Nightmare Fuel cleanup and maintenance

Go To

Now with a sandbox!

It appears that many Nightmare Fuel pages have problems, including:

1. Listing non-scary things that made the viewer feel slightly uncomfortable at worst.

2. Having spoiler tags on them (which is against the page's guidelines).

3. Listing Fridge Horror and fan theories.

And much more!

On a few occasions, people from outside the site's community have pointed out our overly lax usage of Nightmare Fuel to make fun of us, meaning that it can legitimately harm our reputation to let this go unchecked.

The TRS thread meant for redefining Nightmare Fuel started to become a place for cleaning up Nightmare Fuel pages in general, so we may as well move these discussions to Long Term Projects where they belong.

Here are the guidelines to determine whether something is Nightmare Fuel or not.

    Nightmare Fuel rules
  • This is a page whose name is intended to be taken more literally than most. It's not enough for material to be scary; to truly qualify, it has to be frightening enough to legitimately unnerve/disturb the viewer, with actually being nightmare-inducing as the ultimate endpoint.
    • Good signs that something IS Nightmare Fuel include if:
      • It left you feeling shaken even after the credits had rolled, you turned the last page, or are otherwise done with the work.
      • You have a hard time falling asleep if you think about it at night, or have a literal nightmare about it.
      • You dread that episode, scene, level, chapter, or song during re-watches, and consider skipping it.
    • With that said, don't add something just because it happens to be your personal phobia. For example, spiders can be scary and many people have arachnophobia, but just because a spider happens to be in the work, it does not make a Nightmare Fuel entry. It needs to reasonably be scary to someone without the phobia.
    • Don't confuse tension with fear. If the hero is in trouble, but you know he'll make it out okay at the end, it's probably not Nightmare Fuel unless the threat is especially disturbing.
  • Explain WHY the entry scared you. Try to convey your sense of fear to your readers. Avoid putting up Zero-Context Examples.
    • Remember that Weblinks Are Not Examples, and neither are quotes on their own. You should explain the horror in your own words, rather than rely on others to do so.
  • Don't add things that might have scared someone. If it didn't scare you, and you don't personally know anyone else who was scared, you shouldn't be adding it to Nightmare Fuel.
  • Nightmare Fuel should stick to you even after you're done with the work.
    • If something is initially presented as scary but turns out to be harmless, it's most likely not Nightmare Fuel since The Reveal makes the scariness vanish.
    • Jump Scares are a good source of Nightmare Fuel, but not all of them automatically qualify: being startled is not the same as being scared.
  • Hypotheticals are not Nightmare Fuel:
    • Remember that Trailers Always Lie: a scene that is presented as scary in the trailer could very well turn out to be inoffensive in the finished work. Only add examples from unreleased works if they were especially terrifying in the previews.
    • Fan theories do not belong on the Nightmare Fuel page under any circumstance. No matter how much evidence they have to support them, don't add them until they've been officially confirmed. In the meanwhile, take them to Wild Mass Guessing.
    • Fridge Horror goes on the Fridge page, not Nightmare Fuel. Don't add it unless it's Ascended Fridge Horror.
  • Keep in mind the work's intended audience when considering whether or not something is Nightmare Fuel.
    • If something is normal or expected in the genre, it does not automatically qualify. Violence in a Fighting Series or gore in a horror movie must be especially disturbing or gruesome by the work's standards to be Nightmare Fuel.
    • Remember that Kids Shouldn't Watch Horror Films. If a work is rated PG-13 or higher but would only be scary to young children, it's not Nightmare Fuel.
    • The standards on what qualifies as Nightmare Fuel are especially stringent on works aimed at children and pre-teens: kids have hyperactive imaginations, so even something benign can give them nightmares.
  • Spoiler tags do not belong on Nightmare Fuel pages. Much of what scares us comes from inherently spoilery stuff such as death and the unknown, so finding spoilers on these pages should be expected.
  • Nightmare Fuel is an Audience Reaction, so it needs to be scary for the audience. Describing how the characters react to something scary isn't needed. Just because something scares them, that doesn't mean it scares us as well.
  • Nightmare Fuel is a No Real Life Examples, Please! page. Meta-examples involving the actors, production, or behind-the-scenes incidents are not allowed.

