Character proposition!
Name: Mal Barrens.
Sex: Male.
Race: Belter.
Age: 27.
Occupation: Biologist.
Personality: Mal is kind and cheerful most of the time, and is very enthusiastic and passionate about his work most of the time. He’s very, very willing to explain his work to anyone who will listen, and is only slightly miffed when people point out that his presence on a resource hauler isn’t exactly a normal occurrence.
Backstory: Mal had always loved stories about the animals on earth when he was a kid. When he grew up, he decided to pursue a life-long dream- finding new life in the universe. And against all odds, even though he grew up in a poor community and was poor himself, he managed to get a good education and a degree. Most of Earth had already been explored, but the galaxy was vast, and countless opportunities lurked around every corner. At least, that was what he thought.
It’s been a good while, and while he hasn’t found anything- yet- he’s still hopeful. While his expertise with animals served him well on his home asteroid- he managed to improve the efficiency of their breeding efforts- the fact that he wasn’t a doctor or engineer miffed some of his colleagues. So eventually, they scraped together the money to convince a resource hauler to take him on to get them off their damn asteroid.
At the moment, Mal mostly serves as an assistant, more than anything. While he isn’t very good at building or repairing things, he’s strong enough to carry things, and can perform a variety of mundane tasks that free up other people to do more important things. His hopefulness about finding something hasn’t decreased, nor has his positivity and cheerfulness.
Appearance: Mal is tall and thin, with dark brown hair and blue eyes. His skin is rather pale from lack of sunlight, and he looks like he needs to eat more. He has dark bags under his eyes from a lack of sleep, although this doesn’t seem to limit his seemingly boundless energy.
Mal can be typically found wearing a large coat with many, many pockets, and a pair of jeans and gloves. His left eye is cybernetic, and glows a bright green whenever he uses it; otherwise, it’s merely a similar blue to his right one.
Skills:
-Is very well-read, and can scan through large texts easily, managing to find important information in seconds. That, and the sheer amount of information on his hand terminal that he can bring up with his left eye, makes him a veritable font of knowledge.
-Is in good physical shape, and while he may not be a soldier, he’s fast and strong for a civilian.
-Is well-versed in his field, and via memory and his stored data-books, can tell you a lot about animals, and can predict the behavior of many a creature.
-He knows basic anatomy, and is good with first aid. While he isn’t a doctor by any means, he can patch you up if you get hurt.
Items:
-General clothing -Data Pad (various books, apps, other information stored on it) -First Aid Kit -Job supplies (needles, sample containers, a few cages, ect.)
Augs: His left eye is cybernetic, and can analyze injuries and the physical structure of both humans and animals. It also lets him to pull up information from texts and books in his data pad.
Yeah, Mal normally wouldn't be on a resource hauler, but the people where he worked really wanted him off asteroid.
Wooze looks at Glass with a 'please take her away' lookYeah, that's one of those things that- while he'd be thrilled to leave the solar system- he's accepted the fact that he probably isn't going to even see it in his lifetime. So he's more concerned about finding undiscovered life on one of the planets he can conceivably visit while alive.

Well, except old Sokolov, but he ain't coming back with any great discoveries any time soon.

Cybernetic eye? Hey, if it wasn't for the fact that my character is very much not interested in close social interaction, they could be fake eye buddies! Natalie can join the extended group, the fake body part buddies.

Was thinking along the lines of 'too expensive,' yeah. And probably being too used to having one eye if the opportunity presents itself in the future, unless he's got a good reason (and then he'd probably go with some other Aug).
"life is just a series of increasingly canon-eluding ao3 tags" ~ everydunsparce "Keep your hellfruit away from me, tempter" ~ also EveryName: Danny Cho
Sex: Female
Race: Martian
Age: 26
Occupation: Navigator/Pilot
Personality: Danny can be easily described by a simple word: pragmatic. She aims to live a simple life without trouble, only does what she needs to do and nothing else and hates drama. Most people would consider her rude, but she thinks of herself as direct.
While she's not introverted nor asocial, she will rarely start a conversation unless she needs something. Because of this she tends to get along with people who like to talk a lot and with those who don't talk at all, anyone expecting her to engage in a two-sided conversation will not find it easy to befriend her.
Backstory: Danny is the orphan of two terrans who went to mars to try their luck and died in a hull breach accident. She was raised by an old man who didn't bother himself much with her, barely paying attention to her and having her look after herself. This combined with the typical martian philosophy of earning one's keep led to her being the person she's now. When she was old enough she applied for pilot school and then served as a pilot for the martian space force. She was good, but she wasn't outstanding at it. After doing her time in the army she became a commercial spacecraft pilot.
Appearance: Danny is a blond asian, daughter to a Chinese man and a Russian mother. she's almost 170cm tall, very thin and pretty fit.
She doesn't concern herself with appearances and will often be seen with a tank-top and sweatpants
Skills:
- Piloting
- CQC / Martial arts
- Pretty good shot, don't ask her to gun the ship though (changed it to better fit with other P Cs)
- Has a touch for plants
- Speaks a bit of Russian and Cantonese
Items:
- A photo of her parents and her 'grandpa' is the only personal item she owns
- Hand terminal
- Clothes.
Augs:
- Vision enhancements (hmmm, I feel weird being the third to have a cybernetic eye)
- Prosthetic lower leg after a railgun forcefully detached the original.
