Sebastian feigned mock surprise. “Me, skip school? I would never!” His tone and the grin on his face gave away the joking nature of that statement. “Normally though, I wouldn’t skip school, but I feel like this takes a bit more priority over learning from a textbook.”

I feel as though you should consider her words more carefully- your friend is correct about none of you wanting to be investigated. Humanity has shown that they are intolerant towards things and people that are different from them- tracking down the insectoid should be high on your priorities list.

“Although I don’t think your powers are something useless,” Sebastian pointed out, keeping his voice down. “Everbody has some kind of power that can be used offensively, it seems like. I don’t know what Zia or Finn can do, but I can think of plenty of ways psychic powers could be used. I can manipulate shadows, Jessica can control people with her voice, and I think that one of us actually caught fire, ala human torch style.”

“And not to mention the fact that Benjy may have turned into a giant insect, but boy could he tunnel- he chewed through solid concrete and other stuff. It’s more than likely,” he reasoned, “that you have some kind of useful power.”

She wants to leave, so you give her a five minute lecture on why she probably has a cool power- a lecture which is flawed, in fact. I gave you your powers, and you have no idea what everyone else can do.

It was supposed to be reassuring, he thought back. “But anyway, let’s go.”

Adam went through the long interrogation. Patiently listening to the shouting principle's breathless speech. Interrogating them all one by one. Jesus Christ! Was this guy gonna find them all before they all got to be superheroes or even just have fun with these abilities? Before anybody got very far though Ciro managed to give everyone an explanation with an apology, and then looked at Adam.

Why me? Adam thought, he wasn't used to being needed by anyone. He was used to blending in and hiding. But he knew what it was like to be in trouble. In a second he came to a conclusion, at least going along with this was better than staring down the barrel of a gun, or some government surgeon poking and prodding whatever person happened to be there.

A second later he thought Here we go... and tried to open up until Shooter went on one of his little tirades, accusing them of being in a gang. That was goddamn ridiculous! He barely knew anyone! Despite being here for two years he never stuck his neck out or made many serious friends. He decided it was time to change something.

"Uh...Principle sh...shooter sir. We barely know each other, We were just staying in the same classroom that day. Plus, most of us in here would NEVER join a gang!"

Mirielle, On The Steps, SO MUCH GUILT

Mirielle bowed her head, saddened and distressed by the scene in front of her. She looked at Emmanuel, mouthing 'I'm sorry' once more. "It's okay, Mrs Vincent. He was stressed. I understand that." She stepped forward, and putting the box of cookies on the steps next to her (keeping a watchful eye on it), she stepped forward and wrapped Emmanuel in a tight hug. "Come by the bakery sometime. You haven't lived until you've tried my mother's hot chocolate," she whispered in his ear, before disengaging from the hug, and giving Emmanuel a thumbs-up. "Everything's fine now, Mrs Vincent. Thank you for the twenty dollars. I hope you have a lovely day, but both Emmanuel and I need to be on our way."

Mirielle picked up the box of cookies and headed up the stairs.

Hans and Emma

Hans tried to defuse the situation, knowing that Emma and Curt were lying, and trying to deflect their own problems on to him. "They're lying...cmon, man, you know that - why would they bring me up if they didn't want a convenient shield? She's trying to get us to fight so she doesn't have to deal with this."

He didn't want to fight Dennis - not for the sake of his sister jumping around basically winding jocks up and then watching em move, and not at all at that. This was not what he came here to do! He glared over at them - at Emma smugly smiling and basically hanging off of Curt's shoulder. He knew he shouldn't be surprised at this point, but every day it seemed Emma found new ways to prove herself more of "the missing member of the Mean Girls cast".

Just in case his attempt at stopping this violence before it started failed, he made sure his arms were ready in case Dennis threw a punch. He wasn't going to throw the first punch nor was he going to respond with crazy aggression, but he was going to make sure he didn't take heavy injuries.

Emma decided this was not going fast enough - no matter who won this fight she won, at least in her mind. She took out her phone briefly, seeing she got a message from one of her girlfriends, asking about that rumor she called for last night. Hawkins STD Rumor. Y / N? She quickly typed in a yes without really even considering which "Hawkins" it was.

She then announced, "And you know, Hans isn't exactly the nicest guy about it. He's straight up Alt-Right - he called you a cuck, Dennis!"

