Haven't quite decided on a name or appearance yet, but I got a rough bio in my head.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FqQbWiOdGeA8YdgifhLJ8puau-y-_Xajp0rgEvvC2mw/edit?usp=sharing

Still stat wise the character is done. I'm not a huge fan of the war dog background service record thing. But none of the others really worked either. So I'm sort of treating it less ruthless frontline soldier and more, doesn't really care about collateral damage sort of thing. If that makes sense. Like not actively malicious so much as doesn't really think things through.

I might adjust the personality sliders some and maybe move a skill point or two around, but overall that's where I'm going character wise.

Anyways, for appearance what are the military regulations regarding say tattoos or hair dye and other stuff.

New species proposal! (I'll fill out their cultural background more later on.)

Name:

Seralian (Singular), Seralians (Plural)

Scientific Name:

Orbis venenatis

Nicknames:

Tails (Casual, Friendly), Chompers (Unfriendly,) Scaly (The “Come at me bro” one)

Description:

Seralians were created via genetic experimentation, and combine both aspects of snakes and humans. The upper-half of a Seralian resembles a human, and they sport the usual traits of male and female humans up-top, the only real exception being that Seralians have fangs- which vary in size from individual to individual. The lower half of a Seralian, however, is where they really differ. From the hips down, a Seralian lacks legs. Instead, a large snake tail sprouts, about seven to ten feet in length.

Their tail tapers down to a whip-thin end, although not thin enough or whip-like enough to hit people with in combat. Seralians sport all the normal hair colors and skin colors that humans tend to have, and their snake-half sports almost any color combination on the visible spectrum. Their eye color tends to lean towards red.

Species Traits:

-Dancing: Seralians have a proud history (aka about five thousand years- they’re VERY new to the galaxy) of being good at dancing. Their snake half allows them to move in hypnotic and pleasing patterns, and they tend to enjoy slithering dances with others of their kind- even when they get knotted together by accident. + (via DM discretion) to the Dance skill.

-Constrict: Due to their powerful tail muscles, Seralians can wrap themselves around enemies and crush them- either to death, or simply to unconsciousness. This attack, while powerful against single enemies, is dangerous to the Seralian because if there are more than one combatants, things can go wrong very, very quickly. They effectively leave themselves helpless.

Homeworld:

Seralians don’t have a “real” homeworld, as they were created in genetic experiments by humans. As a result, they tend to be somewhat nomadic.

Culture: Seralians, as a whole, are surprisingly religious. Despite having been created by humans, they have adopted several human religions, and are usually rather faithful. Seralians also put much emphasis on dancing and fluidity of movement, often teaching their young to slither and dance before they can even speak.

I'm still not quite satisfied with my char and I'm reassigning some of her points again. Would it be possible to switch out the Security bonus gained from the Peacekeeper career with something else? I'm trying to play up her status as the team's country bumpkin, and giving her a bonus in a skill which, if I'm not mistaken, revolves around hacking seems a bit out-of-place. Perhaps she could get an extra point in a combat skill instead, freeing up one of the points I've already used there for something else.

Okay, massive post incoming. Bear in mind, I started working on this yesterday, a lot has happened since then, so I've probably missed a few things.

And who's the XO?

Funny you should ask, Izshta, because as it stands... that'd be you, actually.

Mal and Syltrath were a pain (they have the exact same points in first aid and medicine, unless they've changed in the time since I've started this post, which is quite possible), but unless someone changes their stats around last minute, positions (and rank) are as follows.

Siri: Commander, Executive Officer

Serving as the second-in-command of the vessel, the Executive Officer is responsible for maintaining the smooth functioning of their ship, reporting directly to the Captain and assuming his/her duties, should the captain be rendered incapable of performing them.

You get an extra two points in leadership and management, still subject to the five point maximum for starting characters. If these new points would push a skill over that limit, you can reassign them to a different skill.

Mal: Lieutenant Commander, Comms officer.

The position of Communications Officer was a vital role in the Imperial Alignment Navy when it was introduced, responsible for monitoring, prioritizing, and analyzing broadcasts in the heat of battle, serving as the link between individual ships and the fleet they served in. As their previous duties were automated, however, Comms Officers' duties gradually expanded to fill other roles, and they now serve as the dedicated cyber-warfare specialists aboard Imperial vessels, responsible for disrupting enemy communications, bombarding enemy systems with garbage data, and relaying false orders throughout an enemy vessel.

They also have access to the oxygen valves, so the old jokes about "glorified telephone operators" are made at the crew's own peril.

You get an extra two points in computer use and security. Same as above, if one of these would go over five, you can put the extra point(s) someplace else.

