The year is 2110. Sixty years ago, mankind was brought to it's knees with the sudden arrival of the 'Aragami', monsters impervious to conventional weapons. which made them impossible to defeat and along with an intelligence that belied their bestial appearance and a desire to devour anything in their way, it was simply a matter of years before many cities were reduced to ruin while forcing mankind into a corner, desperate and facing the very real danger of being wiped out.

But even when all hope seemed lost, humanity found an answer. They created a weapon similar to what was pushing them to the brink, an Aragami in weapon form capable of defeating and devouring the 'Gods' with their wielders being named God Eaters.

...It was enough to spark the flame of hope once more as the counter-attack began, the start of the battle to reclaim Earth for humanity.

As time passed and both sides continue to evolve and become stronger, there has been at least one occasion where the scales of the conflict almost tipped completely in the Aragami's favor, with the Earth and all who dwell on it threatened to be eradicated in an apocalypse where few, if any would survive.

Despite a threat on such a scale occurring over thirty years ago, many are still on their guard. As while the world goes on, so too, does the Aragami threat.

And now, here you stand with God Arc in hand and armlet on your wrist as the newest member to the Chicago Branch, one of the few Fenrir Branches remaining in the West. Regardless of your reasons for joining, your duty is clear. To defend humanity and defeat those who threaten it.

Gods will fall. Humanity will rise.

To be honest, this is my first attempt at running an RP of my own, so I'm a little nervous on how it's going to go. At the moment it's more of a thread to determine interest, answering questions and possible sign-up topic if enough people want this to happen. If a God Eater topic/RP like this already exists, I apologize in advance.

Although before I start with the format of the character sheet, I guess I should make some statements for clarification. I'm probably not going to have characters from the actual games show up (hence jumping forward 50 years after God Eater 2), so while references to them and events may occur (hopefully without spoilers), it's going to be an original cast of players and supporting characters for the time being.

On that note, while the games took place in the Far East Branch in Japan, I haven't quite decided on where it will be taking place, but as mentioned above, it'll will likely be Chicago in the USA unless players would prefer it elsewhere.

As for the numbers I'm willing to handle, I'm not too confident, so, 4 minimum and a max of 8. If this turns out to garner a lot of interest, I'll try to up it to 12. Any more than that will be put on stand-by/the waiting list until a spot opens up.

The RP will try to keep in line with the setting and mechanics as best as it can while trying to make it work in this sort of format, so there's room for flexibility. If there's any questions you may have, feel free to ask and I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability.

Anyway, um, here's the Sign-Up sheet. You're welcome to submit something before I post the follow-up posts if you wish and make edits if necessary.

  • Name/Code Name: Feel free to use either.
  • Gender:
  • Age:
  • Birthday:
  • Appearance: Sort of self-explanatory, actually. A description or picture works fine.
  • God Arc Type/Generation: (Melee, Shield and/or Gun, along with 1st/2nd/3rd Generation): Note the 'and/or'. If you decide your character is only compatible with a First Gen/Old Type God Arc, it's limited to one with either a Melee & Shield form or a Gun Form.

To give a very basic summary on each of the 'standard' God Arc Melee, Gun & Shield parts, see below. (A more detailed description will be in the next post or so, along with possible additions, to prevent this turning into a giant wall of text. Or more than what it already is. >.< )

  • Short Blade: (basically equivalent to a Longsword), Long Blade: (think a zweihander, but a bit bigger), Buster Blade: (...Basically akin to a giant slab of iron the form of a sword, club or some other big crushing object), Boost Hammer: (A hammer specializing in crushing attacks with a boost/igntion engine installed in the weapon), Charge Spear: (A spear/polearm weapon that specializes in piercing attacks, range and can charge up energy to allow you to 'glide' through the air.) and Variant Scythe: (Sort of what it says on the tin, actually.)

  • Assault Gun, Sniper Gun, Shotgun are sort of self explainatory. Blast Gun is something akin to a rocket launcher. Again, more specific details next post.

  • Buckler (The smallest shield, but the quickest to bring up), Shield (Middle of the group, at least enough to cover yourself) and Tower (Practically brings up a miniature wall, enough to block and protect yourself and ally, but slow to deploy and lower.)

Now, while that may seem a bit limiting, firstly, for the time being, it's going to be for aesthetic/personal preference. And secondly, if you can think of a melee or gun part for a God Arc, feel free to suggest it and if it sounds good, I'll let it go through.