Ivy, Corridor of Slightly Lessened Pain
Worth a shot, Ivy guessed. She kind of expected Jessica-blob to try something, at the very least walk out of this by saying she wasn't involved, but this was a logical assumption. About eight terse words of conversation later, and Ms. Simone-blob walked about a foot in front her face, completely oblivious. She honestly thought there would be a loud crunching noise to follow, with her luck, but that didn't happen.

Ivy did her best to ignore Zia-blob's upbraiding as she got on her knees and started searching in earnest for her glasses, slowly moving away, but Jessica came over and found them. As it turns out, they had landed a good distance away from where she imagined they were; like, a whole three feet to the left.

She wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth, even if that horse's silver tongue was probably one of her biggest fears right now, so she quickly put her specs back on and looked at Jessica-blob as she turned into Normal Jessica.

...Well...kind-of.

Ivy was still a bit unsure about trusting either of them, but as she got up and silently nodded at the purple girl, she figured she could at least try to be polite. She still felt that she probably could run...again...but that was starting to look like a bad option.

"...H-Hhh...H-Hi..." Ivy said while slowly backing away from Zia. Her right hand shot up like it was spring-loaded, going the handshake route, and she simply said "...Ivy."

Pain spread across Ciro's tongue as he bit down on it, stopping himself from snapping back at how stupid these accusations were. It wasn't the first time he'd been accused of something criminal. Likely wouldn't be his last either. Just as likely that it wouldn't stop feeling any less terrible or unfair.

The hardest part was not getting angry about it, because that'd just make Shooter more convinced that they were hiding something. He counted slowly to five, taking some deep breaths through his nose as Adam spoke up. He was almost certain that anything else they said wouldn't change Shooter's mind. Many adults, in his experience, didn't like being proven wrong by a kid, especially after they'd made a big song and dance about being right.

Still, he had to try. The idea of them being hoodlums was so ludicrous that, when he spoke after Adam, it was with complete confidence. "Sir, with all respect, I don't have time to be running a gang, even if I wanted to. Which, to be super clear, I don't. At all. I'm too busy here or at home to have a social life, let alone a group to hang with. You can ask anyone who knows me. My family, your staff... no-one in here, cause this is my first time even meeting some of these guys."

"I can't speak for everyone, because Adam is the only person here that I was with last night. We were nowhere near the auditorium when it got destroyed. We're not in a gang. That's the honest truth." He could throw doubt on whoever Shooter's 'witness' was, but that might come off as too defensive. So instead he ended it there, keeping eye contact with the principal and praying silently that none of the others cracked under the pressure.

Who... Who the hell had told these lies?! This wasn't going to be easy, but Jacob had plans for situations like these. His mother would not be pleased about this. Detention was better than suspension, but no punishment was far better than both. Getting punished for something he did wrong was an accepted reality by Jacob, but he did nothing wrong!

First step was to never give up. The second he stopped denying the accusations it would become infinitely harder to completely clear his name. And step two would be taking the bargain Shooter provided. "Sir," Jacob began to say, "I'm not part of some gang. I couldn't break rules like that, and I hope you have a very reliable source for you to believe that someone like me was responsible for this in any way. I did go into the auditorium yesterday; Someone told me there was a bathroom connected to it where I could clean off the vomit. Whatever happened in here had already occurred before I went in." And now for the finishing touch, Jacob needed to provide a name.

There was really only one person he could think of that would be an option. Someone that he didn't think would be able to argue with the accusation, at least if he was to believe every snippet of crazy talk he remembered from yesterday. After pausing a few seconds to make it look like he was reluctant about the whole thing, Jacob said in an almost defeated voice "Benjy was in the auditorium. I didn't do anything, but I'm certain Benjy was here."

If he remembered right then Benjy was responsible. It was only fair.

Rogers High School, The Corridor

Zia watched the nascent memories swirling around Ms. Simone evaporate by Jessica's command, the reflexive adherence to the teen's orders as she passed them by, but only distantly. She was drowning in a sea of fear and the remnant of the suffocating, paralyzed pain of her peers - her victims. I... Could have killed them... The psychic didn't resist when Hawkins roughly grabbed her, avoiding her gaze desperately as the shock hit her. It was only the final warning that forced her to straighten and look at her, compelled the power to listen. Thankfully, she was dumped back onto the ground before any specific commands were given.

