Wonder if they can pay the licenses to make the film the Ready Player One/Space Jam 2 of horror movies? They've already got the Halloween franchise at least.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonUnrelated to anything, I discovered something neat about my favorite Killer (the Doctor) from a video I posted earlier
that lets me do something I genuinely love doing (unconventional stealth builds).
What I discovered is this: The Doctor's Terror Radius only determines the range of Static Blast, not its effectiveness.
What this means is Static Blast can hit any Survivor within the range of his Terror Radius, even if they aren't affected by it, such as, for example, when they're Oblivious.
That's right. Static Blast can hit Oblivious Survivors.
It's noted in the Doctor's power description, too. It states Shock Therapy/Static Blast immediately negate the Oblivious effect.
With that wording I'd thought that meant it would remove Oblivious upon contact, but when I tested it in custom lobbies it didn't do that. I thought the Wiki said it removed Oblivious as well but on second look it doesn't, just says it still hits Survivors suffering Oblivious.
Still, not having noticed that, I even went to the Ask The Community section of the DBD forums
and asked if this was working as intended or bugged. Cool as I thought this was, I wasn't about to go abusing an exploit over it. Only one reply but it supports what I've seen elsewhere.
So now I have a fun and nasty new way to use the Doctor: Dark Devotion, Hex: Plaything, and either practical perks (Jolt for regression, Hex: Pentimento for slowdown, Whispers to ensure hits) or more meme-ing (ex: Hex: Retribution or Hysteria) to really mess with Survivors' heads.
Toss in the Discipline add-ons that makes the Red Stain show up on Survivors during chases, and you even remove the one downside to Oblivious, the fact they still see the Red Stain.
Also for fun, a clip from a game I played with my roommate, who was streaming, where we the Knight dropped in on us unexpectedly.

I figured he same, but I tested it with all the other Oblivious perks that do a timed Oblivious effect (Hysteria, Deathbound, Nemesis, Retribution) and got the same result. My thinking was Plaything would be the exception, not the rule.
Also, to be fair one if those is a puppy cam for the dog.

Trapper for sure since he's mascot. I'd assume the licensed killers are out, except possibly the Shape, since Blumhouse also did the latest Halloweens.
I could see Wraith and Hillbilly, being the OGs behind Trapper. Huntress for popularity's sake. Twins if the special effects people are feeling fancy. Trickster since he's got the strongest connection with his respective survivor that I can think of besides the Knight and Vittorio.
Question is also which Survivors. Will we get game survivors like Dwight? Focus on Felix and Élodie and/or the other two Pariahs? Haddie as a Miss Exposition on the Ravage/Entity? Will we ignore them, go for new people entirely? Get old people only mentioned (like Vigo or the people behind the generic perks' flavor text)?
There's plenty of possibility in either direction depending on what they want to do with the movie. I imagine any survivors or killers not used in the actual plot will make cameos if we peek in on Trials.

Trapper and the original 4 survivors are the safest bet you can get. I'd say Wraith and Nurse/Huntress also have a good chance if the movie wants to avoid being thought of as "that horror with the discount Jason Vorhees". Hillbilly is too close to Leatherface to avoid reinforcing that belief.
As for expanding the survivor cast, I can see Vitorio, Haddie and Mikaela being perfect if they include a subplot about the survivors learning about and starting to fight back against the Entity. The question is if doing that in the first movie would be too soon.
Blight will be interesting in how they use him. Will we get an extended time with Talbot as he helps the above trio learn about the realms, maybe even getting to blight a killer, before he goes off the deep end and turns himself into the Blight? Or will he just be in a quick stinger at the end to both tease a sequel and add suspense about survivors becoming killers?

Perhaps, in regards to the Survivors, they could also get the actors who originally played some of the game's licensed Survivors in their respective source materials to make unnamed Lawyer-Friendly Cameos as Killer-fodder, but leave the actual plot stuff to the named, original Survivors?

"Cynic, n. — A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be." - The Devil's DictionaryNew Patch Notes: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/patchnotes
Some stuff alongside what we already know:
- Background Player's change is different from how I'd understood it. I took it as "you get the speed boost on pickup" but the way is written now is the perk activates for 10 seconds on pickup and you get the speed boost if you run at any time during that period. So if you're on a gen and don't move the perk activates, runs its time, and goes away until the next pickup triggers it.
- Under bugfixes is stated the Skull Merchant perk Leverage "now applies only when healing others and not self-healing."
- A sound update I'm already seeing generate some chatter due to its effect on the noted perks:
We have done a consistency pass on the following perks and addons which trigger audio feedback when the position of a Survivor is revealed:
Deathbound, Dragon's Grip, Eruption, Hex: Face the Darkness, Infectious Fright, Iron Maiden, Make Your Choice, Iridescent Family Crest, Incensed Ointment, Healing Poultice, Greasy Black Lens.
When a Survivor screams to reveal their location, the scream will be a 3d scream (instead of a 2d/mapwide scream), with a 19m max range, and a loud noise sfx is triggered.
If I'm reading things correctly, this is especially problematic for perks like Make Your Choice or Deathbound where you have to be beyond the scream's new range to even get use out of them. Likewise it removes any informational value from Iron Maiden and reduces it from Infectious Fright for survivors outside the radius.
I'm not offhand familiar with the addons so I can't comment there.

