Wow, sixteen RT reviews right out of the gate and they're all rotten. Not surprised? Well...I figured there would probably be one or two of the odd positive reviews, but still, I think everyone saw this coming.
(Everyone, please remember to be constructive in your responses to this.)
"Hey, least I didn't lose all my artistic talent when I crash landed in the arena here."Casual reminder that that was using The Emoji Movie as the deciding factor on if they should just sell off their film (and TV) divisions
, and thought it would make for franchise material.

As did I...and pretty much everyone here.
So we know it sucks with the critics. Now we need to see it flop in the box office. Only then can we bring out the champagne.
Real talk though, I honestly feel bad for the cast and crew. As far as we know, they never asked to work on this movie, and they probably thought it was as much a bad idea as we all did. Now that the cat's out of the bag and the elephant in the room has been acknowledged, the best thing they can do is to accept what comes next.
Hopefully, the director will be graceful about this and probably do something like post a "well, that escalated quickly" meme image on Twitter or something like that.

I think I expected the reception to be mediocre, not this brutal. I didn't expect a Norm of the North level critical disaster.
I kinda hope that Chris Stuckmann and Jeremy Jahns review it. XD
Do not obey in advance.![]()

I just hope the animation crew wasn't stuck in a similar situation as the sausage party animators
I too also hope that the director will act like an adult and not call people racist, sexist, homophobic, or whatever for not liking/seeing the film like a certain other Director of a Sony film.

Never expected that, but thanks regardless.
(May I ask what was your favorite part?)
RE: The You-Know-What Movie being the deciding factor on whether Sony sells their film and TV divisions or not:
Oh. Wow.
Those guys are unbelievable.

I still think a weird premise can work if you find a good execution of it, and make sure that the story is strong enough to hold it. As said before, I think Jailbreak should have been the main character and it should have been about her trying to fight a deadly virus that has affected her owner's phone. In my opinion, the movie's plot is really idiotic and has it be the hero's fault for putting the whole world in danger.

Well I'm looking forward to The Nostalgia Critic and Honest Trailers to tear this one apart.
I can already picture the Honest Trailer:
The Emoji Movie.
Meet Gene, he's supposed to be a Meh emoji, except he can't help but be more than just meh. But when he makes an ambiguous face, he's got no choice but to go on the run with his friend Hi-5, the obligatory funny-accented goofball and Jailbreak, the even more obligatory rebellious love interest to make him one single emotion before they get snuffed out by Smiler, the villain who's so obviously evil, it's not even ironically funny.
Join the three misfit emojis as they embark on a quest...that's totally an enlongated commercial for phone apps like: Snapchat, Twitter, and...Just Dance? Really? That's an app too? Oh come on.
Witness Gene as he goes through the painfully obvious Aesop that being yourself is way better than being one single thing everyone expects you to be. Hey, guys at Sony? You realize that's been done to death by now, right? And be flabbergasted by how this movie was the deciding factor on whether or not Sony should sell off their film and TV divisions.
(needle scratch)
Wait. Seriously?! Sony thought this'd be worth a franchise?! Oh man, those guys are dumb!
Starring...
- Less than Meh (Gene)
- Loser Hand (Hi-5)
- Wyldstyle done Wrong (Jailbreak)
- Genericly super perfectionist villain #3006 (Smiler)
- Patrick Stewart after losing a bet (Poop)
- Obligatory male human character nobody will care about (Alex)
- Obligatory female human love interest nobody will care about either (Addie)
- And...the biggest bunch of freaking idiots this side of Hollywood. (Sony executives and Tom Rothman)
Sony Executives v Everyone: Dawn of Idiotic Ideas
We could've gotten a Popeye movie by the guy who made Samurai Jack, but nooooo! They thought Genndy's idea wasn't "modern enough." Sigh, it's stuff like this that make me not want to live on this planet anymore...

This movie is going to be the new Norm Of the North for Snark Bait. So far, it looks like it's gotten a zero from everyone, which shows how much of a halfbaked idea this was. All the animation reviewers on Youtube are going to have a field day.
These are the two most positive reviews I found, which both say it's meh.

Now, I'm pretty sure Sony selling their Film and Television Rights based on how well the Emoji Movie does was just a rumor. It could be true, and, considering how terrible their Films have been, I wouldn't be surprised.
In this hypothetical scenario that they do get rid of their Film and Television Studios, who do you think will get what? And would Popeye (in the USA) finally go Public Domain (because I'm pretty sure he's Public Domain through out the rest of the World)?

First reviews for The Emoji Movie are now
coming in
and the result is pretty much what almost all of us expected.
The film is horrible.
has a clue, but it's usually not the correct one 0.55% of the time