Guidelines when proposing cleanup of a page:

  • Some rules are pretty objective. If you see a Zero-Context Example, Fridge Horror, Real Life example, speculation, In-Universe reaction that isn't scary to the viewers, examples that explicitly describe themselves as not being very scary (including "mildly creepy", "somewhat unnerving", and other synonymous phrases), or examples that are just scene summaries without going into detail about why it's so scary, you can (and should) remove them immediately without coming here to ask.
  • You should also strip all spoiler tags from the page. Itty Bitty Wiki Tools has a tool for that, but it can cause problems, so if you use it be sure to preview the page and thoroughly look it over.
  • Once you've fixed the objective issues with the page, bring it here so we can look at the more subjective problems, such as examples that may not be scary enough to qualify. If a consensus is reached that a certain entry does not qualify, it can be removed.

I'm not familiar with Omori at all, but the bunny entry looks like an exaggeration, unless the bunny murder mission is really graphic and brutal. The idea of a leaf that hates bunnies sounds way too ridiculous to be scary.

In all fairness, I went through the Jimmy Neutron page ages ago. It might've collected new garbage since then, but everything I kept was agreed on by this very thread.

[up][up]The bunny murder mission isn't even graphic. They're regular enemies. It's the same as someone telling Mario to go kill a bunch of Goombas for a reward. In Omori, enemies turn grayscale and fall off the screen when defeated. I'm cutting it.

The Marshenmallow NightmareFuel.RWBY entries have been added to the page, but it looks like the darkpixie entry still needs to be added.

Unfortunately, marshenmallow didn't format the Volume 8 entries as per the layout of the rest of the page, so I'm going to request a layout change of the Volume 8 entries on the Edit Locked pages, if that's okay with everyone.

Shall I add darkpixie's entry into the list when I ask for the layout change?

Looking at the edit history, Roomy LEGO 101 added the images for seasons 2 and 11, while Jonty Master added the images for seasons 1, 3, 4, 7, and 8 (they also added an image for Season 9, then they removed it).

Since there's a comment at the top of the page that tells editors to not add individual images to folders, this qualifies as ignoring a commented out warning.

[up][up] We'd have to start another Image Pickin' thread to replace the "Is there something wrong with me?" image that is currently the main page image. For now, though, I've messaged both tropers to remind them to not add multiple images to pages, and the extra images have been removed.

I've been wanting to change that Spongebob image since day 1. In my opinion it's not just the worst image in the show's history (even the horsefly is better) but the nastiest one on this site. I'm a big horror movie fan by the way and normally have a very strong stomach. I've already suggested Puffy Fluffy or the ending to 'Squidbob Tentlepants'. However I think the current image on the Nausea Fuel page for Spongebob should stay because it gets the point across well and is disgusting enough. Then again, this isn't the only way Spongebob's Nightmare Fuel page has been problematic in the past ...

I've noticed Kingdom Hearts III also has issues with images in half the folders and may need some maintence. In this case, most the images are pretty tame and unnecessary. The main image should stay (it's probably the creepiest of the bunch) but the rest should be removed. The page also has issues with Fridge Horror, speculation, scene summery, and more.

[up]"In my opinion it's not just the worst image in the show's history (even the horsefly is better)"

I-I'm sorry, just... no. Maybe it's just my entomophobia talking, but the horsefly is 1,000x worse. If I were strapped to a chair and had to look at the horsefly or "Is there something wrong with me?" for five hours, I'd pick the latter.

Regardless, I'm in favor of scrapping the individual season images, and never bringing them back. Ever.

Also, I'll tweak the Jimmy Neutron page and present it back here.