And while manufacturing God Arcs has somewhat increased, there's very little chance that there'd be more than one that'd be compatible with your character, Although there is one more alternative for a 'weapon'/God Arc choice, but...well, that will be covered in the next post and I'd probably only allow maybe two or three players at once to use it considering it's vastly different from a God Arc.

  • Blood Art/Power: Not At the moment, considering how varied this could be, this is simply here as a placeholder for the moment. I'll go into more detail in a follow-up post.

  • Personality: Um, at least two sentences, if at all possible.

  • Bio/Backstory: Okay, this might be a little hard to fill in. If you're familiar with God Eater and the games, I'm happy to have you write a bit of history about your character's exploits (well, within reason). Otherwise, you could describe your motivation as to why you chose to become a God Eater and life before it? Perhaps you transferred from another Branch? It's entirely up to you.

So, I may or may not have scoured the internet for a God Eater RP after finishing both games.

Super Interested.

EDIT: Oh, uh quick question, it says "one of each" for God Arc parts, but I think I might want to make an Old-Type character, would that be alright?

Funny you should mention that. I was going to mention when I got to describing the God Arcs in detail that Old-Type/Gen 1 God Arcs are still around, but those are usually for the ones who wouldn't be candidates for New-Type/Gen 2 God Arcs.

So, yeah, if you wanna go for it, you're quite welcome to. smile

Becoming A God Eater, Information on God Arcs: Close Range/Melee. (Part 1) Again, s-sorry if it turns wall-of-text again.

In order to even become a God Eater, the one wishing to apply undergoes a blood test. Formerly, this was a mandatory test for as a preventative measure to avoid the numbers of God Eaters stationed at the Branch from being dangerously low. With no-one capable of fighting off the threat, it would likely mean the end of the Branch and everyone in it.

While some would say the dangers of such a life are high, many see this as a risk worth taking. Some wish to fight the Aragami out of a sense of duty. Others, revenge. A few even see it as a lucrative venture as such a hazardous job pays remarkably well.

In either case, the test is to determine whether they're compatible with any of the God Arcs held in storage which is sorted from a priority list, going from the standard 2nd Generation Type God Arcs to the 1st Generation ones, which as slightly mentioned in the Opening Post, are essentially the first 'real' God Arcs back in the in 2060. Due to compatibility being low, they were designed in one of two modes, the Melee & Shield Form (and sometimes, not even the latter) or Gun Form, meaning that there was little versatility for an individual God Eater and teamwork between a unit, usually consisting of two Close Range fighters and two Long Ranged fighters to cover up the other's shortcomings.

If even THOSE God Arcs aren't a match, the results will be sent to another Branch to see if there's one in cold storage there, or give a recommendation to...well, that'll be in the next post.

When a match is found, however, there is one last step in the process. As the only method of dispatching an Aragami is the God Arc, weapon made from the same 'Oracle Cells' as one...a way for humans to wield them was safely was necessary, lest they were devoured by their own weapon. Thankfully, the Aragami provided a way by simply observing as while those 'cells' devoured everything, there were 'restrictions', things they wouldn't eat,

With further research, they managed to extract the Bias Factor, the substance that governed those 'rules'. By injecting it into the God Eater's bloodstream, along with the armlet being fused to their skin and by extension, nervous system, the Bias Factor allows them full control over their God Arc, along with making their body more resilient to attacks from Aragami. Not impervious, but enough that accidental contact and any possible injuries in battle aren't instantly fatal.

Okay, I suppose I should get to clarifying a bit more on the details of the weapons and a trait they all share, or at least when in Close Range/Melee Form.

  • Devour Mode: The main reason why a God Eater is referred to by that title. While standard attacks with the weapon will wear down the Aragami, keeping up the offensive or charging up a concentration of Oracle Cells will create a monstrous maw giving more range for the next attack and if it manages to actually connect, tear a large chunk out of the enemy which essentially causes their God Arc to temporarily power up while it's wielder experiences a similar sort of effect along with, provided they're wielding a Second Generation God Arc, a portion of the Aragami's power in the form of a 'bullet' that mimics one of their more notable attacks that can be fired back at the enemy when in Gun Form.

Now, for the actual Arcs themselves.

