[up] It didn't seem like they were biologically incapable of eating meat, though?

Context: elves being vegan

It was implied in anime and explicitly said in novel. It's impossible eat meat or animal products for them.

[up] Does it say why? Are they incapable of digesting animal products or is it a cultural or religious taboo?

Edit: fixed a word

It's physically impossible for them from what I've read online.

[up][up]Partially it's cultural as elves treat animals as equals so basically they would eat their friends and neighbours. But mainly meat and such smell badly to them into point they simply can't eat it even if they wanted. Half-elves apparently like meat as much as humans do.

It isn't out of the question for elves to be biological herbivores though.

Episode out:

Yeah and it's not like she is actually seeking out the small half elf villages out there. Humans fear her magic and elves don't want her cause she carries human qualities such as eating meat.

Yeah, but I mean, a lot of stuff can happen in the span of several centuries.

On another note it's kinda interesting how elf blood can just surface up after several generations.

It's likely a really recessive gene.

If an elf is anywhere on your family line you are a carrier of the gene, have a kid with someone who also has the gene... roll 2 dice and if you get snake eyes bam the kid is a half elf. A lot of genetic diseases are that way.

It's a good thing Victoria isn't bogged down by her condition, being content immersing herself in researching how to build herself a refrigerator for her pudding. Good thing she was so cute too, because her segment started with a lot of boring narration.

Lion King's part was pretty nice even if the art took a hit. Good food is always worth defying death for.

Looks like it's all returning characters next time!

Yeah, Victoria is really cute. The mini-fridge is such a nice idea too.

I'm excited for the returning characters, but I would really want to get the segment with the Moon Elf girl already.

Episode 6: In which the folks insist that their trademark favorite dish is the supreme choice. They also finally try out a dish that's not their trademark favorite, which is really something that should have happened sooner.

Aletta is a cutie. Her narration is also interesting to hear, especially when it's about the modern doodads she's unfamiliar with. And awww, she still doesn't have a stable job in fantasy-land. But at least she gets to fall in love with potatoes.

All the regulars arguing about their favorite dishes was fun to watch. And they even decided to try out the other dishes.

Aletta amazement with stuff like running water and cardboard boxes is adorable. I hope she finds a steady job on the other side too.

Next episode we finally get the Moon girl.

Due to health issues I haven't been able to eat spicy food for a long while but I hadn't missed it too much until this episode. That chicken curry looked so nice.

So the moon elf was actually the dragon of death and she now works at the restaurant as she has no concept of money. I do love the world building this series has just as much as the food in it.

Kuro the new waitress is The Dragon of Death. [lol]

Yeah, this show worlbuilding is on point. The other world is a fantasy realm with all the bells and whistles and we get to see it in a unique way.

[up] We know from previous experience that powerful dragons make excellent maids— I mean waitresses.

We kind of glossed over the old guy's actually pretty cool backstory, but I'm not complaining about the Kuro screentime.

[up] His story actually surprised me. I had him pegged for the barbarian warrior type first time I saw him.

Also does anyone else feel like Aka (I have to stop myself from calling her Alexstraza) is setting Kuro up? Even if she didn't send the door she's taking taking the chance to get her Hikikomori sister out of the "house" and to socialise a little.

I don't think it is 'setting up' but she does look to be trying to get her sister? to have some contact with others.

One has to wonder though if her magic enchantments on the restaurant are keeping Kuro from killing everyone around her, they did say her mere presence killed people.

Next episode looks to be the first not set in the restaurant, I like this.

I wouldn't pin Red as family person. We are talking about legendary merciless plunderer who ruined whole kingdoms here. Well, she was probably in good mood because restaurant so she was being generous on whim here, because ol' good times.

Also apparently in novel was said, Kuro inspected restaurant behind doors by magic and took some precautions to not kill anyone beforehand.

Aka is definietly trying to get Kuro out of her solitude, but I'm not sure if she intentionally sent the door to the Moon, or just went with it, when they met.

Another interesting detail is that the Moon was already damaged when Kuro went there, so that's another story there I'd like to hear.

[up] Probably got damaged in their fight against Chaos.

[up][up] The anime did at least show Kuro insoecting the restaurant through the door.

Don't think Aka flung a door to the moon, she was just taking advantage of a neat coincidence. Gotta say, the image of a door crashing into the moon was somewhat amusing.

Maybe, but it's also clear that she considers mortals as lesser beings (a certain pair of restaurateurs aside). Going by Kuro's narration, all the other greater dragons considered each other peers so you'd expect them to act a little differently around each other. Nice to the Waiter and No Hero to His Valet are tropes for a reason

Edit: And while I think of it. I added some entries to the Heartwarming trope page because, especially for this episode Nekoya has done a lot for a couple of their patrons. The episode goes out of its way to mention that waiting for seven days one thousand times is a lot easier than waiting for seven thousand days but when you think on it, it's more than that. It's a hot meal that he didn't have to prepare himself. The lemon juice in the water and the vegetables in the curry probably helped with the trace elements in his diet. And it's human contact, the chance to sit down and just talk face to to face with another human being that probably did a lot for his mental health.
