I know that this is a few months late, but here is a parody alternate trailer about the adventures of Light Turner. It seems that a lot was changed before the final product was made.
This was inevitable.
And more I think about it, the name choice Light Turner is ridiculous. I'm sure there were other surnames they could have chosen. Does he turn the light on? Oh, wait...

Everything that lives is designed to end. That picture on the right definitely looks cheesy. Light just dramatically shouts now and then; he's not a screamer.
I might check out the Netflix movie this month, but reading this thread makes me think that not nearly enough people have seen the 2015 series.
Well, started watching the Death Note Drama. It's eerie how it shares some of the same changes the film did, but I would watch the drama over the film any day. I think my favorite part is how animated Ryuk is. His wacky gestures are really entertaining.
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash.Saw the movie yesterday. As an adaptation it's disastrous, completely losing everything that made the sourse material interesting/popular. But as a standalone piece it's alright. Average, but not horrible. The only thing I consider really bad is the choice of songs: the ferris wheel scene was killed by the soundtrack, and not in a good way.
Also, I agree that the 2015 TV series is underappreciated.
I love my country, I just hate its governmentY'know, the maturity level of this movie seems like it's skewing younger than the original anime/manga, yet it has a higher age rating in every country due to the over-the-top gore and gratuitous swearing ("I called you a stupid fuck, you stupid fuck"). Something to think about.
Somehow my twelve-year-old sister knew that this movie was bad and she's not familiar with the franchise at all. Someone semi-relevant/mainstream on Twitter probably mentioned it or something.

Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered!![]()
That's one of the few things about it that can adequately be explained by "It's being made in America."
It's the fundamental paradox of American media that most of our mature-rated films, video games, etc. are typically marketed to the 12-14 year old demographic.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The part that really stuck out to me was:
" The real problem with Light's character, is that he lacks agency, a real sin for the lead. Rather than driving the plot, other characters drive the plot, and he just follows with occasional objections. Light Copyright © Netflix
Other characters seem to exist to make Light look better, such as Mia, one of the actual driving forces of this film. Although she makes a number of decisions that influence the events of the plot, we never quite understand why she is the way she is, or what is going through her mind."
The idea of Light as lacking agency is baffling. Death Note is supposed to be Light's story from start to finish. He is the one who started the game and played it until he lost.
Makes sense to me. From the start, I was saying this looked too sympathetic to Light's POV. What's one way to make Light more sympathetic and likable? Relegate him to hapless, well-meaning guy who's in over his head.
Step 1 when fitting Draco for Leather Pants is to make everything not his fault.

I use the word pity to describe how I feel about Light Yagami. I've only read the manga but we have his reactions to his first using the DN, the Amnesica/Yotsuba Arc and also a little WOG on who he was as a person. People who say he was always a sociopath or whatever are missing the point, IMO. But that being said, Light is still a bad person but it's perfectly possible to feel pity for a bad person. He was a teenager who fell prey to a supernatural power and his own flaws. That doesn't make him less culpable but it does make me pity him.
Misa is the most sympathetic main character in DN as far as I'm concerned. In a way, Mia being more capable and provocative is negative. Sure it gives that character more agency as opposed to being a plaything but like somebody noted earlier, it almost validates a lot of shitty opinions on Misa. That she was just some "dumb bitch" who was to blame for everything.
