Steamed oats? Oatmeal?
Steampunk Venom is a book I would read.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I really do wonder who the villain is in this. I also get the feeling we won't get full Venom throughout the movie..
35 year old white man.You mean, is there a Man Behind the Man of the evil corporation coming after Eddie Brock? Or that they gotta have some sort of villain who can match Venom in power? Maybe they have another symbiote sample, and this movie will be Venom vs Carnage.
The trailer shows multiple test subjects. They seem to all be failures, but presumably they're going to be relevant. My guess is they'll be low-level symbiote enemies like the "zombies" in Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. And then in the stinger we'll see Carnage.

We do see a second symbiote in a canister on the truck. I'm guessing the Life Foundation symbiotes (Agony, Phage, Riot, Lasher and Scream) or Hybrid or some expy of thereof.
If they are bothering to draw from the whole Life Foundation thing, it's the obvious way to go.

There are loads of movies Villain Protagonists and Nominal Heroes as well - not quite as often, but it does happen. Again, it's not unheard of and its certainly not something that's impossible.
In fact, personality and narrative wise comics Eddie Brock is actually rather typical of the Hollywood Anti-Hero: "badass" and "cool," but also deeply flawed and selfish with a desire to have his cake and eat it to, which ultimately causes him to ruin his own life. He's well poised for a "tries to get everything he wanted, loses everything he had" story.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. It wouldn't even be that difficult to make him a bit more sympathetic but still ultimately a horrible and deeply flawed man, if that was a concern.
The trailer makes him seem like a normal decent guy but it is just a trailer...
35 year old white man.Featuring Venom as: Jack the Ripper.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."@known unknown true but how many of those films are both critically and financially successful though? Like I said, antiheroes are very different from villain protagonists.
Not really fond of the Venom in there. If only coz it really doesn't make sense for Eddie Brock Venom's symbiot suite to be a dapper suit and hat thing.
The other ones are cool though
As someone who liked Spider-Man 3, even I admit Tom Hardy is a better choice to play Eddie Brock/Venom than Topher Grace was
I've read this and the works page for the movie, and I guess I'm just a weirdo, because I disagree with...just about everything.
I think severing the tie between Venom and Spider Man is an interesting take. What could bond Eddie and the symbiote if you take away mutual hatred of Spider Man? What goals do they have if you take "kill spider Man until he dies from it" off the table? They seem to start off pretty adversarial, how do they learn to coexist peacefully, if not actually become...friends? Partners? I don't really know how to define the relationship between Eddie and the symbiote.
I'm glad they don't have the white spider symbol on their chest, because in this scenario it makes no sense. I also disagree with the 'easter egg' idea of having it appear after they Spider Man on the news, because why? What purpose would that serve, other than blatant pandering to people complaining about the lack of symbol (people who wouldn't appreciate the gesture, btw; instead they'd whine about how if they were going to introduce Spider Man anyway they should've just done the 'right' story, god Sony you suck...)?
And lastly, I have no problem with Tom Hardy's accent; I didn't notice anything strange about the way he sounded. But like I said, all of the above are just personal opinions, and I understand those are different for everybody. And I seem to be the site oddball, so.
I am a fellow oddball then as I agree with most of that. I am interested to see how they present a Venom with our a Spider-obsession (though I do admit said obsession was a huge part of his comic iteration, this is not the comics) and no Spider-Man means the white spider would be fanservice.
Plus removing him from the more family friendly Spidey franchise means they can really ramp up the horror and violent elements of Venom. When he went "Lethal Protector" he was basically the Punisher with superpowers instead of firepower. There's potential in that.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Kinda related to Spider-Man and Sony and so I figured it should go here.
Mileena MadnessThe thing is though, the VFX on the suit is the only thing that this film has going for it based on the trailers. I think it's plausible that you could make a Venom solo movie and have it be interesting, but the trailers just make this movie look like a bog standard dour thriller/horror movie that just happens to have Venom in it.
Possible Silk movie?
This might stem from my watching videos on the Mighty No. 9 fiasco last night, but if this is true, then this is just yet another case of "going too big too soon." Again, Venom still has a few months to go before release and unless someone can really see into the future, no one from Sony or otherwise can know for sure if that movie is going to sell gangbusters or not.
For all they know, this could be the Dark Universe affair all over again.
Probably due to really wanting a slice of that deliciously profitable MCU pie without proper consideration of how/why it worked so well. Would not be the first time that's happened...
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."@jakobitis: Can I just say how tickled I am at how often your avatar matches the tone of your posts? Makes me smile every time.
That was at least part of the reason I chose it if I'm honest!

No, no, I said steambyotes.
