"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."With the eyewall replacement cycle complete and Cuba mainland still at some distance, a return to Cat 5 was always possible.
Jose is also close to Cat 5 and Katia is apparently landing now.

: Mother Of All Traffic Jams?
So Barbuda has been stripped of most of its foliage by Irma
In other news, RIP sleeping in. I got woken up at about 5:50 AM by an emergency alert on my phone telling me that there was a hurricane warning. THANKS GUYS I HAD NO IDEA. Oh well, I sorta wanted to get up early anyway — I was able to get everything I wanted/needed in terms of hurricane prep except another loaf of bread (seriously, that was the only thing that was out at the store) and I had been planning to make another run this morning to see if they'd gotten any more.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. They say in the French newspapers that the French Central Agency for Emergency Reimbursements had given a first estimation of the destruction at about 1,2 Billion €uros, that is to say around 1,44 Billion US-Dollars for the two islands of Saint-Martin and Saint-Bart combined.
This price includes the wreckage of individual houses, motor vehicles and businesses including for their net losses due to inactivity in the wake of the hurricane.
They say it's the costliest natural event in France in 35 years, and of equivalent magnitude to the Megastorm of 1987, the storms of late December 1999, and Thunderstorm Xynthia in 2010, which all happened in metropolitan France.
It's the worst natural event EVER in the French oversea collectivities.

Liberty, equity, autonomy ! Proud neoliberal cuckservative whore ! Now for sale !Unfortunately, no : at least more than ¾ of the population in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthelemy have not been evacuated out of the islands because the timeline was too tight .
From the point when Irma left the islands and things where safe, to the point they have been able to begin the work on ports and airports because everything has been turned into rubble and nothing was safe anymore in the [air]ports, in order to evacuate those folks, to the point when Hurricane José arrived and forced to cut links again ... It was far too short, too tight . They haven't even been able to get all of the SICKS out , so don't dream about those who were not .
Liberty, equity, autonomy ! Proud neoliberal cuckservative whore ! Now for sale !Given that one of the islands is already within its winds, there's little chance of the prediction being wrong.
To be slightly more positive, at least it's generally out at see.
Well, seems like Irma currently is only about Cat 3 according to the NHC at least but is pulling away from Cuba and will re-strengthen to Cat 4 most likely, or even Cat 5. Also, as we've seen it has moved farther west than expected and will most likely landfall on Florida's western side, Tampa Bay area or farther south. I've heard that about 1/4 of Florida's population is evacuating, is that right?
Jose has reached the Antilles, still at Cat 4. Passing north of Barbuda. Speaking of Barbuda, so far only Venezuela of all places
is providing substantive assistance. Afterwards Jose will run towards Florida, weaken and recurve. It is possible but unlikely unless atmospheric conditions change drastically that Jose will instead make landfall there.
A weather system is developing south of the Cape Verde islands. There is some possibility that it will become a tropical storm next week.

Okay, that's good to hear. Not anything against Tampa or Orlando, but I have friends in Miami.
It's been fun.
