Either way, ~50 isn't a plausible population number.
Also, like, remember when we first met Kohaku and I was going 'how the hell is she still speaking modern japanese'? I quieted down on that front because it looked like they'd only be unpetrified for a few generations, and the first generation had for some reason attempted to suppress scientific knowledge.
So, even aside from questions of populations, we have the questions of 'why hasn't there been any linguistic drift?' and 'why hasn't there been any technological advancement?'
Like I understand that not everyone is gonna have Senku levels of understanding modern technology, but why did Chrome have to rediscover basic chemical reactions from scratch? Are to believe that in 3000 years, Chrome was the only one who thought to try stuff like that? And surely the astronauts would've passed on what knowledge they could scrape together, in the hopes that future generations will build on, right? They should be at least enough knowledge to know that a pulley isn't magic.
Oh, here's another thing I remembered: Y'know how Senku wasn't allowed in the village because the villagers believed that they were the only people in the world, except for some criminals that had been exiled from the village and therefore shouldn't be allowed back in?
That's not a view that makes any sense if it's been more than a few generations. If it's been more than, say, ~100 years, they'd be going 'unless they're the descendants of people who were exiled, I guess. But we're still going to keep people out because of crimes their ancestors committed centuries ago.' Which, is, y'know, not how it was portrayed.
So, like, it's gonna take a real fucking good explanation for me to accept that this village has been going for 3000 years.
At some point you just have to say, "Because shonen.", and let it go.
Creed of the Happy Pessimist:Always expect the worst. Then, when it happens, it was only what you expected. All else is a happy surprise. The reason it bothers me is that until this chapter, there totally was a reasonable explanation for all this available, which is why I haven't been complaining about it before. If we assume the village's first generation was unpetrified ~100 years earlier than Senku for whatever reason, the only remaining question is 'why did the first generation suppress scientific knowledge?' Which is not something that defies explanation, and what I thought this flashback was going to focus on explaining.
But no, it seems suggesting that the first generation was never petrified, which raises a whole hosts of additional problems.
Maybe the population went to war with one and another, leaving the Ishigami population quite secluded. Or maybe Senkuu, as a genius as he is, probably mistook some of the calculations.
Or maybe Artistic License – Biology is full effect in here. Marry your cousins, everyone, is Genesis time again! Besides, Senkuu did say he was going to be the new world Adam... although he later said "Taiju" was going to be the Eve... LUCKILY NOT ANYMORE!!! (Sarcasm Mode)
In all seriousness, my personal theory is that there was someone like Tsukasa again in the past, which made the world even more science-less than before.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.

No, you need at least 150. Bit of Artistic License – Biology going on there.
Does anyone actually read these?
