Yup what Slim says is also true.
They can be just as bad about this, but I hear they at least make some So Bad, It's Good ones.
That one Tom Cruise movie where he time leaps when he dies was based on a manga, and was pretty good for what it was.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.A funny instance of live-action anime is the Terraformar and Attack on Titans films.
Because those series are among the ones with an explicitly multinational cast with several characters of confirmed Western origin who all got race-lifted in Japanese in the films.
And there's also both properties being so extremely special effects heavy that it would have required Star Wars level CG budget to actually get right.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."https://screenlider.com/cowboy-bebop-netflix-cancelled/
So from what I can tell it wasn't a flop per say it just wasn't some major Phenomenon.
Also as the Article says, it's kind of a self sabotage? Its hard to get new viewers to watch a show that we now know won't get much of a conclusion, especially as the version with an actual ending is on the same service.

Bow to the PrototypeEdge of Tomorrow actually base on novel, the novel that got adapted into both a manga and a movie. Really the only thing the movie took from the novel was the alien monster that have the ability to repeat time and the MC + the main girl gained that power.
E.T technically is a Isekai movieThey probably don't see it that way. They likely don't see it as "trampling" their work.
I heard Oda left with a good impression with the showrunner of the Netflix show for example.

As a original watcher of the anime, I think the live action show was fantastic with flaws and it being cancelled was bullshit.
The show was clearly made by people who deeply loved the material, hence all the story beats and elements preserved. You just need to change SOME things or there's no point in watching the remake.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Honestly after seeing this vid with Eds Actor I really hope they Uncancel the show or something. They were super Hyped to play Ed and was clearly passionate about it, imagine going through that only to have your one scene mocked across the internet then the show gets canned before you have a chance to be a full part of the cast.
Bow to the PrototypeIt honestly depends on the thing in question.
Motoko Kusanagi being played by Scarlett Johansen was seen as more like Mukokuseki than race change I remember from citizens in Japan interviewed about it for instance, since Mukokuseki makes there be little difference except all the westerners or western descended are blonde and blue eyed because.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. It also helps the novel doesn't have an anime adaptation yet, which probably would had colored the perception of the movie much easily.
In all fairness, Japan themselves barely get live-action anime right anyway.
Its a rare feat.
To be fair, Japan's standards for films are much lower than the U.S., and as such, Japanese film makers can afford to do stuff which probably won't fly in Hollywood, not to mention many of those films are pet projects mostly to please the ego of some movie director or a company. At least they have themselves to blame if something goes wrong. And the same goes for Hollywood when it comes to remakes of American-made stuff regarding the last part about sharing blame.

The problem actually seem to be the live-action version tried to preserve thing that only work in animation while make unnecessary changes. The things they decided to change go against a lot of the ideas in the original. A good adaptation change things but still retain the theme of the original work. Basically the things they changed are unneeded (looking at you the amp up violent and sex) while they decided to keep the things that should have been changed (Ed personally and appearance).

The Scrappy of the Trope Pantheon, God of Thumps
Considering the amount of merchandise Netflix planned out, I am sure Netflix thought the show would be their next Stranger Things but when it became clear with the drop in viewership and negative feedback from audiences and critics, they knew if a second season was made, it would bomb hard. To them, better safe than sorry.
I could get that sentiment but with the slew of other shows Netflix cancelled willynilly when the streamer used to be known for funding a lot of far out ideas, its disheartening even with Bebop’s reception.
RIP Ein’s acting career. Now live as a mundane dog.
I notice much of the stuff Netflix wants to be “giant cashcows” (Marvel shows, Dark Crystal, Marco Polo, Jupiter Legacy, Bebop) end up flopping and the unexpected stuff become the cashcows instead (Squid Game, Stranger Things, Bojack Horseman, Tiger King). Dunno about films.

Pantheon server for all who click here. Lost too much money and time, this coaster ain’t stopping.Yeah, foreign shows like Squid Game.
And for an American streaming service, streaming non-local shows wouldn't help them in the long run. I doubt they would like to be considered as a service when they only broadcast anime, shitty shows and foreign shows which are better than any other American or western-made stuff they could shown there.
I recall that the main reason why they are so intent on turning Jupiter's Legacy into a franchise is to own a superhero blockbuster franchise.
Technically they already have a successful superhero series in Umbrella Academy but thats licensed so they don't fully own it like they do JL.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Alright.
Anyway
Sorta. I can explain.
. It's a big flop for its budget. Maid is in its tenth week and above Cowboy Bebop in viewership. Maids peak at its third week was at 129 million hours watched, meanwhile Cowboy Bebop reached 73 million hours watched... when you combine all three weeks it's been out, while being much more expensive.
Hell, even Hellbound, a korean show which got about zero presence in online conversations, reached a total of 133 million hours watched in the same three weeks.
Basically, for the sheer money, they spent on it. Its just not profitable to keep it going..
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."As said before, a major reason this was kind of a Dumb move was, aside from the quickness of it, It'll be hard to attract viewers and such when now the show won't get much resolution, and the fact that for now this is it is probably going to make the reception worse, as alot of the more constructive criticism I've seen trying to calm people down was directly about how this was just season 1 and there was time to improve and such
Basically they bailed in a way that made all there problems worse.
Did they ever say why they canned Dark Crystal? I read that they didn't give an official statement and people just presumed it was because it didn't get enough viewership.
Bow to the Prototype

What a surprise - Americans break everything they touch that isn't theirs.
