I may be late, but I have been catching up with the Main Story Chapters now to add some more damn tropes. But ho boy, Ares appearing in the latest story chapters adds a lot of speculation and digging past events for some hidden tidbits and possible foreshadowing. And thank you Granblue Fantasy Versus closed beta test period for spoiling things! Here be some spoilered stuff:
- Is Ares also voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro? If that's the case, I think her voice was modified and was asked to speak in a mellow, "emotionless" voice. We do have a trope where two characters are intentionally voiced by one person because of lore connections.
- The redditors also have some interesting stuff about Ares as discussed here
. Or to be specific with the most-upvoted comments:
- Katalina's surname as Aryze foreshadows her connection to Ares. Damn Cygames puns working again?
- This line of dialogue in Paradise Lost calls Katalina as the war goddess of legend. Ares is mentioned in Chapter 125 to be the primal beast that governs war.
- Some say she is Katalina's ancestor.
- Some say she is a time-displaced alternate self of Katalina, considering Mika and Shitori also got time-displaced after staying in the Edgelands. One redditor even noted that this situation would make Ares the Hakumen of Katalina's Jin Kisaragi comparison from BlazBlue.
- Like Lucifer was created by the Astral Lucilius, maybe Katalina is the Skyfarer counterpart of the Astral Ares.
Even though these would count as Foreshadowing, I'm not gonna add these spoilered stuff yet until the plot progresses further to elaborate more on it.
Finally! Chapter 126 reveals that Vyrn is indeed connected to Bahamut... At least somehow. All of the foreshadowed hints are actually intended. And a lot of fans already agreed that they know "Vyrn is Bahamut", yet Cygames is just scattering a lot of hints for a fact that veterans already knew, and it's no longer such a major spoiler. I might actually add this compiled stuff and reword them a bit in Vyrn's character folder now.

Yeah Aryze = Ares was one of the most mindblowing hints
also still think this Luminiera flashback from SSR Dark!Vira was foreshadowing Ares by having an Astral commander who looks like Katalina show up because it's like poetic or smth to have an Astral Katalina and Vira parallel

ooooohhhhh so apparently Cygames hired the Sharknado JP dub actors for the new characters in the new event, which clinches it as an actual goddamn legit parody of Sharknado.
Now I want to see what the Japanese version of Sharknado is like.

Currently stuck between wanting him to just be a skin because having his summer version be better than the Grand version would be incredibly sad and wanting him to be a new unit because I'd spark him in a heartbeat and don't really want to go down the rabbit hole of buying costumes.

Well that was a rollercoaster. Going with an actual Sharknado was a left-field choice that shouldn't really be that surprising. I really hope Sariel with Bruce becomes a summon or summer character.
This event makes the WMTSB III epilogue a lot less awkward in its seeming rush to wrap things up now that Sariel's actively looking to find Belial and get answers from him, Az/Iss' recovery is explained to not be instantaneous, and Lucio FINALLY getting more prominence in events.
Loved how Lucio's just been trolling his way through the event.
Super curious who did the shark victim voices since it's so jarring but fitting.
This event is gonna be very hard to top in all aspects, especially with all the little details like Poopie, shark mutations, bean cakes, and some really well handled character moments.