I've found another page that's desperate for a cleaning, South Park. Strangely enough, there's a habit of listing things that are somewhat shocking (it feels like half the injuries and deaths are on there) and/or uncomfortable. There's also quite a bit of Fridge Horror and Jerkass actions listed. This is the pioneer of the Animated Shock Comedy after all. We can't treat it like most kid's shows. Besides the misuse has lead to a very bloated page.

[up] Good news, we just made a cleanup for South Park, so that can help.

However, I can look over the page here first, starting with the "general" folder which shouldn't even exist.

    General
  • Cartman is generally frightening when he shows his psychotic and extremely sadistic behavior. General example, doesn't apply to everything.
    • In perhaps the most infamous example, "Scott Tenorman Must Die" (season 5), Cartman ground up a kid's parents into chili and tricked the kid into eating them. And, to top it off, sang "Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah! I made you eat your parents!" Scary reveal, as it's his Moral Event Horizon, but should be grouped under Season 5.
    • That's not to mention that Scott liked the chili before finding out what was in it. Natter.
    • "Do you like it? Do you like it, Scott? I call it: Mr. and Mrs. Tenorman chili." The look on his face seals the deal. Natter.
"Let me taste your tears Scott. Mmmm, your tears are so yummy and sweet!"
    • Stan and Kyle put it best... Natter.
Kyle: Dude, I think it might be best for us to never piss off Cartman again.
      Stan: Good call.
    • A lot of Cartman's angry expressions throughout this episode are a little unsettling. Not scary given the art style.
    • While it gets overshadowed, Scott's plan to feed Cartman chili containing the pubic hair of every kid in town is pretty disgusting too. Nausea Fuel, not Nightmare Fuel.
    • This is more of a Fridge Horror, but certainly qualifies. While Cartman almost always proves somewhat immoral and sociopathic behavior, is somewhat frightening if you think how he will be when he grows up and becomes an adult. If he has made one of the most cruelest acts in a TV series ever done in "Scott Tenorman Must Die", imagine how inhumane he could be as an adult. Though if you've seen the end of "My Future Self 'n' Me", you'll know you have nothing to worry about. It's a self-admitted Fridge Horror and contradicts itself.
    • In "T.M.I." (season 15), in response to an anger management counselor calling him "fat", he whips out his phone, seemingly nonplussed by the insults.
Counselor: Huh. Well, I just don't see it, Ms. Cartman. Your son doesn't seem to be triggered by anger at all. In fact, I'd say he's one of the more even-tempered children I've ever seen.
      • The counselor is then interrupted by a phone call from his wife, which is then cut off when she shoots herself due to a "fourteen year old girl" and "an official police record", brought to light by a "Mitch Connor". After this, the counselor stares at Cartman in dawning realization, and Cartman just fixes him with a Death Glare and says "I'm not fat. I'm big-boned." It is kind of a frightening moment, psychologically speaking, but belongs in the season folder.
    • Several episodes have shown how easy it is for someone like Cartman to legally purchase a gun. Fridge Horror.
  • The first season used to have ear-splitting synth music play at dramatic moments. Not scary.
  • Stephen and Linda Stotch (Butters' parents) themselves are pretty scary now that you think about it. On the outside, they look like your average, normal, everyday citizens but on the inside, they're abusive parents who physically and emotionally abuse their own child. There's a reason why lots of fans don't like them. Fridge Horror, most of their behavior falls into Hilariously Abusive Childhood and isn't graphic, just sad at worst.
  • Ms. Crabtree's character design and abrasive personality sometimes crossed into this territory for the first three seasons, to the point it even, in-universe, scared the living bejesus out of characters like Mr. Garrison, Chef and even Cartman! She's a bit creepy and her yelling can be quite sudden, and I could see her scaring a kid, but this show isn't for kids.
  • Kenny's deaths. Sure, it is played as a running gag, but there are quite a few of them not for the faint of heart. "Mysterion Rises" makes it even worse combining Nightmare Fuel with Fridge Horror, Kenny states that he is unable to die: Kenny's death vary in tone. Some are very creepy while others are quite tame. This is Ascended Fridge Horror but I'm not sure if it stays.
  • Much of Shelly's over-the-top abuse of Stan, like electrocuting him with a TV, running over his face with a lawnmower, burning and dousing him (though that was a Deleted Scene), and crushing him (and Kyle) with a piano. DO NOT piss her off. Maybe but it's mostly played for comedy and not that graphic.
    • Also, when Cartman once badmouthed her behind her back, he reacted with absolute fear when she addressed him. Not to mention she's based on Trey's sister (though the worst she did to Trey was push him down some stairs, lock him out of the house, and punch him in the face. Compared to what Shelly does to Stan on the show, it's nothing). Not that scary, nattery
  • The Woodland Christmas Critters?
  • God! Yes, God is on here. He may be one of the most terrifying things to come on the show. He is shown to be a short-legged squirrel, elephant, cat, hippopotamus tetra-morph with an extendable, reptile-like tongue. And his voice! Oh god, his fucking voice is scary! ...Really? He's just weird looking, and I think he looks chill and funny. His voice is a very standard deep "God" voice and I find it calming personally.
    • However, he does say some pretty funny things, such as explaining that Stan will never get a period. Natter, contradicts the entry.
  • Tweek Tweak has on multiple occasions offered other kids coffee as a host, which they tend to refuse. You know what's in his coffee? Meth. It's not entirely clear whether Tweak has no idea or thinks what's sprinkled in there is a harmless special ingredient, but can you imagine kids drinking that coffee? You know, kids who haven't built up Tweek's special tolerance. Fridge Horror
  • The original version of the theme song that aired during the initial airing of the pilot. The music just sounds wrong when slowed down that much. Not helping is the boys' singing, which is completely void of emotion. Long-time fans may recognize that down-tempo version as being the ending credits theme, but the "singing" does make it sound a lot creepier. It's a little unsettling but that's probably because we're used to the up-tempo version. Definitely not NF.
  • The Halloween intro used in early seasons. From the scream that kicks the intro off to things such as the undead Les Claypool, just... brrr... The simplistic animation makes it hard to believe this would scare an adult who watches South Park.
  • “Shots” has Cartman being afraid to get his vaccines since he thinks they’ll make him disabled. He runs out of the doctor’s office bare naked and squealing like a pig. The kids at school warn him about how dangerous not getting his shots is, and the adults try to vaccinate him in his sleep. He escapes and ends up in a rodeo. As his mother tries to save him, she is vaccinated in the leg. Later, at the doctor’s office, she is seen painting with an eerily calm expression, ending with Cartman shouting “Nooo...”. It's a joke (a Brick Joke about Cartman's "vaccines make you artistic" malaproper), and not that creepy.
    • It has already been proven that vaccines do not cause autism. Also, Cartman is only 10 years old. Without vaccines, he could die from something like whooping cough or scarlet fever. Fridge Horror sets in when he shoots out a “snot web” during lunch, so you can tell he’s already getting sick. Arguing on the page about irrelevant and controversial matters. Also, Fridge Horror. Cartman's sneeze is more Nausea Fuel.
  • “Cherokee Hair Tampons” has Kyle nearly dying from kidney disease. If you didn’t already think Sheila was a bad mother, you will now. Also there’s the fact that Cartman was about to have his kidney sawed out in his sleep. Not enough detail on how it's a scary moment.

