't get the punch).
That flashback sure makes things more understandable… but more than that I absolutely loved how Chise confronted all of it. It's so exhilarating when you compare this to how she was in the early episodes.
Hopefully she'll get her left eye back…
Wouldn't be the first time. Brotherhood was timed so that the last episode aired a couple of weeks after the last manga chapter was released. And given the lead time that anime needs (relative to manga) it means that Arakawa had to have been working with the anime staff while she was completing the last few chapters.
Well, 44 just dropped, but we've not wrapped this arc up just yet. So, yeah, it's starting to look like the anime's gonna pull ahead.
Honestly I think they should have stopped at one cour. That ended at a perfect spot for a season, and this second half has just been rushed. Probably would have been better to wait a bit and do a two cour season when they had the material for it.
Yeah I noticed a drop in quality after episode 12, things seemed to get a lot more rushed and some important details from the manga. were apparently left out.
I was actually expecting the anime to stop at the arc where Chise rescues the dragon since that seemed to be what they were building up to the most, but it just kept going when maybe it would've been better to stop there.
That would've left a pretty big cliffhanger regarding Chise's arm but, y'know, it happens lol

It's something I never really understood in Anime. the rush to adapt mangas what are not over (Obviously not counting stuff where each arc is a self contained tale a la Jojo).
Like, I know it does happen in Western Media too (Harry Potter Films and A Game of Thrones being major examples), but it seems so much more prevalent in Anime.
Like, if you're so enamoured with a property to adapt it instead of make something original, wouldn't you want to have the whole story down?

I think there are a bunch of stuff that falls under the "obviously cut" category, especially those silent segments recently, but on the whole, I don't think those are necessary for understanding the story.
Check out my fanfiction!Final episode! That was… alright? I'm not sure what to say… There's nothing wrong with this ending, but it might be a little too… perfect. I don't know. I have this strange feeeling that I've already seen the first half of this episode before to boot.
But well, this is a sweet ending all in all. ^^ And a pretty great series with great characters and great visuals. And yet I'm here, thinking "Well… it's over, I guess?" Maybe I wasn't in the right mood or I'll have to rewatch the episode, I don't know.
And now I'm imagining a formal wedding ceremony…
Priest/Mayor: You may now kiss the bride.
Elias: ……
Priest: ……
Elias: …Sure…
