Persona 5 ALT: Sign Ups

The year 2016.

Daniel Brandton wins the Presidential Election in a surprise turnaround victory, dismaying many due to his hardline nationalistic policies and militaristic tone, with his daughter Eva becoming a fixture in the White House as an adviser.

For a group of students in a small town called Dunham, located in Virginia, however, the election of Brandton represents a start point to a most unexpected adventure.

One night as they go home from detention for a variety of reasons, they find themselves standing at the gates of not a school but a castle, radiating a strange light. For them, this is the start of something far beyond the accepted normality that they know.

So, thus I am starting one of two new RP's that I am beginning this month - the Persona 5 Western Version. This roleplay will involve some pretty heavy political themes, and a dissection of the American Psyche and the ugliest warts on the seemingly pristine American Dream.

Some of the people involved have their names changed, purely to help with the creative process.

This RP will take mostly from Persona 5, though there will be some influence from both Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment installments of Persona 2. There won't be that much canon connection to previous Persona games, though some cameos might happen.

...And hey, given how common a trope it is, you might get to beat up a sun glasses clad resurrected German despot for a certain side mission.

As for some general info, given how in the original game the first two characters are tied to Kamoshida, here is some info on the first antagonist. Ian Sommers, star of the High School Football Team - he is seen by many, himself included, as a Prince of the School, a dashing, handsome dark haired adonis. Yet behind closed doors, he exercises his lust upon the women of the school - there are a few rumors that a hazing ritual for new head cheerleaders involves "pleasing the prince", among other disturbing experiences. His desires and wanton nature are out of control, yet so few know...

• Name: Katie Lindsberg
• Age: 18
• Gender: Female
• Appearance: Behind the wheel with her girlfriend Rachel. Usually wears faded red in her clothes, with hints of blue here and there.
• Personality: She's a complicated girl, this Katie. Generally speaking, she's the type to butt heads with whoever/whatever upsets her or upsets others. Always willing to help a guy in need, she nevertheless often gets in trouble when trying to bail others out of it on account of her short temper and stubborness that would make a mule uneasy. She's extremely protective of her girlfriend and can flip her lid if someone slights her. Whenever there is no one out there to help out, she prefers to slack and take the life as it goes as an adherent to "hakuna matata" philosophy. By her own admission, kind of an idiot.
• Reason for Detention: Put one of Sommers' toadies into a trash can when defending a helpless victim of bullying. Sommers made sure to add an extra humiliating spice to Katie's detention, of course, but she remains nonplussed.
• Backstory: The only child of a mechanic and a police officer, Katie has lived in Dunham all her life. With a reputation of a slacker who'd rather count clouds in the sky than do such trivial things like studying, she nevertheless was regarded in some parts of their community as "that girl who stands up for the smaller guy". (the bigger guys instead saw her as an annoying obstacle). That's how she had met her girlfriend two years ago. Rachel, the eldest daughter of an extremely traditional Christian couple, found herself falling for her savior which, of course, did not go well with her parents. It got rather dire; she was chased away from home as an embarrassment and disinherited. Katie stood up for her once more and let her stay at her place - her parents didn't mind, the magnanimous folk. It was agreed that Rachel would attend another school however, mostly to avoid bullying and her parents' ire. She and Katie remain a happy couple, and both helped each other in making the other better too. Now, if only that jock Sommers stopped taking so much interest in the poor bookworm...

• Brief History: A peasant girl who heard the angels and, on God's command, led French forces to liberate her country from the English grasp. Burned on stake as a witch, but was later vindicated as a hero, then canonized as the patron saint of France.