Ki: Lieutenant, Helmsman

Responsible for the navigation and piloting of their vessel, the Helmsman's role has changed little from their origins aboard ancient seafaring vessels. A comprehensive suite of sensors means that a separate position for a navigator is unnecessary; all data can be processed by the ship's systems and passed along to a single individual, who can direct the ship as necessary.

Your extra points are in navigation and pilot.

Sylrath: Ensign, Chief Medical Officer

The officer in charge of the well-being of the the crew and any guests, willing or otherwise, who are taken aboard the ship, the Chief Medical Officer has the authority to treat any medical situation as he or she sees fit, ranging from treatment to quarantine.

Extra points in First Aid and Medicine.

Xarok: Warrant Officer, Defensive Officer

Beyond a complement of Marines, many Imperial vessels are equipped with a number of hunter-killer drones to assist in boarding action (or ground-side combat, as needed). The Defensive Officer's duties are to maintain these automated defenses, and to direct them in battle. As such, officers filling such a role see heavier personal combat than usual for members of the Grand Navy.

Points in Mechanic and Rifleman

On the subject of equipment, everyone who isn't Xarok starts off with the following as a basic kit. Bear in mind that these are just what you presumably have on you at all times; when preparing for an away mission, you'll have the option to grab other weapons. Also, you presumably have what you need to use your skills (i.e. anyone with first aid has a first aid kit, anyone with mechanic has a few multiple purpose tools they can use), as well as common sense items (food and water when you're off the ship, binoculars, etc).

Alignment Armaments Consortium Type-4 Directed Energy Sidearm- D6 Damage, Gunslinger

Rugged, reliable, and cheap to manufacture, the Type-3 Directed Energy Sidearm, usually abbreviated to "T-4 pistol," or simply "the Imperial service pistol," is the standard issue side-arm of the Grand Navy. Though often scorned by marines for its perceived lack of stopping power, it makes up for this with an energy cell that can carry a judicious wielder through multiple fights without running dry.

Alignment Armaments Consortium Cutlass-pattern Oscillation Blade- D8 Damage, Duelist.

Oscillation Weaponry (affectionately referred to as "Ow blades" by the rank and file) uses high-frequency vibrations to cut through armor and bone. While the vibration by itself shouldn't be enough to cut through skin, it is advised by Imperial manuals not to touch the blade while it's active, both for safety and to prevent accidental damage to one's own armor.

Alignment Armaments Consortium Type-4 Personal Shield Generator- 12 shield points, regeneration rate 2 (Regenerate 2 points every turn it remains undamaged), 3 turn recycle time (once the shield fully loses its charge, it requires 3 turns to reactivate. The regeneration for those turns still accrues, meaning it will redeploy with 6 shield points).

The Type-4 Personal Shield Generator is standard issue for all officers in the Grand Navy, being easy to maintain, cheap to produce, and offering good protection in a firefight.

Officer's Service Uniform- 2 armor

The standard gunmetal grey uniform for commissioned officers of the Grand Navy, adapted as necessary to suit the species of the wearer (trousers lengthened, shorted, or even dispensed with in favor of a loose "skirt" if needs be, etc). While designed to project the authority and power of the Imperial Alignment, the service uniform is intended as protective wear; the fabric of the uniforms is reinforced with synthetic fiber to disperse energy and impact, and backed with a lightweight, composite plating. Though less protective than dedicated armor, it allows full mobility and has proven sufficient for most Naval Officers, and features several arming points for supplementary armor, should it prove necessary.

Officer's Dress Uniform- 2 armor

The formal red-on-black dress uniform for commissioned officers of the Grand Navy, adapted as necessary to suit the species of the wearer. While more ornate than the service uniform and not intended as a combat uniform, it features the same synthetic fiber and composite plating as the service uniform, though it lacks the arming points; those who expect an officer in dress uniform to be an easy target quickly receive a rude awakening.

The following is special equipment, dictated by your position, traits, and certain skills. Assume all equipment is in addition to the standard unless it's marked as a replacement for it.

Siri-

XO's Uniform- 3 Armor (Replaces Service Uniform), Insulated

The pristine white uniform of an Executive Officer, adapted as needed to suit the species of the wearer. Cut like the other uniforms of the fleet, an XO's uniform is backed with stronger plating, and a superior weave of synthetic fiber to disperse energy, offering protection equivalent to that of standard troop armor. Like the standard service uniform, it features arming points for attaching supplementary armor, as needed.

Alignment Armaments Consortium Type-6 Personal Shield Generator- 20 shield points, regeneration rate 3, 2 turn recycle time. (Replaces Type-4 Personal Shield Generator)

Usually restricted to Inquisitors, the Imperial Honor Guard, or other elite units, the Type-6 Personal Shield Generator is a powerful tool. How an officer aboard a ship of the line came to acquire this is anyone's guess...