    Seasons 1- 3
Season 1
  • In "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe", the "dream" that Cartman insists he had about aliens probing him doubles as an in-universe example. Characters finding their situation scary is not "in universe" NF.
  • The Grim Reaper chasing the boys in "Death". ZCE, and it was more funny than anything.
    • Grampa Marsh's grandfather. ZCE
  • "Pinkeye":
    • Whenever Kenny attacks someone, for a split second you can see his teeth. It's jarring as hell. Maybe?
    • When zombie Clyde attacks Bebe while she's bobbing for apples, almost drowning her while he does so. It's disturbingly realistic. Maybe.
    • When the boys are cornered by the zombies, Chef is revealed to have been turned offscreen. Not enough detail to be scary.
      • He does get an awesome Thriller-esque musical number later on, however. Natter, contradicts the entry.
    • In the end when all the zombies revert back to their normal selves, we see a TON of dead bodies scattered around the field. Maybe. Probably not enough detail on what's scary.
    • Very likely the dead bodies were those people that were originally buried when the episode began. Natter.
  • Very narrowly averted with "Starvin' Marvin". The episode was originally going to end with Sally Struthers being killed and the Ethiopians feasting on the fat from her belly for Thanksgiving. However, Comedy Central Could not allow the episode to end in such a way. So it ended with Struthers being tied up as the Ethiopians feasted on Dr. Mephesto's cloned turkeys. Probably doesn't count as it didn't actually happen.
  • In "Tom's Rhinoplasty", Wendy sends Miss Ellen into the fucking Sun at the very end! Also Wendy getting Miss Ellen kidnapped by Iraqis and sent into the sun was solely because Stan developed a crush on her? It's so over the top and not graphic, I struggle to believe someone would find it really scary.
    Wendy: Bye-bye, Miss Ellen.
    Kyle: Wendy, you didn't!
Wendy: I warned her. (her eyes change) Don't. Fuck. With Wendy. TESTABURGER!