• Name: Jessie Eisenberg (no relation)
• Age: 17
• Gender: F
• Appearance: Kinda buff, secretly.◊ Jessie is 5'8.
• Personality: Jessie works by the motto that "a lot of people say that someone should do something, and rarely do they follow it up that that someone is me." She believes in taking charge and of trying to achieve a justice she's proud of, and damn the consequences. She is not very compromising, and will somewhat self-righteously hold past sins over someone if they are not properly renumerated. Jessie knows exactly who the fuck Lenin is, and is uncomfortable using him knowing the way his legacy was twisted. She'd much prefer like a Patrice Lumumba or a Toussaint Louverture, but what can you do? She goes for the nuclear option very quickly in all conflicts, whether that's a fight or an argument, trying to end things before they can escalate.
• Reason For Detention: Distributing literature without permission—specifically a pamphlet called "'THE SHAM OF STUCO''' that outlined the student council's heavy faculty oversight and the illusion that they actually had any real control over school actions.
• Backstory: Jessie was born and raised in Dunham, the child of two Poli Sci professors at the local college. At a young age her parents corralled her rebelliousness by giving it outlets elsewhere, telling her that her anger was valid if she could figure it out and control it, rather than let it control her. Her anger didn't make her many friends though, and Jessie stuck to books and jogging for the most part. She got into her parents' books in particular, eventually, and found out all about the rise and fall of all these big important revolutionaries—that for all their effort they would fall to evil from within or without. That made Jessie angry, and galvanized her even more. Specifically people in the global south, already with their backs to the wall, being driven to do even worse from any number of other factors. She started working out more, and started taking charge more and more whenever she saw something bad—picking fights and stuff. That was how she ended up in detention, though, too.
• Persona:
  • Name: Lenin
  • Appearance: Lenin is a humanoid Persona with his right half rent away with a jagged tear, missing a lower jaw. The top of the face is rounded and has a curved yellow visor with one red eye, and a handle coming out the side to make it a sort of sickle shape. The left half of the body that remains is clad in a stylized winter coat with a big frill, perpetually burning away. He carries a sledge hammer, also in that slick metal material all personas appear to be made out of.
  • Brief History: Lenin was a pivotal revolutionary and scholar critical to the formation of the USSR. He promoted ideals of statist communism and revolution, working alongside classical Marxism to define a future for the country. During the Cold War after his death, Lenin was virtually deified into a cult of personality, equal parts big brother, grandfather, and messiah.

• Name: David Kensington

• Age: 16

• Gender: Male

• Appearance: Not as scary as he looks◊. David is 6'4, and is in peak physical shape. Normally wears a dark blue shirt and jeans.

• Personality: Due to his intimidating appearance, reserved nature and tendency of having to fight bullies trying to beat him up, David doesn't have the friendliest of reputations in school. However once you get past that, he has a generally easygoing friendly personality, and is fiercely loyal to the friends he makes. David does have a violent temper, although he does his best to rein it in. In his free time he likes to read or train at the gym.

• Reason for Detention: Broke Ian Sommers' nose when the jock was was harrassing one of the newer cheerleaders- who was visibly uncomfortable with the situation- then tried to cop a feel of her butt.

• Backstory: Born and raised in Dunham, David's the eldest of three siblings. Due to his natural glare and short fuse, David would often get in fights with school bullies, resulting in his parents recommending him to taking Martial arts in order to defend himself. It turned out to be a good decision, as he learned to control his anger and was able to better defend himself from attackers, but on the other hand, earned him the unwanted reputation of being a brutal fighter.

Persona:

• Name: Oda Nobunaga

• Appearance: A black and silver robotic humanoid clad in plate armor. Its head resembles a Samurai helmet and mask, with a glowing red visor. It weilds an arquebus in one hand, and a katana in the other.

• Brief History: Oda Nobunaga is regarded as one of the three great unifiers of Japan, alongside Hideyoshi and Ieyasu. He is famous for his ruthlessness and brutal suppression of his opponents. Nobunaga was also a skilled ruler, businessman and economist, strategizing in both the micro-economic and macro-economic scale. He met his end at Honno-ji, when his retainer Akechi Mitsuhide betrayed him.

  • Zio-Deals light electric damage to one enemy, with a small chance of inflicting paralysis.

