If they want this to resolve everything, then they're going to have to rush things then. They've really been spinning their wheels on various plots, and sometimes stuff just happens and is then forgotten about (at least for a while).

I will give them credit for doing a fantasy series with an overarching plot, but it definitely feels like this wasn't in their wheelhouse. I feel like it would have helped if Greoning had hired a few younger writers to give a different perspective on things. Or at least, an established fantasy author as a consultant (preferably one who writes more lighthearted stuff so they wouldn't clash too much with Matt's sensibilities).

As it is, if this season is in line with the previous ones, then... who knows how it will be remembered. Probably not as well as The Simpsons or Futurama. Saying that, I doubt this show will get a revival like Futurama did.

[up] They better make a double-length episode or two.

The final season has been out for a few weeks. I guess spoiler tags aren't necessary.

It was decent, but inconsistent, just like the show in general. The fight in Darkness Falls was good, but the confrontation in the final episode was a bit anti-climactic. A bunch of loose ends, although the show did resolve a bunch of stuff too.

Luci is dead, in heaven. Elfo and Miri rule Dreamland together. Bean and Mora went off to be alone together without saying goodbye. Zog is living in the woods with his bear family.

It was fine.

It was weird how at one point Bean said that she was going to destroy all the magic, but then never did, or even really try to. She also said that she couldn't just kill Dagmar, because then she would be in heaven or hell, and could come back. So Bean said she had to erase Dagmar from existence. This was treated as a serious moment when she said it, with her and Zog talking about the implications, but that never happened either. Kind of weird. There was even a moment where Elfo said "What if this was all a dream, wouldn't that be infuriating?"

They kept teasing all these potential endings and none of them happened. Which is fine if they're jokes, but the first two were treated seriously in the moment.

As mentioned there were some loose ends. They even left Dagmar alive. Maybe they wanted to leave some things open on the off chance there is a revival someday.

I'm surprised that Miri and Elfo ended up being a couple, before the fifth season premiered, I shipped them as a joke.

I'm glad they didn't have Bean destroy magic. One Star vs. the Forces of Evil was enough.

It's just a theory, but perhaps the magic scene was intended as a "Take that".