Zia stopped muttering to herself, propping herself up from the grimy corridor floor and just stared at Ivy and Jess, wondering if she could have really killed them. And she knew she could have. She could kill everyone, just by reaching out. She could silence every voice and image plaguing her, all through her new found power. The thought terrified her.

Zia Brayne suddenly found herself on her feet and sprinting down the corridor, away from Ivy and Jessica. She needed to get away, before she hurt anyone else. Her heart was thumping so loud she couldn't hear herself think, just running to the nearest way out.

"A highly unlikely story, Mr. Richmond, Mr. Gardner. You think I don't know what's going on in my school?! That I just came up with this theory on the spot? Well, I'll tell you two something. Every single person in this room has a reason for being here." Principal Shooter crossed his arms, glaring. "Do you kids think this is funny? Someone made major damage to my school, and the only witness is connecting all of you to the crime. That's right, kids. CRIME. That's what this is! And I'm not going to let some hoodlums destroy the perfect school environment I've worked to create-"

"Enough!" Babra interjected, standing up. "What kind of finger-pointing is this, Principal Shooter?! You already said your piece, and apparently nothing we say is going to change your mind, so just put us in detention for the rest of our lives and be done with it!"

But it was too late. Jacob delivered the name of Benjy, and Shooter practically snapped his fingers and started dancing right there. "I knew it. I knew it! This has to do with Benjy. The poor kid- do any of you know what his family is going through?! I had to pursue every clue I could, and I'm glad to see someone here is decent and moral enough to tell the truth! Mr. Miller, please, tell me what happened to Benjy."

At this, he glanced at the others. "Unless someone else wants to explain to me why my school's ventilation system was burned up by some kind of foreign acid?"

The Corridor

Jessica didn't look at Zia running away, and instead focused straight on Ivy's hand. "Jessica. Jessica Hawkins." She said, shaking her hand before pulling down on her hoodie once more, trying to hide her purple skin. "Listen, uh... I know my story about what happened yesterday is... really fucked up. I don't expect you to forgive me- it's just that... it was like there was this feeling in my body telling me to do things I didn't even think about doing."

She sighed, lowering her head. "Okay. You probably want to run away now. I won't stop you."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the corridor, right in front of one of the school's many exits, Zia would bump into another girl heading for the exit: the brown-haired Vivian Waters, usually cheery, now sporting a downbeat expression. "Oh my god." Vivian muttered, staring over at Zia like she was an apparition from hell. "It worked. The voice from the radio was right. Unless..." She pointed at the punk girl. "Are you Zia Brayne?"

The Entrance

"Jessica can control people with her voice?" Rose parroted, scratching the back of her head. "Sheesh. Better be on the lookout for that one." She then looked up at Sebastian, blushing a little as he talked about how she could probably have a cool power. "Thanks. I guess I'm just a late bloomer, right? And you know who gets to star in movies and have cool books written about them? Late bloomers."

Pulling up her phone, Rose opened up a ride-sharing app. "I think I can get us a ride to the warehouse district, but are you sure we should be the only ones going there? I mean, your powers are awesome, and mine could be too, but emphasis on the word could. Right now, they're not. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to have some backup!" Looking around, Rose groaned as all she could see was more of those annoying jocks fighting against one another. "Times like these make me wish I had a little voice in my head telling me what to do. Would be so much easier."

It seemed like Dennis was slowly listening to reason, but alas, Emma had the upper hand. When the c-word was dropped, his already fragile and broken ego took a tumble down a convenient set of stars, and Hans would be able to see rage filling Dennis' eyes. "You called me WHAT?!" He roared, clenching his fists. "You little shit!" He yelled, running forward and trying to sock Hans right in the eye, just as the other students began surrounding the two and chanting the usual 'fight, fight, fight'.

"Come on, Emma. We got better stuff to do." Curt said, whispering to Emma before slinging an arm around her shoulder, leading her into the school. Class was going to be so much more interesting now that he had someone else to text with.

On the Steps

Once Mirielle let go of Emmanuel, she'd find that instead of letting go, he was holding onto her hand. " Please take me with you. " He pleaded as silently as possible, whilst Ms. Vincent gave a genuinely pleasant smile to Mirielle.