Season 2

  • Stan's hellish vision of Kyle's parents in "Ike's Wee Wee". Keep. It's got some deranged imagery and it was creepy for the time.
"Let us cut off your pee-pee, Stan!"
  • Seeing the remains of the people everybody was forced to kill and eat in "Cartman's Mom Is Still A Dirty Slut" could definitely give some kids nightmares. Maybe. But this show isn't intended for kids. Do we include Periphery Demographic stuff?
  • Another early example can be seen in "City on the Edge of Forever", in which the children are trapped on a school bus teetering off the edge of a cliff. One of the students, an actual Red Shirt, decided to take his chances outside even after Mrs. Crabtree said there was a big, black, monster outside. He seems alright at first but then the monster attacks, grabbing him and pulling him into a tree. As the students watch on to learn of his fate, WHAM! His eviscerated body hits the window. The children think they're safe until the monster rips the top off the bus and steals Kenny. Yes, it was All Just a Dream from Stan but the fact remains. That monster was something that comes from the bowels of your worst nightmares. Maybe? It's still a simple design but pretty creepy for the show's standards.
  • Seeing the remains of Tom and Mary at the end of "Cow Days". Granted, they were just extras with little significance to the episode's plot. But still... Maybe.
  • Sharon's Sanity Slippage and the satanic pets in "Spookyfish". Not enough detail.
    • The fish itself. It doesn't swim, just stays in one spot staring at Stan with a creepy grin, sends creepy messages to Stan and can kill people (particularly Flo Kimble and, of course, Kenny) in gruesome ways. Then again, the pet shop was built on top of an ancient burial ground where the corpses were violated, so what did you expect? Maybe?
    • Evil!Stan and Evil!Kyle coming to take the oddly benevolent Evil!Cartman home. Later, it shows that they got the wrong Cartman. Not enough detail.
    • It’s played for laughs, but the Barbara Streisand jumpscare where her face fills up the screen while a scream plays can make a few viewers startled. Maybe, if it's jarring enough.
    • Evil!Cartman kindly pets Mr. Kitty. Suddenly, the real Cartman screams “NO, KITTY! THAT’S A BAD KITTY!”. It counts as a jumpscare if you weren’t expecting it. Evil!Cartman’s reaction is certainly understandable. Doesn't sound that scary.

