…If Shokudou works, I wonder if that will pave the way for an adaptation of Nobunaga no Chef. >.>

I am not sure Shokudou is going to work, based on the opening they were clearly aiming for the Koufuku Graffiti crowd then had 10 minutes of Bara dudes fight over food. Any audience would have tuned right out.

I personally wasn't a fan cause the actual eating had no impact. The big thing with Koufuku Graffiti and Food Wars and yada is the act of eating is exquisitely shot and orgasmic.. nothing like that was here, instead it was just static long distance shots and seemed to focus on the dragon lady's boobs more than the food.

? the Koufuku Graffiti crowd is CGDCT fans. I don't see how the OP would play to that

I do agree that the animators seem to be under the impression that it's a bishoujo series, not a food one, though. The girls are hot but the meals are lukewarm

Watch the OP again it's all cute girls ogling food or serving food, the Chef shows up exactly twice at the end and all other guys are in wide shots only. That's what I meant.

And yeah everything I had read about this was a food series not cute girls working at a cafe, the latter has been done a lot.

First things first— dropping Hina Logi:

First episode impressions

  • Battle Girl High School: Pretty much like Hina Logi, and Schoolgirl Strikers from before. Though it is better than those two, but only by an iota. Still not good enough to bother with. Dropped.
  • Kakegurui: The source material is on the lower end as far as gambling stories go, but the anime adaptation lays on dollops of style and it helped me enjoy it more. This will be a meme generator especially if the anime nails the... passionate faces the characters make in subsequent episodes. Overall improves on the manga, but I'll probably still drop it, the manga's more than enough.
  • Symphogear: Freaking cool, and the kind that doesn't care how over the top it gets. Megadeth Infinity! Then Hibiki uses Bajiquan to parry tank shells. Then that ridiculous moment when a couple of girls open the doors of the helicopter they're riding on so a missile won't hit them. It's Symphogear, all right. Only niggle is that I'm not finding any of the songs catchy so far.
  • Koi to Uso: Let's be honest, there's no way to take this seriously. A setting where a practically dystopian government decides your love life for you (very punctually, I must add) would fit something like a comedy, or a gritty cynical cyberpunk show, or heck even an action shonen (shout out to U19, which while generic still executes this concept better), but in trying to play it for serious relationship drama it comes off as comical. Especially since the so-called love of the male lead is extremely superficial. The only reason it's not boring is because it's fun to pick on it. And Kana Hanazawa is always a plus.
  • Knights and Magic: Typical isekai plot except this one panders to mecha fans, and that little difference does wonders. The guy's passion for giant robots is endearing. Who can blame him, giant robots are cool as heck. It does move way too fast though; I actually read the corresponding manga chapters shortly after watching the episode, and the manga spends more time on worldbuilding, especially on cool stuff like the build of the Silhouette Knights and more in-depth look into the programming-esque magic system, and just overall has a better flow. But I do understand why the studio wanted to hook the audience in right away by getting to the mecha fights ASAP. Overall, pretty neat!
  • Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou: Mostly just getting the premise out of the way. Bit of a weak premiere, to be honest. But I'd encourage anyone on the fence to at least get to know some of the zanier dorm residents that'll show up in the next episode.
  • Fate/Apocrypha: The Holy Grail War, Team Deathmatch Edition? Count me in! If the opener is anything to go by, there's no need to worry about the action side, and I quite like how bloody it seems to be. Verdict pending for the characters, but they look interesting. Just not sure how different this AU is, since Waver still ended up becoming El Melloi apparently?

So yeah, time for some first impressions:

Hina Logi: As I said it's a very... confused spin-off of Luck & Logic series, that seems to jump into an completely different genre and ascetic which is just weird. As far as CGDCT shows go, it's not half bad, and I'm kinda curious if it's going to actually get more serious late. Follow.... for now

Kakegurui: Another one in the genre of school with silly gimmicks that are treated as a serious businesses. I enjoyed the first episode because I came in expecting silliness and by god I've got it. The amount of ham produced by the first episode alone could feed a small nation. It was glorious. Follow

Knight's & Magic: A magical mecha school isekai. If it also becomes a harem we'll reach maximum density of popular genres. I liked the first episode well enough, even though it's obvious they were rushing to get to the mecha action. Follow

Fate/Apocrypha: Hell yeah baby Fate is back! This time in one of the most bombastic incarnations of the franchise. Expect less navel gazing and more Crazy Awesome. Definitely Follow

Isekai Shokudou: A transdimensional restaurant? Great idea! I love how diverse the clientele is. The atmosphere sure is cozy and the girls are cute. What's not to like? Follow

So that's all this season's shows that I watched so far. Amazingly I'm not dropping any yet. Is there something else I should check out?

