I know right? What kind of person want to criticize the first issue of a comic? Fucking wait until like all four issues come out then your complaints are valid.
Well, next issue came out. More action, more characters exchanging witticisms, still little plot developments, so if that's what interests you...HOLY MACKEREL, WHEN DID ADAM BRYCE THOMAS BECAME SUCH A GOOD ARTIST?!
(2) A teenage girl kissed a hedgehog and apparently reset the fabric of reality and here we are.
-belch-
Alright, letss do this, issue #2.
- The art is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally frickin good.
- I repeat: really freaking good like dayam.
- Refreshing to see Amy as an Action Girl and not a devoted groupie. Glad they took notes from Sonic Boo-
- Nope. She's just less psychotic with her crush. I like the way they're fighting together. Reminds me of Forces and Sonic Advance 3. Okay, well she's still an Action Girl.
- Sad thing about "game canon" is that we're right back to this "will they, won't they, no they never will" with Sonic and Amy, and it'll probably be that same joke on repeat. I liked how they were portrayed in Boom, the crush is less obvious but it's somewhat mutual, and Sonic's not being this weird Celibate Hero who rejects Amy's advances at every turn because
she's like 12Sonic refuses to have a girlfriend or some noise. I'm not even that big on romance or marriage, but I'd rather the semi-romantic friendship we saw in Boom over the tired "Amy hits on Sonic and Sonic holds up his hand." Feels like two steps backwards, you know? - "Living by my way, my own way." I feel like these are the lyrics to one of Sonic's songs from the Adventure games.
- OH FOR THE LOVE OF, ORBOT AND CUBOT ARE BACK!? -puts book down-
...
...
Why can't these characters get phased out like everybody else? MY GOD.
- Oh, so it's Eggman again. What a surprise. I am shocked. I genuinely did not think Eggman was in anyway involved in this plot. This is an incredible development. Really.
- Knock knock it's Knuckles? I don't know about this. Unlike Sonic he doesn't chuckle. He'd rather flex his muscles.
- Who the frack are these two new guys? They look shady.

Those are Rough and Tumble, two new villains. There'll be another new character soon!

Whats wrong with Orbot and Cubot. They make good sidekicks to Eggman.
Also I don't think the one in the chair is Eggman, as Sonic pointed out he is not nearly as subtle.
From the sound of it the comic will be it's own universe detached form the games. Just assuming the games happened.
They are also mercenaries like the Hooligans.

I never felt like Boom take on Sonamy was somehow better. They just interact like they're not a couple or interested in each other in every scene unless writers want to make quick wink that will make shippers go drooling with joy and then back to business as usual.
Also, yeah, what makes you think it's Eggman? Just because Orbot and Cubot work for him? That's the same kind of deduction that got Sonic arrested for Shadow crimes in SA 2.

Since Rough and Tumble will make their debut next week, I predict that they will fuse and become Rumble
◊.
I'm guessing it's because of a lot of weird factors like:
- The Archie Sonic comic lasted for more than 20 years when it fell apart after lawsuits orchestrated by a crazy-ass writer whose train of logic feels akin to that of the Reverend.
- It's starting entirely from scratch, leaving previous plots and characters hanging (R.I.P Relic the Pika and Gold the Tenrec).
- Because all of this is happening in rapid succession.
By the way, how often does Ian Flynn do his Bumblekast thing? I kinda want to throw a question via Twitter.
If IDW Sonic will have some dark themes, what do you think they should be?
Personally, it should be less cheesy 90's edge (a la Shadow the Hedgehog) and more serious subject matter and Family-Unfriendly Violence. Even moments where certain Sonic characters are in extreme pain or terror.
@ 283; true.
@ 284; I do like the names they come up with for these characters. The only names that've felt out of place in this whole franchise are Espio and
@ 285; I just... can not stand them. note
Plus I've never felt Eggman needed sidekicks. Sonic and his friends are all about working together and teamwork, so Eggman, as the anti-thesis of that, should be working alone. I mean, he can have the occasional hired help, and I especially like how the comics handled him by giving him like-minded Mobian allies. But Scratch and Grounder were a bumbling duo, and so were Bokkun, Decoe, and Bocoe. Coincidentally enough, they were my least favorite parts of Sonic X and AOTSH.
If Eggman's going to have a sidekick, I'd prefer it be a subordinate (Iron King), or a lackey (Snively), or heck, even Zavoc works. But robotic underlings who exist to make Robotnik look bad make no sense to me. Why would he even build something like that. It's like building a high-five machine that intentionally misses you, or zaps you whenever you connect with it. I've always preferred Eggman to be a repeated failure, but a somewhat intimidating foe, and Orbot and Cubot, in the games at least, almost always served the opposite of that.
@ 286; I won't say Boom's take was really deep, but it was refreshing after so many instances of Sonic just flat-out ignoring the relationship. note
I don't have the book in front of me, but I remember someone sitting in Eggman's base and once Orbot and Cubot showed up, the two characters most associated with Eggman, I assumed it was him. I can't imagine Metal having much use for them. note