Mal-

Alignment Armaments Consortium Beam Rapier- D10 Damage, Armor-piercing 2 (ignores the first two points of damage reduction from armor), Duelist (replaces Cutlass).

The Beam Rapier is one of the most advanced melee weapons in the Imperial Arsenal. When inactive, the weapon appears as an ornate basket-hilt, capable of being attached to a standard mag-belt. On activation, a glowing blue holographic blade springs forth from the hilt. This projection is not a blade itself, but rather a representation of the weapon's containment field, where an invisible current of energy loops from the hilt to the end of the "blade," and back. When the loop is disrupted, the energy beam attempts to continue on its path, burning through anything in its way until the path is no longer obstructed. The lack of a physical blade gives this weapon an unusual balance and makes it unsuited to parrying (and conversely, nigh impossible to parry itself), so use is typically restricted to duelists of high caliber.

Beam Scalpel- D6 damage, Armor Piercing 2, Duelist or Brawl.

A souvenir from your days as a corpsman. Functioning on the same principle as a beam rapier, the beam scalpel, as its name implies, is intended to be used for medical purposes. While such a powerful beam is often regarded as overkill by civilian medical professionals, civilian medical professionals don't have to cut through powered armor to save their patients. Its efficacy as a close quarters weapon is not to be underestimated, though some, especially the Coalition, frown on the use of such medical equipment for this purpose.

Multi-scanner:

A hand-held sensor unit capable of scanning for a variety of phenomena, ranging from radio signals to gravimetric distortion to psychic disturbances.

Sylath-

Beam Scalpel (see above)

10 Combat Stims (per mission)- +1 Power, Coordination, Awareness. +5 Health, -2 Morale.

The idea of injecting chemicals into the body to improve performance is far from new, and neither is the idea of weaponizing it. Imperial Combat Stims Improve reaction time, allow greater physical strength, and contain an infusion of medical nanomachines that can close wounds and repair tissue. As with any form of medicine, however, too much is dangerous, and taking more than two in the same 24 hours is not recommended. Side effects include restlessness, moodiness, and feelings of being watched.

Personal Cloaking Device- Overheat 5, Burnout 5

Only issued to exceptional infiltration units, the Imperial Alignment's personal cloaking device is based on scavenge Coalition technology. Though several generations behind, it has proven an effective tool, both for covert operations and in foiling covert operations by other nations. Inquisitors in particular take special joy in surprising Coalition Spec Ops teams. As one Initiate famously put it, "They always look so shocked..."

Special

Overheat- Each turn of sustained use increases the item's Heat by 1. When an item's Heat reaches its Overheat value, it overheats, rendering it inoperable until its Heat returns to 0. Heat decreases by 1 each turn unless otherwise specified.

Burnout- When an item overheats, roll a D6. If the roll is equal or greater than the weapon's Burnout value, the equipment has burned itself out and becomes inoperable until it receives appropriate maintenance. Burnout Value decreases by 1 each time the item overheats without burning out.

Ki-

Alignment Armaments Consortium Scattergun- D10/variable, Ammo 6 (can fire six times before reloading), Ammo 6, Rifleman

Peacekeepers must be ready to be deployed on any of a thousand worlds at any time, and must be quick to adapt to changing situations. As such, their signature weapon is similarly versatile. Derived from the antiquated shotgun, the Imperial scattergun follows a similar concept, with its standard ammunition consisting of multiple small flechettes, shredding the targets at close or medium range. The Imperial scattergun can accept multiple types of ammunition and features two barrels, each feeding from a separate magazine, with a switch just ahead of the stock to select the left barrel, the right barrel, or alternating fire.

Xarok-

Type-4 Directed Energy Rotary Cannon- 3d8 Damage, Heavy, Overheat 3, Burnout 7, Heavy.

The Type-4 Directed Energy Rotary Cannon is one of the heaviest standard weapons in Imperial service. Commonly mounted on War-Droids, the type-4 rotary cannon boasts respectable damage while maintaining economic viability.

Integrated Chainsaw attachment- D8 Damage, Brawl.

Ostensibly intended for utility purposes, Xarok's improved frame includes a chainsaw integrated into it, which can be wielded as a deadly, if imprecise, melee weapon.

@Kosjurake Re: Tattoos and dyed hair.

In a nutshell, the Imperial Military has people with tentacles in it. By now, the Imperial Alignment is well past the point where restricting hair dye or tattoos would make much of a difference as far as cohesion goes.

@Top Gof: re:Species submissions:

Yes, yes I am.

@Cwest: So, Space Nagas... yeah, I'll bite, no pun intended. As long as it wasn't an Imperial or Coalition project that created them, that's fine.

@Ki: Sure, sounds reasonable.

And as for the Captain's leadership stat, that depends. I've got four options available.