"Of course, dear. Hopefully that'll be enough to make things right." She said, reaching for something inside my purse. "Emmanuel." She snapped at him. "Come with me?"

In her panic Zia somehow didn't notice Vivian Waters, a name she plucked from the voices, rounding the corner in her path. The purple haired-student was knocked back by the clearly saddened girl, reflexes thankfully allowing her to slow in time to not knock them both off their feet. Brayne stumbled back, staring at Vivian in shock, Voices from the... what? The punk's mind was racing, she wanted to keep running but her curiosity kept her feet glued to the ground.

"Y-ye-yeah?" She blurted her reply, eyes flickering as she watched the thought around Waters and found herself automatically delving into her mind in search of answers. When Zia realised what she was doing she quickly recoiled from the thoughts, terrified of what she could do in there. The brought her hand to her head, "Shitshitshit-"

Zia would spot a particular memory brought to Vivian's conscious thanks to her appearance: that of Vivian, yesterday, listening intently to an interview with Crispin Hayward in Sims' Sensational Section, a popular radio program around Oldport.

"No, wait!" Vivian held out her hand, trying to corral Zia into staying in place. "You... you can read minds, can't you? I mean—" She leaned in, lowering her voice to whisper. " You can read minds, right? That's what happened to you after yesterday? I went through the same, and I... and I heard this man, on the radio, he was doing a normal interview, until he suddenly talked to me— "

Vivian leaned back, shaking her head and hands. "I know! Sounds weird, sounds cuckoo, insane, but he talked to me. I swear to god, he talked to me... and he said that if I came here, at this exact time, I'd bump into someone who could read minds, someone called... Zia Brayne. And... that's you. You're here. Oh god." She finished, staring into Zia's eyes, hoping this information would have the same weight for her... and also hoping that she'd be able to shed some light into just what the hell was going on. "Am I going insane?"

Ivy, Suave Escape Time
Ivy smiled and nodded, accepting the handshake and keeping her eye contact away from her. When Jessica admitted that her actions weren't in the best taste, she slowly stopped. Internally, she continued, though. Yes, of course it is, a much stronger Ivy would've said out loud, You're absolutely terrifying! I don't even mean in the way your eyes look, I just mean — n-n-o, I really don't mean that you're...scary, it's just...

Okay, not too much stronger.

Then, perhaps knowing nothing could be done to salvage an introduction like this, Jessica admitted defeat. Ivy looked at her for a few seconds, then around, and toward the hall where there were lots of people and also the long way to her class. Suddenly, that extra minute walk sounded very refreshing.

She only said "Th-Thank you..." before heading off like a leisurely and not-at-all-worried rocket, powerwalking straight down the hall, past Zia and—

Hold on, what did that other girl just say?

Ivy slowed down to a normal walk, not to listen, but to consider. The voice from the radio, she said. At the same time...look, she could see the main hall right in front of her, just a little bit more walking! She didn't have to go and try and figure out a mystery like she was some extremely inadequate teen detective, she just...

...Ivy sighed, much like Jessica had, and turned around. "Were you hear—listening to that one talk show last night, too? C-cr-crispin Hayward."

Zia didn't meet Vivian's gaze, chiefly because she was busy watching her memories play out in the space between them. She wasn't lying about the radio talking to her, though that didn't mean she wasn't wall-licking crazy. It was also distinctly possible that Zia herself had lost her sanity, which was frankly reassuring at this point. Waters seemed to have similar opinions of her own situation, "I, uh... I can hear... voices and, uh." Zia shook herself, struggling to focus on actually looking at the teenager, "I mean, if you've gone bonkers you're not alone?" Brayne offered in a helpful, but disconcerted tone. How the fuck did the radio know I would... Vivian would hear a fragment of the punk's inner monologue pass through her own thoughts.

Distracted from her own near double homicide enough to regain some grip on her surroundings, Zia became keenly aware that they were in an open corridor of a school - one which ould soon have students streaming through it, no doubt, "Hey, look Vivian - Let's..." Zia searched around her for an empty room or somewhere more secluded, "Let's find some place to talk, y-yeah?" She suggested, scratching her neck nervously and guiding Waters towards the nearest safe spot she could think of. She still wasn't precisely keen on being near anyone she could accidentally kill by stubbing her toe, but the future-predicting radio show was a little too strange to walk past. I think that's the only thing that could persuade me to listen to that show...

