Yeah. The lore is cool but, like Overwatch's lore, is basically just an Excuse Plot.
For me the issue is less the gameplay and more the gameplayers. I've had a fair share of games that were unfun because the killer or other survivors had to be assholes.
There is nothing wrong with excuse plots.
Generally an Excuse Plot is introduced so you can get straight to the gameplay, which would be the game's main selling point. But what interests me the most of this game is not so much the gameplay (in fact I loathe it) but the atmosphere.
Then again, I am the kind of person who would make the Clown different - not in gameplay but just like. In what he does. Instead of hooks, he gets clowny basketball thingies, and he alley-oop DUNKS the FUCK out of survivors into the hoops where he leaves them uncomfortably trapped.
Also he shouldn't pluck survivors out of the closet, he should get inside with them.
Also if the clown catches you looking at a chest he should get the option to kick your butt in and trap you inside the chest.
Repairing the generators? A matter of pulling this nigh infinite handkerchief out of the mechanism!
And the basement? No hooks. Just a clown car.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesThe issue with killers being that distinctive, from a gameplay perspective, is that the moment you see one of those things you know right away it's the Clown you're up against. Plus I imagine it's simpler to keep things as uniform as possible where you can.
Used to be Killers had their own distinctive hooks and ran into that exact problem, so the hooks are now map-specific. With some killers (Pig, Plague, Trapper) that can't be helped, but it's something better avoided when you can or risk giving Survivors an early advantage.

Only the first couple times you face a specific Killer. It's a beginner thing. Eventually those warnings stop coming and you have to figure it out as you play.
The idea, I think, is that you shouldn't know who the killer is until they themselves make a move.

Ooh, that's gonna be interesting...

I don't know if Ethan would be too obvious a choice for a survivor

or the could do something completely out of left field and have a mob of zombies as the killer, eg the player controls a leader zombie controlling a crowd of individually weak NPC zombies that grows in number as they complete objectives/take out survivors ala Stubbs
So after nearly 4 years of not playing the game I finally decided to jump back in to see what I was missing.
As a mostly killer main, I remember getting pretty annoyed by the survivors, but having gotten older and mellowed out I'm feeling a lot less bothered by stuff than I was and just going through it having fun, I'm glad the game's still alive and still going.
Been having some real knockout matches as Wraith in particular, loving his buffs so far. I'm having to play him sparingly though because I'm burning through Bubba's web to get globally unlocked BBQ ASAP. And I know Trickster needs work, but he's real fun to play.
I guess more than anything going into the match knowing "Entity Displeased" is basically the only lose state for a killer let me re-examine how I approach it mentally.

I've grown to a similar mindset. I'm in it mostly for points so long as I get that I'm fine. I have my most fun with Freddy using a "stupid build" of BBQ, Infectious Fight, Dark Devotion, and Distressing (all Terror Radius perks except for BBQ on a killer who makes Survivors oblivious). I may swap Distressing out for Starstruck once I get it on Freddy, but it's always a laugh when I get I.F. to work.
I'm pondering similar silly builds of Undetectable perks on Huntress and Exposure perks on Plague.
So with less than 72 hours until the reveal, who do you think the representatives from Resident Evil will be?
The best guess I saw for killer would be the three daughters from Village, as the logo for the event looks scythe shaped, and all the other iconic villains from the franchise are too tall to work around the game's existing maps. The other prediction I saw was a zombie horde which...would be certainly unique.
I don't know Resident Evil well enough to try to guess. Though I'd think if they were going to try for a zombie horde themed killer, they'd do something based on Left 4 Dead's infected, since they already have Bill.
I actually had an idea for the Special Infected as a killer, you would swap between them (a la Charlotte and Victor), possibly randomly, and get different effects as they'd be a Jack of All Trades with powers similar to other killers
- Boomer and Spitter / The Plague (Vile and Corrupt Purge respectively)
- Smoker / Deathslinger
- Charger / Hillbilly and Oni
- Jockey / The Twins
- Hunter / Demogorgon and the Twins
Ultra Rare add-ons give you a chance to be the Tank or the Witch and summoning a Horde would be the Mori.
If I had to take any kind of guess, mine would end up being Mr. X, since Nemesis wouldn't work (A rocket launcher?), Wesker is way too much of a superhuman to be fair, Jack Baker would be my second guess, Lady Dimitrescu after playing 8 probably is off the table ( she's a small fish in the grand scheme of things, dying after the first of five areas).
Mr. X would probably be able to work in the Implacable Man status somehow, maybe an enrage meter or something that muffles his terror radius and lets him power through palettes or blocked doors without any animation or slowdown to reference how he did it all the time in his own games.
I gave this game 60 hours and realized I was not having fun with it. It is just not good to be paired up with pople who have 2k+ hours to your 60 consistently. It bums me out I really wanted to play this with friends.
That said, I would be a bit dissapointed if the RE character ended up being one of the Dimitrescu daughters. I would love Lady Dimistrescu herself, but a far more iconic character would be Nemesis for sure
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesA tentacle that allows you to throw or push survivors into situations however is something that had been floating around for a long while. A bruiser M1 killer that can, say, regress gens by throwing a survivor into them, and land shots to push survivors into dangerous situations is not a novel idea and does kinda fit nemesis and even Mr.X.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesForgive me for the double post, but the new chapter has been revealed.
There are two new survivors: Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine
And then there is the new killer: Nemesis. There's tentacles involved in the trailer.
This involves, a ranged tentacle attack that infects people on first hit. The attack improves in range the more people there are infected. It dmaages infected people. There are vaccines that can heal you, but they are limited. Furthermore, when fighting nemesis, the map will have zombie AI units which will alert Nemesis, and attempt to infect the survivors.
There is also a new map: Racoon City Police Station
The release is on June 15

Also, I got my wish as far as new survivor(s). I wouldn't say "prediction," but they did what I said they should do.
So far, no perk reveal except for one of Leon's. He can bring a flashbang into the match.

Formerly KarmaMeter.

A friend is trying to get me into this game. After having played a handful of rounds I love the atmosphere and the memes but. God damn do I loathe the gameplay.
The lore is fun though. Sad to think we will never know the more rue nature of the entity other than "Asshole eldritch creature" though