Season 3

  • Veronica's transformation in "The Succubus". It comes out of nowhere and causes the entire plot to turn from a "bros before hos" storyline into a quest to save Chef's very soul. It is quite possible that Archie Comics characters Jughead and Veronica are the inspiration for this episode. Maybe, if given more detail, but what do Jughead and Veronica have to do with this? They're not scary.
  • "Tweek vs. Craig":
    • This episode is notable for shop teacher Mr. Adler reliving the stress of his fiance's death, which is pictured in live-action elements. Hmm. I could keep it, since it's silly but I could see the live action plane crash and drowning being really creepy.
    • Mr. Adler does try to kill himself by laying on a sawbelt, but the fight between Tweek and Craig, which the boys have been trying to promote, spills into the shop class and kills Kenny in a pile of rusty nails. Pretty wince-inducing death for Kenny, so I could keep it.
  • "Sexual Harassment Panda" is an exercise in stupidity at best. Let us count the ways. Stupidity isn't nightmare fuel. This isn't a great start.
    • First, the title character tells kids that they should sue one another in court in order to get rid of sexual harassment. And this is after five hours of showing the children ways to commit sexual harassment. Not scary.
    • The first case just happens to be Cartman vs Stan and the school with Kyle's Dad, Gerald representing Cartman for Stan calling him an ass-sucker. Cartman ends up winning and taking half of Stan's belongings. Still not scary.
    • However, things quickly spiral out of control with the lawsuits piling up, the Broflovskis getting richer, and the school system getting poorer to the point that the students have no desks and Mr. Garrison has to write on the chalkboard with a rusty nail. Okay so this is a plot summary, not a NF entry. Great.
    • Eventually the case of Everybody vs Everybody is heard. This happens to take the issue to the extreme which is SOP for the series. Okay, and what about it? None of this is scary!
    • Even the way Kenny is killed is surreal as he holds a magnet which is pulled into a fan that then chops him into many bloody pieces. Keep.
    • Sexual Harassment Panda’s theme song can be a little unsettling, since it’s sung in a muffled voice, as if sung by someone wearing a very thick mask. It's really not scary.
    • Mr. Morse, the actor who plays Sexual Harassment Panda, is so deeply into character that he barely responds to his real name and thinks he IS a panda. While Tuong Lu Kim aka Dr. Janus is played for laughs, this situation comes off as a little disturbing. Hmmm, leaning against it.
  • "In "World Wide Recorder Concert", a literal "brown note" causes the person who made the note to crap their pants. Our four boys intend to get this music revision to the New Yorkers that have been bullying them the entire episode. This attempt at changing the music ends up affecting everyone as the organizer thinks the music has been changed yet again, and as a result, the entire world craps their pants when the "brown note" is played by four million children. More Nausea Fuel than anything.

    Seasons 4- 6

Season 4

  • "Cartman's Silly Hate Crime 2000": This episode is notable for the fact that all crimes are hate crimes and the fact that Cartman can sneak Disneyland into juvenile hall by using his anus. The first part's not nightmare fuel and the second part's not really framed in a scary way.
  • "Cartman Joins NAMBLA": Cartman decides he wants to find some more mature friends and joins a chat room where everyone is an adult male. Yep, Cartman joins a chat room full of pedophiles. Worse, Stan and Kyle decide they want to appear more mature and also become friends with a couple of creeps. At the meeting of organisation that they're all members of, it's revealed that Butters has also been groomed into being "friends" with one of the pedos. After that we learn that even the very handicapped Timmy was preyed upon. Not only that but when his groomer describes him as being "sexy, sassy and full of spunk" Timmy actually shows discomfort. This is the first time Timmy showed any sign of self awareness so you can really tell what a creepy situation it is. It is creepy, but kind of Fridge Horror-y.
  • "Trapper Keeper": On one hand, it's an awesome episode with a cool homage to AKIRA (among other sci-fi classics). On the other, it has an homage to Akira. And then the B-plot is about Rosie O'Donnell... Not enough context, relies on Fan Myopia, but vaguely remembering the gross transformation sequence, I think it counts. Not enough context on the Rosie part though.
  • In "Helen Keller: The Musical", Cartman's blindfolded and has headphones put over his ears in an attempt to understand how it'd feel to be Helen Keller to get inspiration for lyrics, every time he closes his eyes, he sees horrible stuff, like a body being opened up, a rotting corpse, war, an atomic bomb going off, a rat eating a dead rat, a man on fire, a mime and other stuff. Cartman mentions that he sees that everytime he closes his eyes. What makes this scene even worse is the fact that all the aforementioned footage is shown in live-action.
  • In "Fat Camp", the manatee dissection scene. They use actual photographs of various muscular structures. Then the ridiculous amount of peer pressure Kenny receives regarding the manatee spleen. First, Stan and Kyle make him dissect, then the other kids get him $41 to eat manatee spleen, then an additional $19 to eat the regurgitated spleen. This leads to Kenny's rise to fame as a gross out stuntman. The whole thing is really frightening because it all started with his friends egging him on. Maybe, but it's mostly Nausea Fuel.