  • Short Blade: As mentioned before, for the most part, this is the smallest in terms of build and range, making it the lightest of Melee Parts. While it may be lacking in terms of raw damage in comparison to the rest, it's also faster to swing along with excelling at aerial combat, a very quick Devour Mode charge and gathers Oracle Cells more rapidly as well, meaning it synergies well with Sniper and Blast Gun Parts.

  • Long Blade: What many would consider the 'standard, middle of the road' God Arc in terms of performance. With more range than the Short Blade and easy to wield, aside from the technique/ability to use Impulse Edge, there's very little of note that makes the Long Blade stand out. On that note, Impulse Edge. Partially swapping from Melee to Gun Form, it allows you to fire a powerful blast, provided you have the Oracle Cells to spare.

(...At the moment, I'm indecisive on what version to use, the one where it's dependent on the Gun Form for the player's God Arc, with a close range blast for Shotgun, a piercing short-range laser for Sniper, Rapid Fire for Assault and a chain of explosions for Blast or the default option which is a focused, if very poor range laser blast.)

  • Buster Blade: The largest of all the melee God Arcs and by extension, the slowest. (Well, for the most part.) But with the raw power to reward the more cautious and tactical God Eaters knowing when to attack and defend, it's second to none...especially with it's abilities further emphasizing this fact. Between practically crushing Aragami or with some models, cutting through them with each swing, it's two abilities stand out.

    • The Parrying Upper mechanism quickly deploys the God Arc's shield to block most attacks before countering with a devastating upward swing, hence the name. The other ability is the charge crush, where the God Eater focuses most of their energy into the next strike. While this leaves them wide open, the entire weapon glows a bright red when charged with agitated Oracle Cells extending the Buster Blade's reach considerably along with dealing staggering amounts of damage IF the blow connects.

  • Boost Hammer: One of three Close Range God Arcs, along with the Charge Spear and Variant Scythe that originated from Europe and until 2071, remained there as very few, if any compatible matches were found outside of the Branches in that region. The Boost Hammer is difficult to wield with many remarking it shares some similarities with the Buster Blade. While it's certainly true that it's slow and highly impractical to use in the air, the fact it remains capable of delivering crushing blows and along with the Boost/Ignition Engine, means it's more mobile than the Buster Blade.

    • Boost/Ignition Engine: The main and stand out feature with three options. Upon activation, the oracle cells 'ignite', shifting the weapon's shape as the turbine becomes more distinct. In this state, the usual swings and movement of the God Eater are changed drastically, with their lighter attacks becoming a flail of rapid and propelled swings dealing far more damage, but with such speed and force, it drains the wielder's stamina rather quickly while their method of movement becomes a small boost forward following up with a power horizontal sweep that strikes in a bigger arc. while the final movement, labelled 'Boost Impact' causes the engine to gradually lift the God Eater off the ground, hammer raised before slamming it back down on the Aragami. Hit or miss, the 'Boost' Mode ends and the weapon returns to it's usual form.

I'll...post the Charge Spear, Variant Scythe and the Gun Type arcs later. Been writing all sorts of things non-stop and I'm a little worn out. I'm sorry for the delay with the data, but as before, if there's specific questions you wish me to answer now, I'm happy to try and help.

Melee God Arcs (Part 2) and Gun Types.

  • Charge Spear: As one might expect from the name, the Charge Spear is pole-arm rather than a type of blade making it specialize in piercing attacks rather than slashes. Regardless, many see it as another 'all-rounder' like the Long Blade along with having similar traits to both the Short and Buster Melee Types in terms with the speed and mobility, especially in the air, of the former and the ability to make the Oracle Cells in the weapon far more active and charged up to store up power for one swift strike, the Charge Glide like the latter.

Propelling the wielder and weapon forward at high speed either on the ground or in the air, they clip or pierce right through most Aragami in the way, making it handy for offense or simple mobility.

  • Variant Scythe: The last of the Melee God Arcs that were developed in the early 2070s, the Variant Scythe has somewhat of a reputation for having very few compatible wielders along with being difficult to use it to it's full potential. For the most part, it has a lack of range but strikes swiftly. The more difficult part is when it lives up to it's namesake as the weapon morphs into an extended blade of monstrous fangs akin to Devour Mode, allowing the user to cut large sweeping arcs with their God Arc which...has it's issues when trying to avoid hitting team-mates on the field.

    • Most simply choose to simply attempt to cleave an Aragami in two by swinging the extended scythe forwards, fangs tearing into it before retracting it back into it's normal mode, dealing even more damage in the process.