Then Ivy appeared and Brayne felt another pang of guilt, "For fuck's sake... I nearly killed you Ivy!" Zia took a step back from her, now desperately looking for an escape route, "I could've..." She swore under her breath.

As the conversation turned to the sticky subject that could actually manage to get them all in hot water if things went the wrong way, Finn decided it was time to act before another over-reacting idiot dug them deeper.

"And you expect me to somehow know the answer to that question, in spite of having been nowhere near the scene and having nothing to do with any of this?" he offered up rhetorically, shrugging in a wide, blithe motion, "You're stretching it pretty thin, don't you think?

"But I'll tell you what—" The redhead shed his right-hand glove, pulled out his phone, and thumbed through it for a few seconds as he spoke. "According to my calendar for today, I'm about to be late for first period, and I happen to rather like my first period class."

Getting up from his seat, he stowed his cell in his breast pocket and paced briskly down the aisle toward the stage, and by extension, the principal. Hans Schultz - Vector Alignment

Hans realized the sheer weight behind Emma using that fucking word, that disrespectful and degrading word, on Dennis - someone defined at this moment by his desire for and liking for Emma. Someone who manipulated the circumstances and created a fight so as to leave the situation behind, to avoid discomfort.

I guess you can take the animal out of the jungle, but you can't take the jungle out of the animal. It was...really that believable...

Hans seemed to see Dennis approaching in slow motion, his thoughts a whirlwind of not wanting to be punched, and wanting to stop this fight from getting started - he tried to filter the crowd's noise out...and then found, to his surprise, as his anxiety with the shouts of "fight! Fight! Fight!" started, he simply did not hear the sounds of them any more.

Hans fell backward slightly, realizing this wasn't just the lead up to getting punched, he couldn't hear noises from outside a certain radius.

Dennis closed in and Hans unified his thoughts behind one common goal, one perception, one guiding desire. I don't want this fight to start. I want to stop this fight in seconds of its supposed beginning.

I don't want this kind of life. I don't want to be just Hans the Alt-Right piece of shit. I don't want to be a Neo-Nazi. If I have to defend myself I'll do that, but I don't want this fight! I have to make the decision right now, do I stop this?

I have to make a move!

There was a sudden, sharp whistling noise audible just barely below the clamor of the crowd as Hans' eyes seemed to flicker a brighter blue than normal - and Dennis' hand seemed to smash into an invisible wall.

Hans looked at Dennis - realizing his powers acted up in this moment, stopping the punch outright and if he had to guess it would probably hurt Dennis something fierce. To be exact, the "Vector Wall" had not only stopped the punch, but it sent the kinetic force that would've gone into punching Hans right back through Dennis' whole hand with some added force just as well. In all likelihood, quite a few bones were now broken.

Of course, Hans had no way of knowing in that moment just the kind of damage his power inflicted, so he turned to run.

Darting suddenly and pushing his way through the shouting crowd, Hans started to run away from the occasion. My powers are a lot more than just shaping dirt or water or wind. I-I need to find out what my limits are.

Right now he hoped to find his class and hopefully get there before Dennis caught up to him.

Emma Schultz

"Oh, definitely, studmuffin." As she and Curt started to walk off from the occasion, Emma looked back and happened to see Hans break free of the crowd and her eyes widened slightly as she kept moving with Curt. What in the world? How did he do that?

She didn't let it bother her much, though, and just went along with Curt, unaware to what had just happened and the implications it had.

Emma looked Curt over as they walked to the next class, hoping she would get to know the muscles under that jersey and shirt more familiarly soon.

Well, that took me longer than strictly necessary. Hope I didn't miss any classes while I was faffing around outside. About when I was in sight of the side exit, I suddenly had the random idea to see if I could light up a spark or two again. Didn't seem to want to go for a while, and it wasn't until I dived through at least five different ugly, unhappy memories that I could even get my hands to glow a little. Then I remembered that I, y'know, actually needed to get inside and start my day already, but I couldn't get the bad memories to go away again, so now I've got to start my day off with this black thundercloud hanging inside my head. Wonderful decision making Simon, simply marvellous.

