I'd give it a level 4, maybe 5. Allegedly it's about a high-class prostitute, but you wouldn't know from the light, silly lyrics.
On the topic of Queen here's a song by them which I find pretty dark (It's about the genocide of Native Americans)

Just another day in the life of Jimmy Nutrin8. It's easy to lose a message through all the rocking music but definitely dark.
Author.Somewhere on the fence between 9 and 10. This is the only Hollywood Undead song I still like, and it's because of how the sugary melody plays off the depressing lyrics and vice versa.
Nonsense is better than no sense at all.Definitely an 8 or nine. Not many songs have lyrics about someone wanting god to kill someone.
Shudder To Think-Jade Dust Eyes
6. I'm going to assume the song has sexual meanings based on what little lyrics are available.

Author.5.5 - I always found it funny how the angrier some bands try to sound, the more infantile and pedestrian the lyrics come across, thus turning genuine emotion into the kind of tired and easily ignored tirades you see on the facebook posts of angsty teenagers upset their parents took away their Xbox live subscriptions. It pours out itself so much in a way that seems to have been perfectly predicted by Billy Joel's "Angry Young Man" years ago that it's hard not to be jaded to this kind of whinging self aggravation.
Order From Chaos - There Lies Your Lord, Father of Victories
8. The lyrics aren't really all that dark but they are pretty dark.
Alice In Chains-Hate To Feel
8. The dark lyrics about heroin is pretty sad, especially on a meta level due to Layne Staley's death.
Author.9. It's pretty sad that kind of stuff happened to Jonathan Davis. This is some dark shit.
Radiohead-Street Spirit(Fade Out)
6.5 - A convincing depiction of suburbanite depression and apathy, implicit and symbolic in a way that mutes immediate viscerality but prefers to let itself seep in rather than fully emerge.
8. Pretty dark and unpleasant to read.

Author.6 or 7. While it has some dark subject matter, the lyrics don't get graphic.
The Smiths-Suffer Little Children
8. That's pretty sad to hear about the murder of children, especially in such a tone like that.
Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal
Author.5.5. It is about death but it sounds like something to dance to, probably cause it's by Michael Jackson.
Pink Floyd - Run Like Hell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFN7E-4URcA
“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” - Lewis CarrollFYI, we're basing this on lyrics as opposed to music.
8 - I wish this took its implications further but with relatively little flair or flourish it creates a genuine sense of violently parasitic guilt and lurking threats.
9 to a 10. Pretty disturbing lyrics. It's gets pretty graphic at times. It's a good song.

7. Pretty depressing to read about someone losing the will to live.
Apocalyptica ft. Corey Taylor - I'm Not Jesus
Author.7 or 8. It's a song about a man who got molested by a priest. It's pretty dark.
Hurt-Abuse of SID
7. It's about abuse, which is a pretty dark subject and the lyrics make it quite depressing.
Issues - Disappear (Remember When)
Author.I think it's a level 5 or so. It points out how awful the singer has been, but it points out that he/she can be strong.
I posted "White Man" earlier, here's another pretty dark song by Queen:
Just another day in the life of Jimmy NutrinIt's around a 7. It has a lot of swearing and the lyrics are filled with hate towards someone.
Black Sabbath-Paranoid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sq9Am-lcG0U
Here's the lyrics
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/b/black+sabbath/paranoid_20019415.html
I say it's a 7. Very dark lyrics, about a man who's girlfriend left him and can't even feel happiness anymore, even if it's sorta obscured by the speedy riffs.
Next up we have one of the most classic examples of Isn't It Ironic?.
Bruce Springsteen- Born In The U.S.A
Just another day in the life of Jimmy NutrinRemember of course, that this is about LYRICS, not music.
Do people not read the first posts of threads any more? The musical content doesn't really mean jack shit; we're rating lyrics people.
Anyways
6.5 - Humble disillusionment with dreams of prosperity.
Looks to be a 7
Poison (Yes, THAT Poison)-Something to believe in (alternate lyrics version):
Similar to the one about Metal heaviness, this one is about lyrical hardness: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MohsScaleOfLyricalHardness
This way we can post non-metal songs as well (though metal is still allowed of course). Remember of course, that this is about LYRICS, not music. I'll start with this Classic Rock standard, Killer Queen by Queen:
