I thought there would be at least something related to the story... if there is any one in this game.
The actual Destiny barely had any.
In the game, anyway. It actually has a rich lore and tons of engaging character and worldbuilding elements, but they're All There in the Manual. Destiny is a lot of fun for what it's supposed to be, but it's about the shittiest possible option for Bioware to base their new IP on because it is the exact opposite of their strengths: 100% gameplay, minimal story.
"Yes of course! The game is designed so you can enjoy an amazing BioWare story and explore an incredible open world alone or with friends."
From Corey Gaspur, the game's lead designer.
Of course, you can also play most of SWTOR's story alone too.

Well hopefully they actually interject story into this shit.
Better make the exo-suits feel really powerful too.
That's what I did. I played alone in SWTOR & I'll paly alone here.

I'm still worried that, even if there's story, its not an RPG at all.
That was more because of a hype. I highly doubt Anthem will have the same hype as Destiny or Division, since people already experienced disappointments.
Destiny and the Division both had strong legs; and how much do you want to bet that Destiny 2 is also going to make shitloads of money?
All I can say is that Bioware has burned me before, so I can't be too excited. There's still this little ember of hope in me somewhere, but it's not enough to make me pre-order or consider a purchase this early.
Don't really care about Destiny 2, so I don't know. It might make lots of money.
I have absolutely no interest in this title. Dragon Age 4 is the only thing I highly anticipate from Bio Ware.

Didn't the Division bungle soon after & lost a lot of its player base? Bioware kinda took a lot of hits recently so a lot of people are most likely gonna be more apprehensive than hyped for this game really.
Also on the topic of RPG mechanics, I'm assuming if there is then it will be focused on buying & upgrading your private exo-suits if that is the only player activity you do. Unless you can do more important stuff out of the suit then just buying parts & getting quests.

I wish I had your optimism for the DA franchise. I really do.
Back on-topic, I'm sure the usual folks will be doing interviews or putting together press releases to showcase the story. It's hard to sell an E3 demo/video to investors without making it heavily gameplay oriented.
The problem is that they didn't show much to get hyped for.
Inquisition's announcement trailer showed really good graphics and characters we were already invested in (Some that we hadn't seen for a number of years at that point). Then we had a gameplay demo that showed us combat, environments, and dialogue/RPG mechanics with those characters we already love.
Anthem hasn't done any of those things. Just the flying and the environments. And, while both are AMAZING and seamless, I don't have much context to anything else and it hasn't sold me on a world and story I want to learn more about like Far Cry 5's trailers did.
And I'm worried it won't have any RPG mechanics at all. Its 4-player co-op like Borderlands is and that series is kind of infamous for Silent Protagonist being a problem like Dishonored was. How much can we really even affect the world if there's 4-person co-op going on? Can we even have a character personality? I doubt the other players will even be acknowledged because even trying to think of how dialogue or cutscenes would work in a Bioware game with four people at max is a headache.
It;s interesting how the hub world area is done first person but the open world is TPS - inverting Destiny's method. Of course, I was on board as soon as I saw the giant walkers...
And then watching the combat reminded me how the Frostbite engine makes this all o much flash - I can barely make out the enemy types (All dark grey / black silhouettes); can't really define the silhouettes of the gun wielding enemy types; the reticules are a bit confusing and the backgrounds so busy it's a bit of a blur.
It's like the crazy busy Kett environments in Andromeda, where all the Kett just blending into the background.
I mean, hoping that without vehicles or a heavy layering of RPG mechanics (aside from the usual loot tables in battlefield) may help. It's pretty but I don't have enough UK based friends on PS 4 (All of the XBOX! + It 's hard enough grouping for Destiny even with the Trope Team!) for co-op.
So, hoping it may be able to hold its own solo or support matchmaking / local groups in its "open world".
I'm intrigued but cautious.
Really hoping by Online they mean its just online heavy but you can still do single-player all the way through.
I mean shit it be awful if they don't do companions like they always did. Bioware has made some of my favorite characters in video-gaming such as Garrus, Tali, Iron Bull & Varric. It be real fucking shitty if our only companionship & extra firepower in this game is just other players.
Fuck especially if we get a silent protagonist this time. I fucking hate that shit in an RPG & I love that Bioware moved on from that archaic & limiting element.

What you don't want to recreate a romance with some rando online /sarcasm
"It's the greatest romance we've ever done - the REAL THING!"
I am getting major Destiny vibes off it - especially with the faked "Just logging on to do a quest" thing.
I feel pretty confident saying that there won't be Companions. That's the point of four-player co-op. The other three players are your companions.
Which is just another way this game seems to be playing to Bioware's weaknesses while ignoring their strengths.
I know, right? Destiny is the last comparison they should want to draw to their new IP. Bioware has always been at their best when focusing on story, their gameplay has always been more-or-less mediocre.
I mean, I don't mind the idea of Bioware taking a game concept that one company already did and putting their spin on it. Destiny with a lot more life and character in it isn't an awful idea in of itself.
Heck, two of my suggestions for a new Bioware IP thus far were a Horror RPG and a Western RPG. The first could easily take elements of Friday the 13th, Alan Wake, etc and do it with their own take on the ideas. And a Western Cowboy RPG would inevitably have to take some notes from what Red Dead Redemption did right.
The third of my suggestions was an Urban Fantasy, which could take notes from any kind of UF series out there.
But, yeah, the co-op feels like your companions this time around which is... not a strength. Random people online are not even on the same level of comradery that Bioware has been capable of creating. Especially if you wind up with 12 year olds. Or, worse, you have no friends who will play the game with you and are thus companion-less... in a Bioware RPG.
...Hmmmm... Maybe this is a horror RPG after all.
Also, I hate the design of the exo suits. Why? In trying to avert the look of Power Armor from Fallout, the arms and legs act like sleeves that you slide your legs into.
...If you break a bone in that thing, you are fucked.

I'm seeing a lot of, well, not negativity exactly, but I can't think of a better word right now, in this thread, and it doesn't seem unfounded, but I'm interested in this. Depending on the relative quality of the products and release dates, this could drag me away from Destiny 2. Actually, never mind the release dates, I strongly doubt this will be out this year, and certainly it won't be out in three months to compete with Destiny 2.
Supposedly their aiming for Spring 2018.
Apathy and trepidation are what I'd call it.
I believe the feeling can be described as hesitation, caution & apprehension.
Such feelings can't be faulted as the gameplay reveal wasn't exactly mesmerizing I mean there the graphics are nice but it didn't have that wow factor that just snares you along with the fact Bioware has had some issues in recent years & the hype-backlash felt by similar games such as Destiny. Really hoping we get more trailers quickly to actually gain some hype aside from pretty graphics & some cool-looking flying exo-suits.
I mean I'm curious about this but fuck will I be pissed if the only companions we get are just other Goddamn fucking players.

Developer interview. Looks like, for whatever reason, they aren't discussing ANYTHING story related yet, but they're insistent that the game will have a story like fans expect from Bioware.
Popcap made a Battlefield-style third person shooter with its PVZ license. Any developer can step out of the box. It's when they mix genres they get into trouble.
