It's an 8. Pretty dark stuff, dealing with abandonment and the loss of hope.

Explicit mentions of drugs and violence give it a 7, but the lyrics are strangely carefree, angst is not really present in it, 6.5
Spiral out, keep going.Err, 5.5? It doesn't seem to be one way or the other. Someone's talking about reaching out and new opportunities, but I haven't got any reason to believe they're bad ones...I think.
Mental As Anything - Apocalypso (Wiping the Smile Off Santa's Face)
The last thing you hear before an unstoppable juggernaut bisects you with a minigun.7. Some mention of graphic violence against "Santa" but is framing very comically.
A woman with alcoholism and commitment issues makes futile attempts at running away from herself, 7.5.
The Police - Every Breath You Take

Spiral out, keep going.7. Despite it's softness, this song is about Stalking someone. They'll always be following this person no matter what.

7. From the looks of it appears to be about drug use.
JT Music - The Widowmaker Song
Song starts about ten seconds in. About a video game character but no less depressing for it.
Career killer's ordeal suffered with glee, 8.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds feat. Kylie Minogue - Where Wild Roses Grow
Spiral out, keep going.8. Use almost every single romantic trope in order to pull the rug out from the listener at the very end. Heavy mention of murder and insanity.
A girl with commitment issues gleefully dives into her new adventure. Mentions of mental issues, 3.5.
The Hedgehog Song, lyrics by Heather Wood
Inspired by a song mentioned in Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels
Spiral out, keep going. It's an entertaining, silly, novelty song. It gets a 1.
Word's second most famous attorney with a bird-related name.5. A little angst that hints at some deeper issues of discontentment, but the different singers actively hurt the song by casting doubt on whether or not the lyrics are from the same person.
Lyrical Dissonance at its finest, though not that explicit as some other examples out there, 7.
Blind Guardian - And Then There Was Silence
Spiral out, keep going.Er, due to straight-out hopelessness from like start to finish, like an 8? Oof.
Redgum - I Was Only 19 (A Walk in the Light Green)
The last thing you hear before an unstoppable juggernaut bisects you with a minigun.Probably like an 8, since it's about a soldier haunted both mentally and physically by his time in vietnam. It mentions the various unpleasantries of that war without being particularly scathing or overt.
somethingThe only thing that prevents it from being a 10 is cuss-free language. Not that it helps in general, 9.5.
Spiral out, keep going.7 - This song is definitely violence oriented, it seems to talk about medieval times, maybe about a battle that took place. However, it doesn't go too much into detail, as the heaviest lyric is probably about the tiger ripping out his mothers womb.
8 - A strange, almost dreamlike trip through an obsessive stalker's mind and desire for physical and carnal fulfillment.
Mid to high 8. War references and heavy subject matters.
Joke? Why are you calling it a joke? You drew a picture of two dudes hugging and wrote "I love hugs!" on it.While there's not much explicit things in the lyrics, the air of hopelessness that the POV's hardships will never end is nearly tangible. And the way to escape those hardships made everything moot, 8.5.
Spiral out, keep going.7 - Straight angst without graphic detail.
It's a 3 or 4. There are some unpleasant thing mentioned but the rest of the lyrics seem to be nonsensical.
Silverchair-Petrol & Chlorine
6.5 - Something about the "Had the perfect job called life" line just really nudges me in the wrong way. The rest of it however handles the idea of suicidal self-destructiveness with appropriate weightiness and bitterness.
I was actually tempted to rate this song zero, because for all of its explicit Freudian imagery it doesn't make much of sense, it's as close to Word Salad Lyrics as possible. As a side note, this song made me realize just how limited my vocabulary is, 8.
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Peek-a-Boo
Spiral out, keep going.
8 - The interstice of where life and death meet, symbolized by the lushness of a decorative graveyard, adds a heavy romanticism to this metal-style lyricism (I know it's post punk, yes).
Hammers of Misfortune - Doomed Parade
