What is your view on the fundamental nature of morality? Is it Universal- that is to say, the same everywhere and applicable to everyone at all times? Or, is it Particular- differing between individuals, dependent on perspective?

This is a question that has fascinated me for some time, and I think it's an important one. Certainly it's relevant to many goings-on, both in the United States and internationally. Also, I think it would make for some spirited debate.

This is not to say I'm opposed to more general discussions of morality, but I wanted to kick it off with a specific question to get things going. So, between the two, which do you subscribe to, and why do you profess to hold that position?

Not to say that this isn't a worthwhile topic, but we've already done it several times before, notably here and here.

Another rehash seems kind of pointless.

Take it to the philosophy thread. You'll get more responses there, anyway.

I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.
