Per this closed TRS topic, So Cool, It's Awesome should not have any wicks from main or YMMV subpages, as is the standard rule for Sugar Wiki articles.

Per the related page, it has 637 wicks, including 552 from its main redirect. We need to get rid of them. Troper army, go!

I've just been clearing entries on YMMV subpages so far, it's down to 500 wicks total as I write. Should it be cleared from trope pages as well as work pages? And then what about Sugar Wiki/ (such as Awesome/ subpages for works) or Darth Wiki/ or Just for Fun/ pages?

Links from trope articles, when they are part of the text of an example, should be removed. Links from the description can remain.

Links from Sugar Wiki subpages, such as Awesome Moments, can probably stay. They don't do any harm, and they are properly segregated away from the primary articles. I have no strong feelings either way. Same with Darth Wiki and Just for Fun, although it's rather odd that any DW pages would link to So Cool Its Awesome, except ironically.

Well, it's definitely on a few Darth Wiki/ pages; haven't checked, but you're probably right in guessing that it's done ironically, or perhaps for contrast purposes.

Still concentrating on YMMV pages for the moment, although it's getting to the point where I'm remembering why I've had to scale back participation in wick cleanups (and why I'm in awe of the one-man and one-woman wick cleaning and namespacing armies we have editing here)... running across too many pages that have great long laundry lists of problems (bad formatting, bad indentation, bad grammar, etc.) and finding it takes almost an entire 20 minute edit lock (or more) to fix them. tongue

I know the feeling. You have to compartmentalize a bit for these cleanups.

When I'm doing wick cleanups, I have a notepad file open to jot down pages that need work outside the scope of the wick cleaning. I fix the wicks, make a note of what else needs done, grit my teeth and move on to the next page on the related list. :(

Easier said than done when you run across pages like Blog.Froghand. Didn't actually remove the wick since it purports to be in-universe, but leaving aside the acres of space between entries for each trope, there is hardly a single entry on the entire page that isn't accompanied by a quote that makes me mention the animal from which we get venison in a dashing shade of bluish-green. (Teal deer... yeah, wasn't worth the excessive setup, was it.)

But that's probably another issue for another thread.

Chipping away where I can; I presume in-universe examples stay, as they do for other Sugar Wiki/ tropes (like one of the banes of my editing career, And the Fandom Rejoiced).

Not so sure about these. I don't think that people calling a work good in-universe does by default entail that this calling is a trope.

Audience Reactions can be valid trope examples in-universe. The problem with So Cool Its Awesome is the sheer vagueness of the proclamation. What specific language or wording would denote the use of the trope, as opposed to someone merely expressing liking for something?

Certainly most of the "in-universe examples" I've run across so far have amounted to someone saying they liked something; I suppose I'll prune them unless they actually use the words "so cool it's awesome" verbatim, then.

So just so I'm clear on this: wicks on Sugar Wiki/, Darth Wiki/ (again, yes, I have actually seen DW pages listed in the "Related" list), and Just for Fun/ can stay, and so can links from the descriptions at the beginning of pages for related tropes, but wicks from work pages (and their YMMV and Trivia subpages) and examples on trope pages get axed. Is that more or less correct?

(Wick cleanups are so much easier in "The whole page is getting the axe; burn wicks to it where you find 'em" cases...)

Right, it's down to 173 wicks, many of which are still to the Main/ redirect and need to be namespaced, but I just wanted to run down the following subpage types to see if So Cool, It's Awesome wicks on them should stay or go:

Once I know which of the remaining wicks to clear and which to namespace, hopefully it'll just be a matter of identifying ghost wicks and locked, non-archive pages. (There's a wick on Mary Sue, for example.)

I would remove them from Fanfic Recs, as it's user editorializing. Not sure what they would be doing on Haiku; probably safe to clean those out. Same with Headscratchers; that subpage is not immune to the rules on unlinkable tropes.

The link on Mary Sue is in the description, which we explicitly allow.

Thanks for the effort, by the way. Loving it!

Could be in the Haiku namespace because "So cool it's awesome" happens to be five syllables, making it an easy concluding line. That means most of them are probably sinkholes.

ETA: Yep and no. Sinkholed, but not used as the last line. Whoever did those went to a lot of effort to make them all-blue entries. I'd pull it from there.

ETA,A: And I did.

Well, I'm not exactly the troper army by any stretch of the imagination, but I think I've got all of them; the wicks that are still here are on pages where Sugar Wiki/ wicks are acceptable (other Sugar Wiki/ pages, Darth Wiki/ pages, and Just for Fun/ pages, as well as a small number of links in "Can lead to..." or "Compare to..." type sentences at the beginning of pages for related tropes). Someone may still want to go down the list of remaining wicks (down to 143 since Septimus axed the Main/ redirect) to see if there are any others that need zapping, but if not, I presume this project can be filed under "completed".

Great work. I'll leave this up for a day or two to see if anything else comes up, and then close it.
