I didn't see a thread for him. So we can discuss him here.
Mod note: This thread is primarily to discuss Chuggaaconroy's work, not the allegations against Emile.
- If there are new allegations, or updates regarding the early 2024 allegations, they can be reported here if they come from a relevant and reliable source.
- If there are no more updates, there's nothing more to say about the early 2024 allegations. They've already been discussed at length. Trying to restart that discussion will get posts thumped.
- This is not a place to share your own opinions on the truth of the allegations. Claims that they're true or false will be thumped. Attacks on the credibility of Emile or his accusers will be thumped. This is not a court.

I have seen a bit of speculation on what Emile's current situation is. But I will say that he needs more than two days of help. His mental issues seem so awful that they could take years to fix, if ever. And that chilling point he made about wanting his own friends to stay away from him...I wouldn't be surprised if he can't trust his himself anymore. Honestly, things about Emile seem a lot more complicated than him simply hiding how bad he was from the public eye.

Jon and Tim would have had to know that Masae had a falling out with Emile of some kind (considering the fact she refused to associate him for years now including presumably not wanting to be at TRG events anymore), and I suspect they had some idea of what it was about. However that doesn't mean they knew the full extent of how bad it was much less the fact he was being inappropriate with so many other people. I don't think it's entirely groundless to suspect maybe Jon or Tim could or should have known better or done more but ultimately Emile is a grown man who's old enough to be held accountable for his own actions, and this is all still in the grounds of speculation anyway.

I suspect they knew there was a falling out of some form but it's possible neither side wanted to share details. Given it happened around the time she got a boyfriend I always chalked it up to him trying to take things in a romantic direction, her declining, and the ensuing awkwardness putting distance between them
At the very least, Tim brought up in some reddit posts that Emile is checked out into a psychiatric ward
While it won’t change what Emile did. At least he’s getting help
Masea herself said that she kept the details of her not wanting to work with Emile anymore pretty hushed out of fear of what it would do to her own platform. [1]
None of us can know how much people close to Emile knew about the details or whether it was there place to investigate that or not. In my opinion, I don't think it's unreasonable for NCS or Proton Jon or others to just decide it was none of their business given how creative splits happen for many benign reasons.
This is kinda related of why I cringe whenever I see any let's player have youtube comments where they gush about let's player as person and talk about them how they saved them or etc because I just feel like that is opening yourself as vulnerable to predation in similar manner as people who crush on musicians.
Like parasocial relationships are really dangerous and influence allows people to harm others in way they couldn't get away with otherwise.
Yeah, I'd imagine they knew something was up, but had no idea the full details. It didn't help that Chugga had her cameo in his Splatoon 2 LP without her consent, which fooled the fans to an extent that they were still on good terms.
I've been trying to think why this hurt worse than Change the Channel, and I think I have a few ideas why.
1. Channel Awesome had more of a business feeling than TRG. Yeah, there was an illusion of comradery among reviewers, and some of them genuinely were friends, but other than that, they felt distant from each other outside of crossovers. Thus, when the reviewers split and broke the illusion, as shocking as it was, there was also a feeling of relief to it. Them not truly being friends with Doug Walker made it easier to comprehend that this was happening, in spite of the illusions.
TRG, by contrast, was a group of friends. There was no illusion in their comradery, they always had each other's backs. The community that they built up was not one out of convenience or business, but one that was built out of caring and genuine passion. So seeing a core member turn out to be this is sending much stronger shockwaves throughout the community. These people cared for Chuggaaconroy, and now we are feeling a trust betrayed as we have to see this friend group pick up the pieces with a over a decade of real friendship destroyed right before our eyes.
2. The real Doug Walker was very much buried behind the characters who portrayed, rarely showing his real self. Nostalgia Critic was the face of the channel, but he was just a character, and we all knew that. The other reviewers, similarly, were just characters. And though we got to know the Nostalgia Critic very well, we didn't actually get to know Doug Walker that well even in a parasocial sense. Thus, when Change the Channel happened, we got a proper understand of Doug Walker's character for the first time as someone who let awful things happen around him.
Chuggaaconroy, on the other hand, always presented as himself. There was no character, it was just Emile. He was giving us himself, personality flaws and all. The other let's players, similarly, were themselves. Emile went out of his way to show us the real him, to hear his real thoughts and opinions, to experience his real passion. We thought we were getting to know the real person, but as it turned out, we couldn't have been more wrong. He has no sense of boundaries, even with actual children. It makes us feel foolish for ever thinking that we knew enough about him.
3. Doug Walker's deal was that he was complicit in the awful deeds, but never actually did much himself aside from the absolute mess that was To Boldly Flee. Most of the horrible stuff came from Mike Michaud's abusive treatment of the employees, with Doug's part being not making any effort to help out at all. Similarly, despite all the shit with JewWario, Doug's part was being involved in the coverup.
Chugaaconroy actually did hurt people directly. His lack of understanding boundaries drove away several close friends and hurt many others. The fact that one of these people was 15 to his 19 years old just adds to how gross it all is. Even if he genuinely wasn't trying to be sexual with them at all outside of humor reasons, his inability to understand that he was making them uncomfortable makes the pain he inflicted very real.
There are now points where I can feel myself being able to move on from this by focusing on the still real positivity that came about from Emile and TRG's content, as well as future things to focus my attention on, but the parasocial pain still lingers. It also doesn't change the sadness I feel towards this friend group that trusted him for over a decade. I genuinely hope that the TRG circle will be able to recover and move on, but I know that it very much cannot be easy.

Going further on the above, there are two updates: Jon unfollowed Emile on Twitter, which is probably a sign that their friendship is finished. Tim has also stated that Emile plans to disappear from internet life entirely to stay with his girlfriend, and that he will not be living in his usual house, despite the billing still being split between him and Tim. Emile could be gone for months or years. We don't know, but I think his friendship with everyone else aside from Tim is shattered at this point.

I'm wondering what TRG is gonna do now as a whole. Delete all the old stuff? Try and rebrand? End entirely? They can't just keep posting new L Ps when their entire backlog has Chuggaa in it.
Cole released a statement asking people to not ask him about Emile. https://twitter.com/HyperCole64/status/1750757950522859998

Power of Thor!Mostly word of mouth as I find it since I don’t have Twitter, but supposedly Canadian Chili put out a similar statement. I do question how this will affect Tim’s relationships with Jon and others given Jon it sounds like is closer to the affected people like Masae than Tim is. I wonder if they’ll throw an ultimatum to him to disaffiliate.

Her statement is here.
She states that she has nothing but disgust for him now after the revelations brought forth from Werster and his friend and no longer wishes to associate with him whatsoever.
Legitimately, at this point I almost feel like I should never watch any content from anyone associated with the TRG brand, even if Chugga was the only one at fault.
There's just this poisoned well of thought in my head that everyone else has some secrets they're hiding and Chugga, while still wrong, is just someone they were able to easily cut out to get eyes off them for a while.
Like...stuff still isn't adding up about the timing of all this, or how much some people knew.
And if these horrible thoughts are going to exist, might as well not feed them.
I think there is a good chance Emile himself realizes he can't come back from this and that it would be for the best if TRG was abolished and everyone else moved on as best they could. I expect maybe at most a final statement from him but beyond that I hope he doesn't return to internet life as I feel that's for the best for everyone involved.

This is an outrage against Luminara!

NCS is too nice for this world tbh.