Season 5

  • People vomiting up their intestines in "It Hits the Fan". Maybe?
    • The entire episode can be seen as a message to not blindly follow Television. Practically all of New York is in Times Square to watch the HBC series "Cop Drama", which kicks off the entire mess in the episode. In addition, the network has a night of a million shits which is saying the "S" word live a million times. A lizard-like monster attacks everybody attending the live performance of The Drew Carey Show. If the monster is truly scary, then I'd keep it. Everything preceding it isn't scary, though.
  • The pedophilic scout master replacing Big Gay Al in "Cripple Fight" is played surprisingly seriously in general, but this moment when the boys try to tell Big Gay Al himself about it is particularly dark: Maybe?
Cartman: But you have to come back! We hate our new scoutmaster!
    Big Gay Al: Really? Why?
    Butters: We can't tell you.
    Big Gay Al: Why not?
    Butters: (mimes beating someone)
(Big Gay Al is visibly horrified)
  • When Butters' mom learns about her husband’s horrible secret in "Butters' Very Own Episode", she starts to paint the walls while slowly losing sanity. She even goes far to try to kill her own son! She does not even get arrested! Holy shit! Could cut down on the horrified tone, but that part of the episode is very creepy, so I think it could count.

Season 6

  • The ending of "Asspen" is also a little... troubling, to say the least. To wit, the scene where the nerdy girl lifts up her shirt to reveal two grotesque creatures in place of her breasts, and it appears out of nowhere as well without any indication that it's going to happen. You know what, keep. Those breast-creatures are really creepy and weird.
  • In "Freak Strike", when the freaks tell Butters about the time they killed a freak impostor ("Lobster-boy", who actually was just a normal lobster) by boiling him alive, and we see Butter's imagination of the lobster cooking in a scalding metal cauldron, complete with eerie piano music and the sound of the lobster crying in slow agony. Sounds valid to me.
  • Wendy getting breast implants in "Bebe's Boobs Destroy Society". Luckily, syndication removes the scene. Not enough context.
  • The entirety of "The Death Camp of Tolerance". ZCE.

I can't do it all right now but here's a start.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

You know what the scariest things NightmareFuel.Gravity Falls has? Fridge Horror! Natter! Possible over-exaggeration! In fact, all of those make the scariest moments in the show itself look tame.

I'm a big Gravity Falls fan but have been want to bring up Gravity Falls for a while now. The page itself is full of Fridge Horror, Natter, exaggerations, and is kinda bloated (the show has plenty of genuinely scary moments though). Despite the last episode airing in early 2016, there's still a lot of outdated speculation (a big vice). The page got mentioned a while ago but there wasn't any progress.

I'd start by giving Bill Cipher his own folder. Despite the Fridge Horror he invites, he does provide a decent amount of the show's horror. While sometimes funny, a lot of his chaotic actions (often involving Body Horror and Surreal Horror) and cryptic dialogue (with signs of fourth wall awareness) is widely considered creepy. I think this would at least make the page more managable.

You'd think there's enough actual horror in Gravity Falls that you don't need to make stuff up.

Optimism is a duty.

Found this example on Jupiter's Legacy:

  • Nightmare Fuel: The ending of issue 3 where Brandon has burned off Utopian's face.
