That bit about Rockstar removing "Cops and Robbers" styled content - in a game that's largely been about said "Cops and and Robbers" content - doesn't bode well.
People play GTA to behave like a raging psychopathic asshole with an utter disregard for the law. Trying to clean that up is only going to get Rockstar assailed possibly from BOTH sides of the political spectrum, because I highly doubt the likes of Polygon and ilk are going to appreciate the game's story and setting no matter what direction Rockstar takes, and more conservative circles will deride it for trying to be too politically correct.
Oh, I'm sure you'll be able to shoot plenty of cops. I think the part they had issues with is the player playing a cop in such a mode.
The same conservatives who are criminalizing abortion? I say fuck em. Who needs to pander to the likes of them?

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesThe dropping of a cops and robbers mechanic wasn't a GTAVI thing, it was a mode they were going to add to GTAV Online, but canceled after all the IRL controversies started happening.
I think having a female protagonist presents a good opportunity, but they gotta be careful how they do it. Don't make a bunch of gendered winks and nudges to the audience, just let her be a badass like all the other protagonists have been.
The thing that confuses me is the "no more punching down humor." Well, how do you define punching down humor? Where is the line drawn? That seems like a very difficult line to walk.
Speaking as a person of color, admittedly not for all but as one, there's quite a few things wrong with having a Latina protagonist as a reaction to poor work culture, and announcing it as part of a series of restructuring decisions with the expectation of immediate approval, yes.
My assumption is its done to appeal to me in a very superficial way, and its going to be grouped with a lot of other decisions I disagree with that will make the overall experience lesser for me. And that's unfortunate because being a woman in a GTA game would be a fun perspective flip.
But if they had just picked another white male, you would have complained about that instead. With such an argument, you can basically never be pleased, because such a move would always be seen as politically motivated.
I mean, we've already had two black male leads. A black female lead doesn't seem like such a leap to me.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest times...would the problem somehow be more valid if I didn't complain when it was a white or black protagnist?
Argument being that sticking a person of color protagonist while changing a lot of other fundamebrals of Grand Theft Auto is a bad decision that makes me uncomfortable.
No, I am extremely easy to please. Hypothetically if these two pitches were made
Ah neat. Never played as a female gangbanger before. Im finna to buya rocket launcher and blow up some cop cars. Lol Lamar is such a politically incorrect depiction of a minority yet extremely memorable for it.
...yeah I don't know if I want this.

Latin X is considered offensive by a vast majority of Latin American speakers because its seen as Cultural Imperialism. Just an FYI.
Latine is the preffered term.

Watch SymphogearLeak time, and this one is genuine, as confirmed by Rockstar:

Old convo but I get the feeling that their point is more that it feels like an insincere corporate-mandated face-saving hard swerve away from the things that gave the series a memorable identity, crass and insensitive as they were. Not saying I fully agree but not saying I disagree either. And yeah "Latinx" is somewhat contentious in actual Hispanic communities since its a term invented by non-spanish-speaking white people that violates the grammar conventions of the language.
Anyway, it's basically confirmed at this point that the story is about an Outlaw Couple consisting of a white redneck and a latina girl; Jason and Lucia. It's set in Vice City and the surrounding countryside; they start as trailer trash and the story is likely about them trying to escape poverty, rubbing shoulders with "higher-class" crooks in the process.
As for gameplay advancements, car interiors are planned to be a lot more detailed with more moving parts, the weapon carrying system from RDR2 is returning with some changes, cash pickups/inventory might be a touch more in-depth (you have to carry stolen cash in a bag of some sort and deposit it somehow before you can spend it), and pedestrians/cops may be getting some AI improvements to make them behave more realistically and dynamically react to the player's behavior/actions.

Looks like this is a bit more serious than just leaked content.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesOf all the things, I'm genuinely annoyed and frustrated by just how many gamers I've seen go "Looks fake. This isn't what games look like! This is an indie knock-off! So fake news dude!"
Gamers can be so incredibly stupid when it comes to how games work and are made. They can be the equivalent to a man screaming at you for daring to suggest there may indeed be some connection between an egg and their chicken dinner.
I did get an amusing laugh at a bunch of devs on twitter roasting some poor idiot who claimed "Graphics are the first thing completed about a video game".

You just gotta laugh at them, and if you meet them and they can be reasoned with, feel free to enlighten them. They often just don't know any better. Those posts probably come from kids who don't really know how games are made in the first place.
And don't be too hard on them, it's not as if many people realize how other media is made either. I bet plenty of adults think movies are shot in the same order as the end product, just to name one example.
It's pretty cool, yeah. It also sounds like a return to Rags to Riches storytelling, which I like. I'm kinda sick of the whole deconstruction of those storylines in recent GTA games, to be honest. I play to have fun in an escapist setting, and I'm well aware that it is unrealistic, I don't need to be told. Especially not by example, for 40 hours straight...

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesYou could show them this comic
. That's a great demonstration of the disconnect.
I think that is exactly how people initially imagine a work of fiction is made: that it is finished scene by scene, level by level, chapter by chapter, etc. You make one perfect polished mission, then you make another.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesI mean relatively last minute, when the trailers and gameplay footage come out.
And if they didn't keep it so secret, more people would understand it and not complain about it.
I mean, have you ever seen someone complain about an unfinished house looking unfinished? An unprepared meal looking unappetizing? Of course not. People generally understand those processes because they can see them.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest times

What's wrong with having a Latina protagonist? Seems a little racist to immediately assume that would be bad.
In any case, the game will also add new missions and cities over time.
