Currently the trope is written as a real life trivia trope however fictional dye jobs are included as well which are important to the character and a real trope.

Its modus operandi for both Gyaru Girl and Japanese Delinquent to do this although the former does not need to be blonde, pink is pretty normal as well.

Examples like

  • Kirino from Oreimo's iconic orange hair is dyed as part of her work as a trendy model. Her natural hair color is seen in flashbacks and pictures, dark brown like her brother.
  • Setsuna from Mahou Sensei Negima! is albino but dyes her hair black and wears black contacts out of shame and fear of continued racism.
  • Kanji in Persona 4 dyes his hair blonde for his Japanese Delinquent look, once he is past that phase he changes his hair color back to its original brown.
  • Ryuji in Persona 5 is doing the same thing as Kanji although we have yet to find out his original hair color.
  • Durarara: Shizuo dyes his hair from black to blond to differentiate himself from his brother.
  • I Jedi : Corran dyes his hair grey when he goes undercover trying to find his wife, not knowing how it works his first attempt turned it a spectrum of green to gray for some laughs at his expense.
  • Mimi of Digimon Adventure went through a kid friendly Gyaru Girl phase and dyes her hair pink and later blonde while in America then back to brown later.

It should be a quick and dirty split with Dye Hard the trivia trope and Important Dye Job. Latter with redirects such as Trendy Dye Job and Rebel Dye Job.