Couple of girls chatting just past the door. No wait, not chatting, more like...urgently whispering to one another, conspiring over something or addressing some secret tragedy. Oh, hello, it's that Isley girl from yesterday, she's joining in the hurried conversation. Something about a radio show, something about...did that girl whisper something about killing? You know what, none of my business. In fact, if it's got anything to do with the lunacy from last night, I would like to make it even less of my business if you so please. Keep walking past the three. Maybe nod with a brief smile to glasses girl just 'cause, y'know, we were both involved in a thing yesterday. Just don't check if she noticed, in fact if I'm not noticed at all so much the better. Just keep walking on, going about my day, and hope they don't try to rope me in to whatever mad little world they're brewing.

And a Strange Figure Emerges.

So this was about Benjy? Jacob actually wasn't entirely aware of the situation, but he did know that this was definitely salvagable. Now, he remembered something about Benjy maybe being a fly or something like that, which would fit quite neatly with acid dissolved vents. This was worrying, and actually kind of shocked him. Knowing that someone was actually turned into an abomination was unsettling. Telling that tale to Shooter would basically roll back any points he might have just gained, and probably leave him even worse off than before.

This left two main options. Tell a complete lie that couldn't really be proven false or deflect the question away from himself through the usage of some truth. The latter seemed far more likely to work. If it came to it, Jacob would be willing to throw out some names of exactly who was in the auditorium. Right now, though, he would rather avoid the anger everyone route.

These thoughts happened pretty quickly, and after a few moments Jacob spoke up with some genuine surprise in his voice. "Benjy is missing? I didn't... I'm so sorry, I would've told you if I knew this was about him. The truth is that I wasn't being completely honest before about when I went to the auditorium, I only lied because I didn't want you to think I was guilty since I was in here before everything was destroyed. I wasn't lying about the vomit though, I really was just trying to get cleaned up. Benjy was in the auditorium when I went in, but I was focused on cleaning myself and just rushed to the bathroom. I was very dirty and also needed to use the bathroom, so I was in there a while. By the time I left... I just thought he went home! I was in there for at least 15 minutes, I had no reason to think something happened to him. I was focusing on the damages and was just..."

At the end there he was starting to actually look very out of breath and just stopped speaking. Jacob definitely looked like someone that just found out someone he had seen only yesterday had gone missing.

Auditorium

As he thought, trying to convince Shooter was a futile effort. No counterargument, no reasoning, just the constant assertion that he was right and they were wrong. "Sorry, sir, I know even less about what happened in the vents than what happened in here." Ciro said, before taking a backseat to the other conversations that were happening. If he kept banging his head on Shooter's brick wall then he really would get ticked off.

Finn was the first to speak after Barbra, offering what information he had after saying twice that he knew nothing. It seemed like such an obvious ploy, but Shooter was so desperate to incriminate someone that Ciro had little doubt that he'd fall for it. He just didn't know whether Finn actually knew something, or if he was planning to throw the rest of them- or Benjy- under the bus.

Speaking of Benjy, the news that something had happened to him- that he was missing, apparently?- was concerning. Ciro didn't even know the guy, but it wasn't hard to imagine how his family must be feeling if he didn't show up last night. His stomach knotted at the mere thought of it.

On the other hand, there wasn't much he could do about it. He didn't know Benjy, or what exactly had happened to him... though, if there were kids in here who actually had been in the auditorium last night...

As Jacob and Finn continued their talk with Shooter, Ciro turned his attention to the student next to him. It now occurred to him that Michal hadn't spoken at all since Shooter came in. He'd been a little freaked before that, so maybe his nerves had gotten the better of him. "Hey," he whispered, still looking forward, "do you know what actually happened to Benjy? I couldn't get a straight answer out of anyone last night."

Near the Steps

As Emmanuel latched onto Mirielle's hands and Ms. Vincent became nothing but a figure in the distance, just nodding to her son as he 'departed for class', the young boy tried his best to keep himself from breaking into tears again, and had to force Mirielle to stop once they were far away enough.

"I'm s-s-s-sorry..." He sobbed, wiping the tears as they flooded over him. "C-c-can you please n-n-n-not tell anyone about w-w-w-what you s-s-saw?" He muttered, seconds away from turning into a full-on crying mess. "I s-s-swear I'll p-p-p-pay you for those c-c-cookies..."