• Name: Roger "Blade" Baye
• Age: 17
• Gender: Male
• Appearance: Roger is tall, at 6'2, and fairly thin. He's got some muscle from his job and working out off and on, but he's not gonna be tearing phone books in half anytime soon. He's got brown hair with highlights in it, and hazel eyes. In terms of clothing, he usually likes clothes with lots of pockets, and has a thing for the color red. gallery
• Personality: Roger is very friendly and outgoing. He's often the first person new students talk to. Usually asking them to play Devil Summoner or some game with tops. He's sometimes the butt of jokes, but he takes it in stride. He's got a sense of justice lifted straight from Saturday morning cartoons, and sometimes gets in trouble for fighting. Usually, though, he likes to play different kind of games. He likes tabletop RP Gs, card games, video games...He even runs the school's gaming club. His favorite is a card game called Devil Summoner, and his dream is to be a pro Devil Summoner player. He's also enjoys building models. Particularly, he likes model guns, and could be considered a firearm enthusiast. He does not own any actual guns.
• Reason for Detention: He was having a Beyblade battle in the halls, and one of his Beyblades got away. Ian Sommers tripped over it, giving him a black eye. The principal smashed his favorite beyblade and threatened to shut down Gaming Club.
• Backstory: Roger Bayes was born to a single parent household. His mom died when he was too young to remember her. So it's just him and his father. His dad owns a small auto repair shop. They've never been particularly wealthy, and dad isn't around much. They still had a good relationship. His father was into building models, and that's probably why Roger is all about something. When he was 14, he started helping at the auto shop. Recently, he's been refurbishing an old motorcycle.

• Name: Abrams
• Appearance: A large cone, covered in metal plates and constantly spinning on it's tip at high speed. It has retractable guns and blades all over it.
• Brief History: The M1 Abrams is the main battle tank of the United States Army, and it's easy to see why. It's uranium armor is nearly impenetrable, and it has a M256 smoothbore gun can fire a wide array of rounds. For it's size, it's surprisingly mobile, able to navigate nearly any terrain and go at speeds of up to 60 MPH.

• Name: Crystal Thomas
• Age: 17
• Gender: Female
• Appearance: Crystal is short, boyish with short silver hair. She tends to wear loose clothing-dresses and the like, not enjoying pants and the like. She's got a few bruises and black-eyes due to getting into fights.
• Personality: Crystal is, if anything, explosive. She's in a new school and has had some bad experiences in her last high school. Any comments on her appearance will generally result in Jacky trying to punch someone's face in, she requires anger issues and has embraced her identity as a bit of an anarchist-she's also a bit of a pyromaniac.
• Reason For Detention: Fight
• Backstory: Crystal was born Christopher, but that never fit her. So, she changed. Unfortunately, it's hard to reinvent yourself in a place where everyone knew where you are. So, Crystal got bullied and eventually, she began to fight back. Lashing out and unfortunately, she hasn't dropped this as she moved to this new school.
• Persona:
  • Name: Guy Fawkes
  • Appearance: A large, slender figure. Guy Fawkes has no legs, instead, he seems to be rising out of a gun powder barrel. He wears a Black cape and has four arms all ending in white gloves. Two hold cartoonish bombs, one a noose and the other a flintlock pistol. For a face, he has a gug Fawkes mask and a large stovepipe hat as tall as he is that billows smoke out like a chimney.
  • Brief History: I see no reason by the gunpowder treason, should ever be forgot. As man and man did conspire, to burn a court like a pyre, alas a coward cried out and a man got caught, by noose round neck he was Bourne.

I'm also hoping to join the game, and I've already gotten a character well along the way. However, I was originally planning to do a character with a Persona associated with the Justice Arcana. Are you willing to have two of the same Arcana, so long as the Personas themselves are different? Or will I need to start over?