Also, making it a 3D sound means it's screwed over by this game's utterly atrocious sound occlusion.
You know, the thing that means you can't hear a generator sometimes if it's on the other side of a wall?
They added that to something that's meant to use audio to reveal people who are hiding. Who thought screaming needed nerfing? :/
It was already basically an even worse form of Dying Light (slightly stronger effect per hook, but limited to healing, and it turns off it it takes too long?) and they went and made it even more useless. Bravo, Bhvr.

I've been thinking about Perks, both specific perks and build ideas, that might be uniquely powerful on Skull Merchant.
Some ideas:
- Agitation and/or Iron Grasp, for those times you don't want to hook by a particularly well placed drone. Maybe go for a backpack build if you feel like meme-ing.
- Hex: Thrill of the Hunt, instead of gen defense use drones for Totem defense. Pick a Hex or two of your liking, guard them with drones. If a drone near a Hex goes down or spots someone, Thrill can buy you the time to get there and interrupt it.
I've seen people suggest Impossible Skill Check builds and rapid kicking builds by combining addons with things like Brutal Strength, Unnerving Presence, etc.

She hasn't been changed in any big way, no.
I don't know about bad. I personally enjoy her and she has a unique powerful build option (haven't given it a try myself).
That said, outside of that build she's fairly standard stealthy M1 killer and the build could be inflating her kill rates.
I personally think she could be made a lot stronger just by having some way to force interaction with her power the way Pinhead, Wesker, or Pig have.
Edited by sgamer82 on Mar 9th 2023 at 9:31:18 AM
The condemned build is basically the only one she has. Playing normally, it doesn't come up (and can be easily gotten rid of). Her stealth has the caveat of a lullaby and being perfectly visible once nearly within view, plus the need to slowly manifest (no speed boost like wraith) and hope that the flickering plays nice enough for a mindgame. And on top of that, she's short enough to have visibility problems when it comes to seeing over obstacles, making her an M1 killer with a disadvantage at playing around things.
And then, to add insult to injury, her slow-to-reactivate teleport continues to have the issue of facing away from the generator it's beside, and being something Survivors can turn off. And get notified of (at best, with the addon to make it seem like she's coming through all the TV's).
Sadako, like SM, is an example of a Killer where they went for a variety of abilities, but none of them are actually particularly good. Compare Wesker, who doesn't have the best chase/antiloop power, but combines it with enough slowdown and info to make for a really strong combination—and a bunch of add-ons that effectively add to his power.
SM in particular has that weird spot where she's best at holding a 3gen for ages because at that point it's just 'constantly put new drone up and harass people off gens', but her power doesn't really contribute much except getting into chase at other times. Which is just a really bad combination in general. I think the only vaguely interesting build I've seen so far had that purple addon that gives her haste on passing through the area, combined with a bunch of chase perks—Superior Anatomy, Play with Your Food, Bamboozle, and Brutal Strength (I guess that last one could easily be swapped with something else). At least that capitalised on having constant info and something to contribute to chases. Everything else, even when it's been a win, just came across as 'yes, but if you had one information perk, you'd also have a more involved power before most of the gens completed'.

Bugfix Patch: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/379
Nothing in particular catches my eye other than it sounds like they fixed the issue that got Dredge killswitched. They did fix an audio issue with Spirit ("Fixed an issue with The Spirit where the audio for her phase ability would not be played for Survivors while using the Furin add-on.") but it doesn't sound yet like they've gotten the also issue.
Developer Update: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/380
A reversion of the scream update is planned as well as some changes to the Skull Merchant
- To help her in chase:
- A stacking haste buff for every Survivor tracked on her radar
- Ultrasonic Trap Speaker will be made basekit (addon will now reduce time it takes for Undetectable to kick in)
- To curb her 3-genning power:
- Hacked drones will be returned to the killer once its respective Claw Trap is removed, rather than immediately.
- To prevent the potential indefinite denial of the killer's power, Claw Traps will drop off immediately once expired and no longer refill when entering active drone zones.
- Drones will enter an unhackable state whenever a Survivor with a Claw Trap is near
- Addons:
- Expired Batteries going from purple to pink
- Prototype Rotor from pink to purple.
- Adaptive Lighting buffed to increase Undetectable length by 50%, up from 20%
Re: Screams
In this update, we’ll be readjusting these Perks to bring them back to the original functionality, but with the proper scream sounds. Screams caused by Perks will once again be ‘2D’ – meaning you can’t quite tell which direction they’re coming from – and be heard map-wide.
On paper, the haste buff might actually work nicely with my totem defense build, which relies on a drone being disabled as a warning a totem is in danger combined with Thrill of the Hunt's slowdown to buy you time to interrupt the cleanse.

Well, it's close to the rework I suggested on the forums: stop making her about debuff and exposed, make her get buffs from it. Although I can't remember what any of the addons were called, I'm wondering if they're going to fix the haste stacking thing that also plagues knight—light greaves is now de facto useless because you can't stack haste effects, and if you place any slightly-long route, you get haste already.
Apparently they've gone so far in the other direction on Spirit's audio, it's now clearly possible to hear it over any other game sound on top of not having any occlusion. Wonder if this is going to go into the 'way too much info' category if they work in something for accessibility for the deaf (on top of base TR stuff).
Letting Killers stack haste buffs would be the logical one, imo.
There's only like... two, three perks that directly give haste? Noed, PWYF, and Devour Hope. Other Haste tends to be a thing on the power when it doesn't just fiddle with the base speed directly. And this will now be the second Killer in a row whose power gets edited to have a haste effect and who has an add-on defined by giving haste.
I'm still in awe over how bad the new Red Forest is.