The Corridor

Though most people would be shocked by suddenly hearing another person's voice inside their heads, Vivian Waters seemed incapable of registering any emotion other than 'perpetually down', no matter the tone of what she's saying. "Could you not do that again?" She said with the excitement of a turtle foolishly waggling its little legs at a person holding it by its shell. "I've already got a lot of things in my mind."

As she was opening the door to a currently empty classroom, Vivian looked over at Ivy. "Aren't you the math teacher's kid?" She asked out loud, before turning to Zia. "You're killing teacher's kids? I'm not opposed to that." She said, before turning to Ivy again. "Just a joke." She added, unaware that a smile might have sold the whole 'joke' better and not made it look like she was actually advocating the death of innocent children. "But yeah, that was the guy who talked to me. Crispin Hayward. Some book writer or loser or something like that." She shrugged, looking around for anyone trying to take a peek at what they were doing. "I don't read fantasy or superhero stuff, I've got better things to do with my time-"

"Hey!" She stopped, pointing at Simon, who was walking nearby. "Were you listening in to our conversation, you weirdo?!"

The Auditorium

Jacob's honest answer left Shooter looking rather listless. "Information, Mr. Miller, that's what I need, not more li—" It was then that Finn stood up and offered the motherload of information. "Ah! Seems like you got the right lesson from that whole situation involving your father, Mr. Flannagan." He said, ignoring the other kids in exchange of giving Finn a very satisfied smile. "Alright, I'll do it. And since you're the only one actually interested in telling me the truth, you'll also be the only one not being sent to detention today. What is it, Mr. Flannagan?"

"Think you lost his attention." Barbra muttered to Jacob, glaring holes into Shooter's back. "That idiot is looking for something and, for some reason, he picked us as the people most likely to give him that something. Guess it's gotta have something to do with that rich prick Flannagan." She looked at Jacob, raising one eyebrow. "Say, uh... what exactly happened to Benjy? I'm not on the loop."

"You guys don't know?" Michal piped up, making sure to keep his voice in a whisper loud enough not just for Ciro, but also for Barbra and Jacob to listen. "He... he got stabbed by that smoke too, and it turned him into a fly monster... people say he was two times taller and had wings and two sets of arms and could spit acid. Looked like a real movie monster, y'know?" He winced as he pointed out the hole in the wall. "Last I heard, he had crawled up there and had disappeared... what if he's still on the school? What if... what if he eats someone?"

The Entrance

"Whaaaat theeee fuuuuccccckkk?"

The world seemed to move in slow motion for Dennis as well, as he watched his own bones breaking in front of him, his hand somehow hitting an invisible wall instead of Hans' very punchable face. The crowd around him ooo'ed and winced at the same time, watching as Dennis instinctively covered his hand in pain. "Mmmmmmmmotherfucker! He broke my hand!" He yelled, though the crowd was busy trying to figure out how exactly he had just done that. "Are you people deaf?!" He roared to his friends, a bunch of jersey-wearing jocks. "Get that son of a bitch right the fuck NOW!"

With a group of jocks now hot on his tail, Hans would be forgiven for not looking at the corridor in front of him. But some people were not as willing to let it go, especially the hooded Jessica Hawkins, who bumped right into the fleeing boy at the most inopportune moment. "Hey!" She yelled, not bothering to stop and think as to why Hans was running in the middle of the corridor. "Schultz! Can't you look at where you're running, dipshit?!"

Adam didn't know what was going on, Monsters, what the hell!? he thought as he tried to stay under the radar, sliding closer to hear the conversation. He didn't care that the principle was making eye-contact with them occasionally he only looked to make sure the principle didn't catch on.

He looked to Micheal and spoke up as quietly as he could manage. If there is some sort of fly monster, somebody should go and save him, right?

Hans Schultz

Hans recognized Jessica from that evening when they all obtained their powers, and immediately helped her up regardless of his own circumstance, wincing when she was displeased with getting ran into by him. He promptly looked back behind him and then at Jessica, "Sorry...jocks want to kill me, wasn't looking where I was going...sorry..."