• Name: Martin Mobile
• Age: 17
• Gender: Male
• Appearance: Martin's a tall boy, slender/lanky in build, with long legs and delicate pianist hands. His skin is slightly tan, his eyes are murky green, and his features are somewhat feminine, pretty even, complimented by a long, often dyed, head of hair
• Personality: To say Martin's flamboyant would be selling him short, to him the world is a stage, life's a play, the people in it either actors to play against or an audience to entertain, he of course is the starring actor. His speech is flowery, purple and prone to wax poetic, his gestures full of flair and grace, he always seems to play to a crowd. Of course this is mostly for other's benefit, he likes the attention, but he likes the enjoyment of the crowd better, it feels him with glee, it is the thing he lives for. He does a have a quiet side, but that is reserved for close friends and family.
• Reason For Detention: Jealousy; that is to say Mr. Sommers can't handle being upstaged by a true prince, Martin got sent here for 'disturbing the class'.
• Backstory: Martin is the son of a jazz club owner, Mr. Johannes Mobile and street performer turned club performer, Helga Bisbe(better known as Hellion B). Even considering Martin had a normal upbringing, and he was a rather average boy... until he discovered his own performative talents and blossomed into a dashing young man in high school. His reputation as 'Prince' although Martin would prefer other titles at times, has been rising ever since.

• Name: Little Prince
• Appearance: A small figure, with a golden visored astronaut helmet, a green coat with a star on each lapel, a white jumpsuit/space suit below, with green boots and gloves. On his right hand rests a foil, with a holographic guard and a blade like a giant's needle.
• Brief History: A little boy who lives in an asteroid, do you know his story? He traversed the stars, visited weird lands, but weirdest of all a planet called earth. When his adventure was over he went back to the stars, seeking his rose. I bet if you see closely, you can see him in the night's sky.
• Arcana: Star(too on the nose?)
• Skills:
  • Lucky Punch: Minuscule Physical Damage High crit chance to one foe. Manifests as a jab from a now glowing foil.
  • Dazzler: High chance to inflict Dizzy on one foe. Manifests as Little Prince's visor dropping for a second revealing a flash of bright light.
  • Rakunda: Decreases a foe's defence. Manifests as a gale of cosmic air from behind Little Prince that erodes the foe's defence

• Name: Lucas Schwartz
• Age: 16
• Gender: Male
• Appearance: Tall and lean yet athletic. His normally dark hair (currently dyed a bright blue) is in desperate need of a trim, and often falls over his icy blue eyes. He dresses casually often, with dark grey or black t-shirts and jeans being a common ensemble for him. On colder days, though, he wears a 1940's-styled bomber jacket that was a gift from his father.
• Personality: On the surface, he looks like he's a stoic model student. Always doing well in class, no detentions up to now, and always quiet. However, those close to him can always tell when he's happy or upset or other strong emotion, and can say he's quite the softie once you get to know him. Most disturbing, however, is that he cares very little about his well-being, pushing himself to his limits and being impossibly hard on himself whenever he messes up.
• Reason For Detention: Unusually-colored dyed hair is strictly prohibited by the school rulebook, and Luke not only coming into school with bright blue hair but denying he had blue hair when school officials warned him about it bought him detention for the day. Lucas doesn't know what exactly happened, but he knew his hair was fine before his shower that morning, and it didn't escape his notice that it happened after he caught Ian trying to force himself on a cheerleader.
• Backstory: Once, Lucas was a boy in New Orleans who wanted to become a detective. Maybe it was because he looked up to his father, who juggled working long hours in the police department with raising him and his sister, or maybe he just read too many mysteries. No matter the initial reason, though, soon the mental image of himself making the world a better place wouldn't leave him, and soon he was delving into his studies, developing skills he felt would help with detective work. But a horrible car crash would bring that to a halt. Not only did he lose his sight, but his father died and his sister also followed him. To make matters worse, a culprit was found, but a technicality resulted in the case being thrown out and the guy walking free. Lucas ended up being shipped to his godmother with his sister, bitter and depressed and feeling without purpose. It's been several months since, and he claims he has moved on, but those close to him are worried about him.

  • Appearance: An elongated, featureless humanoid of charcoal grey. He wears a brown cloak-like thing as well as gloves and a monocle on a chain. The part of the chain closest to the monocle is stiffer and painting gold, giving the monocle a resemblance to a magnifying glass.
  • Brief History: The famous detective from Sir Arthur Conan’s stories. A consulting detective who uses observation, logical reasoning, and forensic science to solve mysteries.