I actually rather liked Isekai Shokudou's first episode. We'll see how it keeps up, I suppose, but Aletta is cute and I really needed a half-hour of pleasant no-brain activity today.

One thing that pleasantly surprised me was that the dragon queen immediately accepted Aletta as worthy of her protection, instead of turning into a tiresome jealousy plot or something. Here's hoping that Master lets Aletta sleep in the kitchen or something instead of sending her back home to sleep in dirty hay every night.

^If what you say is true and Apocrypha is Fate without (or with less) of Nasu's signature aggressive word vomit, count me in.

Though it's a real pity that this is Saber of Red and not Red Saber.

Oh man, Kakeguri is going to provide me with an endless amount of reaction faces and I'm fucking giddy over it.

The actual content of the Anime is rather standard "Out Keikaku'd" you see in a lot strategy Anime, but the HAM makes it hilarious.

I might have missed it, but has anyone actually licensed Fate/Apocrypha?

And while I liked Issekai Shokudou, did that beef stew the dragon queen get not look like an actual stew to anyone else. It looked like a bunch of meat and vegetables sitting in a sauce while a stew implies being cooked in the sauce (hence the term stewing).

It looked like Nikujaga, Japanese Beef Stew, which is simmered in soy, sugar, sake and mirin till almost all liquid boils away and not actually stewed.

It tends to come out looking and being served like that.

Netflix has it and will be releasing the first half on November 7th so a little over four months from now if you want to wait and watch it legally. Otherwise you'll have to use fansubs.

Hina Logic from Luck & Logic Episode 2: Decent episode though it's a bit all over the place. Still, it's cute though and I don't have much against it other than that.

Restaurant to Another World Episode 1: This is nice. It reminds me of Shokugeki no Souma but without all the fanservice or hotbloodedness. The art is great and it makes me want to try the food in the show out just like Shokugeki does. I still need to get more of a feel for the cast but this is still a decent watch. Will follow.

AhoGirl was delightfully stupid. Ends up doing a role reversal where the female lead is the Idiot Hero Pervert while the male lead is the Tsundere Childhood Friend.

I've had Nikujaga and it's didn't look like that either. Basically the meat looked very rare and stewed, simmered or whatever that cauliflower would not have been that white

Ok I expected Aho Girl to be more like Estelle & Joshua's dynamic in The Legend Of Heroes Trails In The Sky, where the girl was the Genki Girl, with side of idiot, Boke and the guy was the Tsukkomi.

But holy crap Yoshiko is literally drooling stupid... I mean it's taking it way way too far to the point it's insulting and not funny.

First episode impressions

  • Isekai Shokudou: Off to a great start. It always warms the heart to see people enjoy good food, especially those who are down on their luck like poor adorable Aletta. It's also quite interesting that their apparent other-world benefactor is a draconic queen, and I'd love to know more about how that even happened. She's a pretty cool lady; for a minute there I thought she was going to try to drive out Aletta but she actually just casts some sort of protective spell on her, no questions asked. That was cool. I also have questions, like how is Nekoya open to both Earth and the fantasy world at the same time, or is there a schedule, or what. Another thing that caught my attention is that it's probably the only food-based anime/manga that I know that doesn't actually explain the recipe, but that might change later on. Anyway, I'm ready for a second course!
  • Tsurezure Children: A bunch of rom com skits condensed into half a regular episode, and it works! It's super cute, and considerably funnier than I expected. My favorite pairing will have to be Minagawa and Furuya, because Minagawa is practically Raphiel down to the glorious HanaKana voice, but the other couples are far from shabby. Give it a shot guys!
  • Nanamaru Sanbatsu: Because it's a rule that manga can tackle anything, here we get quiz bowl as a sports anime. Average, maybe even a bit below average as far as the genre goes, but I like competitive quizzing, and they got the must-buzz-fast part right. Will also probably be worth it for the oodles of useless trivia (... I like knowing things). As an aside, the VA for the lead girl doesn't sound like a seiyuu, or is probably a newbie, but her natural-sounding voice is actually sort of refreshing.

Aho Girl seems like it's going to be a very repetitive and not at all memorable show. Like, 60% of the first episode was like:

Yoshiko: "words"

A-Kun: "ur dum"

Nana Maru San Batsu: Finally found it - an activity that even anime can't make exciting - turns out it's Quiz Bowls. Or maybe it's just this anime that fails to do The main character is very wimpy and boring which is also a problem. Also the heroine has such weird voice acting it almost sounds like she has a lisp. I'll give it one more episode to try to win me over.

…So Netsuzou Trap episode 1 was just an 8 minute short. With a third-world budget. I expected the story to be entertainingly bad, but it turns out everything is bad. Wow.