Now, um, before I move onto the Gun Parts for a God Arc, I should probably discuss the other alternative 'weapon' available for Close Combat. As I mentioned, it's not really something I'm going to encourage since it sort of goes against the idea and would be reserved for the sort of characters who wouldn't be able to fight like a normal God Eater would.

  • God Arc Soldier: During 2073, the project for a mechanized alternative to the God Eaters was green-lit and implimented during the following year. Humanoid in appearance, standing upright at about 7 meters tall with a Long/Buster Blade to match, the God Arc Soldier was intended as both an automated force capable of repelling and defeating Aragami, yet also designed to be manually piloted for those who were incompatible with the God Arcs available at the Branch.

    • While there were initial...issues with it's introduction, along with issues (some of which haven't been ironed out) such as being exceptionally sluggish and of questionable effectiveness against small hordes of Aragami or the bigger types when unmanned and controlled remotely, the value of them being a second line of defense if an incursion breaks into a town or settlement can't be understated.

    • Many of these issues disappear with a proper 'pilot' manning the Soldier, however. While they lack the 'benefits' a God Eater on foot would have, with mobility being somewhat lacking a, the fact they're more resilient to damage, obviously have more range with their large God Arcs and can be piloted by someone who isn't a God Eater or is incapable of fighting on the field despite being a compatible with a God Arc, like having a broken/missing leg, for example.

O-Okay, with that all said and done, there's the matter of the Gun Form parts to clarify.

  • Assault Gun: As you may expect from the name, an Assault Gun is sort of a ranged equivalent to the Long Blade. With more range than the shotgun (yet less than the Sniper Gun) and the fastest rapid rate of fire compared to it's alternatives, this is the sort of weapon for those with an itchy trigger finger and peppering the Aragami with constant bullets while being mobile. However, compared to the other Forms, it's damage is fairly lacking.

  • Sniper Gun: The polar opposite to the Assault and Shotgun, the Sniper Gun part has a slow rate of fire and require the God Eater to be stationary (or if they're daring enough, in mid air) to fire a shot. As a trade off however, it packs a far meaner punch with the velocity making the bullet hit it's target almost instantly and hurts all the more if it hits an Aragami's weak point. One other feature this particular Gun Arc has is the Stealth Field, making the user resonate it's arc, creating a small barrier of Oracle Cells that dull an Aragami's vision.

    • There are a few limitations, however. While the Stealth Field is enough to fool most Aragami, it won't be very effective if you're already in combat or opening fire on target as there's a slight disruption of the Oracle Cells keeping you concealed. meaning if other Aragami are in your vicinity, you're most likely to be spotted.

  • Shotgun are sort of self explanatory. Focusing on almost point blank range with it's power dropping off sharply the further the God Eater is away from their target, this 'limitation' isn't necessarily a bad thing as like the Assault type Gun Part, they're capable of firing while on the move making it easier to get into the ideal range or swapping back into Melee Form.

  • Blast Gun is something akin to a rocket launcher and a short ranged flamethrower, capable of firing long range blasts capable of hitting multiple targets or a short range blast that's quite handy at either stopping charging Aragami in their tracks, blasting through their defense or piercing through targets foolish enough to charge at a God Eater in a line.

As mentioned in the previous post, all 2nd Generation God Arcs are capable of firing 'Aragami Bullets' regardless of their Gun Type, either at the enemy or at an ally, effectively transferring it to them. Along with receiving the projectile, the allied target undergoes a similar 'Burst' or power up as if they'd used their Devour Mode on an Aragami. While not as potent, many teams try to take advantage of this fact.

And that's all for the types of God Arcs, both in Gun and Melee forms.

Hope you weren't expecting anything witty here. Maybe some day.

Well, it's nice of you to show interest, but, I didn't get enough people so the RP never got off the ground, sorry. I was hoping at least a minimum of four people showing interest but I guess all the wall-of-text posts might have scared people off. >.<

I'll have a lot more free-time on my hands in two weeks, so I'm going to tidy up the previous posts so hopefully they're concise and not so wordy, try and give more information on the setting for people not in know and see how that goes. So even if it doesn't get interest, if someone more capable than me wants to run a God Eater RP (perhaps when GE 3 actually comes out), they can just grab what they need here, I guess. smile

Hope you weren't expecting anything witty here. Maybe some day.
