Oh, shit...
"Mila, come on. It's going to be okay, we're going to find her. You know you're not alone in being against the tournament. We won't do it, you know we won't. We're going to be fine."
... Yeah. We'll be fine, right? There's nothing to gain from this.

Long live the New Bev.Meanwhile Jack was getting his ass kicked by Exshiv as Exshiv shifted in and out of his Blade and Shield forms to parry Jack's Metal Claws
Exshiv: No no, that's not proper swordsmanship! Act as if your Metal Claws are an extension of your arm, not your hand.

The League of Heroes"I just... ugh, you're right. I'm sorry for snapping, but I don't think I can handle the thought of voluntarily submitting ourselves to even more combat and pain, or even worse leaving some of us behind to do it. I just hate how people talk about it like it's decided... gah. I hate feeling powerless, but I don't want to be left alone. I'm sorry..."
Mila's anger is winding down, and she's fighting to keep herself from breaking down into depression. Now isn't the time for her to take up more of the spotlight yet again.
I need to update these things more often[I slow down and fall back into the group, looking down and away from the others.]
"...Mila's...she's right. We've gotten enough fighting as is, more than what looks to be normal here. Some of us are, are tired of it, some of us aren't, that's a, a fair assumption to make."
[I zero in on the horizon.] "But we got things we need to do. We can...practice and hone our skills on our own time, but right now, we got to do something, we got someone else we need to be looking after, for, fuck."
"It's okay, it's okay. You're not powerless. You have just as much say in this as anyone else."
Finley turns to the rest of the group.
"Hey, listen. I'm with Mila and the others on this. We cannot do this. There's nothing to gain for now."

*Voxno-V finally catches up with the group as Finley discusses the tournament, and simply states* Pardon my absence. As for the tournament...obviously it would be inadvisable, but I suspect the temptation is too much for me to dissuade you with logic. *actually, Voxno knows so from cursory mind reads*
I can only recommend that you make a concerted effort not to sink into a primal state. News of the condition has surely spread throughout the island, and certain visible symptoms may be well known where we are going.
Current WHABP alts: Jani (Sarah) the Purrloin, Hudson the Togetic. Tilly/Lilly (Digletts) are being Put on a Bus."Niles, please!" Finley runs after him, trying to catch up.
"Come on, be reasonable about this. Training can wait!"

I should make sure they do not end up lost. *Voxno pursues Finley from a distance, intending only to help guide them back to the road while maintaining distance, floating up to see past the smokescreen*

Current WHABP alts: Jani (Sarah) the Purrloin, Hudson the Togetic. Tilly/Lilly (Digletts) are being Put on a Bus.[A mental bubble pops. On queue from the others, I see Niles storming off.]
"Hey, dude, wait!" [I rush after him and get caught in the Smokescreen. Coughing and gagging, eyes watering, I try and clear through the smoke, waving my arms to shoo it away, all the while still moving in the same direction I saw Niles go in.]
Exshiv chuckles as Jack finally learns proper Metal Claw form.
Exshiv: Well done Jack, you seem to be a quick learner! But that's merely the first half of the lesson. Now for the second half of the lesson: disarming your opponent! Since our "swords" are attached to our bodies, let's just pretend that they're not just for the sake of the lesson.
The League of HeroesMila feels the urge to follow the others, but recognizes that she's not going to be able to help at this point, after the damage she's done. All she can do is watch, and worry.
Great, now Finley has to go and clean up the mess I made. God damn it... why am I still so preoccupied with her at a time like this? It's not helping anyone that I want her to stick around here... it's just selfish. Don't do it, Mila. Don't break down. Nobody needs to see this.

*Voxno floats high in the canopy, able to track the fires on the larger Quilava's back, but not making its presence known*
Current WHABP alts: Jani (Sarah) the Purrloin, Hudson the Togetic. Tilly/Lilly (Digletts) are being Put on a Bus.Finley is stopped by the smokescreen, unable to see anything. All she can do is stop. Stop and think.
She knew who he was. She knew him. And now he's gone.
"Please come back..."
Long live the New Bev.The party seems to be getting much closer to the barricade... close enough for a Pawniarmy Magnezone, patrolling overhead, to spot the smokescreen and the commotion going on beneath it. The flying magnet-ship, its eyes narrowed, wastes no time hurtling towards the barricade and approaching the Sergeant-Major.
"Sir. P-M-044 reporting."
"Sitrep?"
"Affirmative. Sir. Activity detected. Smokescreen detected. Approximately six individuals. Straying off designated path to containment barricade. High chance of infection. Existing protocol dictates action. Alter?"
"Alter," the SgtMaj. said tapping a blade-hand on the reinforced wooden barrier in front of him. "Hold off. Orders are to stay put. Do not stray from the containment zone while on the ground. Let them come to us, so the Beldum can screen them up-close-and-personal. Is that understood?"
"Affirmative. Sir. Resuming standard patrol..."

Those sell-by-dates won't stop me because I can't read!

"That's exactly my point! It's irresponsible to go off on a tournament when we're already busy enough with fighting as it is. Do you want more people to get hurt? I didn't realize trying to take care of people's safety was suddenly a bad thing. Forgive me for trying to care."
Mila is beginning to regret bringing this discussion up, but she's too far to turn back. Something in her gut just doesn't agree with this, and it's not like she can just drop it that easily without admitting defeat.