He then looked and saw the approach of Dennis' friends, rapidly approaching from the hall. He knew they were on a war path most likely due to what he did to Dennis, or just because he tried to run from a fight with one of their number. Hans immediately tried to put himself forward between Jessica and them, getting ready.

He didn't enjoy a fight, but he wasn't exactly going to sit back and let this happen. If they honestly couldn't be dissuaded otherwise, he'd have to defend himself. His powers were at his beck and call, too. But he had to use them decidedly defensively. No swords or wind bullets.

Whatever my power is, it can interact with...with anything, I think. Lets try something then.

As they came running for him, his eyes flashed a brighter blue and he drew on wind with a step of his foot - sending a strong gust of wind at his aggressors, strong enough to push them off their feet.

Mirielle, Near The Steps

Mirielle hugged Emmanuel tightly. "I promise I won't! Besides, don't worry about the cookies. It happens." She didn't expect to do the string... thing either.

Finn's offer was, as expected, a complete success. But even knowing that it would work, it was still annoying to have Shooter gloating over them. Ciro sighed. Whatever. An afternoon of detention wasn't terrible- though he'd have to call his neighbour about picking up Elly and Don from school. He'd just have to hope that a detention was the worst that Shooter would do, and that this whole mess wouldn't be reported to his dad.

Right now, though, he had more to worry about than his parent getting involved. He knew what had happened yesterday, but the idea of Benjy becoming some terrifying monster was still a little hard to wrap his head around. Was he still even Benjy? Could he be turned back? Would he really eat someone?

"The workers would've found him if he was hiding in here and was... like that. Or someone would've heard him in the walls." Those were only possibilities, but he didn't say that. The more certain he sounded, the less likely that the others (and Ciro himself) would freak out at the prospect of Benjy lurking in the school. "On the other hand, someone likely would've seen him if he was outside... Unless he knows how to lay low, or we just haven't heard about it."

Adam came over and brought up the idea of saving Benjy, a task that Ciro ordinarily would've left to the police, or some other group with the training necessary to protect themselves and the public. But they'd be going in blind against some giant bug monster. How complicit were Ciro and the others by not telling anyone what really happened to Benjy? If someone got hurt while trying to apprehend him, then the fault would lie at their feet for not letting people know of the danger beforehand. It didn't matter that he hadn't even seen Benjy last night; knowing about him now, and keeping that knowledge from the public, brought with it a responsibility that he couldn't just ignore.

"Adam's got the right idea. I'm gonna ask around once we get out of here, see if any of the other students have seen anything weird. I might get an idea of where Benjy's gone, and also a better idea of which students were here last night." He glanced quickly at the others, before turning back to Shooter and Finn. "Any help would be appreciated."

Sebastian winced at the ‘voice in my head’ thing. Fesxis didn’t say anything, but instead died laughing at the cruel, cruel irony. “”Getting some backup would probably be good,” he admitted.

“We have to learn how to use our powers and stuff,” he pointed out. “From what I’ve heard about him, Benjy used his new abilities and stuff to escape, so he can probably do stuff on instinct- not to mention, if he can’t think for himself, he could see us as invading our territory, and attack.”

Not to mention, killing him will be much easier in a group. I would recommend taking along your friend Zia. Taking along Jessica could be a very good or a very bad idea, depending on if her voice will work on Benjy. Bringing the former gang-member- Hans, I believe- would also be a good idea, as he seems to know how to fight.

Sebastian, who had seemed to pause for a moment as he listened to the actual voice in his head, spoke up. “Uh… taking along Zia and Hans would be a good idea,” he suggested. “Zia can do mind stuff. I think she was able to track him, right…? And Hans can fight, I think. Not to mention he seems like a guy you’d want on your side.”

As he said that, Sebastian glanced at Hans. Things were escalating fast- and suddenly, Dennis was charging at Hans. Frozen, the teenager watched things happen. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from the scene- it was like watching a trainwreck.

Hans’ eyes seemed to flicker for a moment- had it been his imagination?- and suddenly, Dennis punched something that didn’t appear to be there. There was a very audible crack and a likewise audible curse, and Dennis yelled something about his hand being broken. And than things went even further to hell, and Hans took off with the jocks pursuing him.

Hmm. A barrier. His eyes flashed when he created it; can he manipulate matter? Air? I wonder how he did that.

“.... Ok, now I really want to take Hans.”
