FanPreferredCouple Cleanup

I've posted it in ATT. Hopefully we can get a stronger consensus on what to do with the example. I'm not actually super involved in the FF fandom myself, but IIRC, FFVII Cloud and Tifa is a semi-Official Couple, but a part of the fandom prefers to ship Cloud with either Aerith, Sephiroth or Zach. I haven't really checked which is most popular.

Oh makes sense for Cloud to have that many ships. He's the main character of that game.

For Lizzie and Edwin from Life with Derek, are they each other’s most popular pairing too?

If so, I’ll write them an entry.

Just cut this from Live-Action TV:

• Gilmore Girls ended with Rory single, but Jess/Rory remains the most popular Rory coupling in the fandom. And none of the other Lorelai ships come close to Lorelai/Luke.

I know this show pretty well. Both of these had legit Ship Tease, with Lorelai/Luke even ending up getting married. Also Rory ends up single so there's no creator preferred pairing.

Also this:

• Broadchurch: Alec/Ellie has always been the fandom's most popular ship, even back in Season 1 when Ellie was still married. Though they didn't end up together, many fans like to imagine that they eventually became a couple after the show's end.

Now this is indeed the most popular. However, I am unsure if you can say they have a creator preferred pairing. Ellie's husband is shown at the end of season 1 to be a horrible person, and she stops loving him soon after the reveal. Alec has an ex wife, but the show doesn't have them get back together. There's one other love interest option for Alec, but she ends up with the pastor. One True Pairing would work better in my opinion.

I don't really know the work or it's fandom that well. But as long as it has a creator preferred pairing and is more popular than said pairing. I am fine with it.

I mean Lizzie and Edwin each had other love interests certainly, so it would be appropriate.

I don’t know how they are perceived. I’m pretty sure they are an FPC as well.

I think you are good to make an entry.

The issue with FF7 is Cloud/Aerith is also semi-canon, if not fully canon, especially when considering Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts. I'd be hesitant to list either it or Cloud/Tifa. Cloud/Sephiroth is probably the next most popular but I doubt it holds a candle to Cloud/Aerith.

Weird how one of the most popular games in the franchise doesn't have one. However, Cloud does make sense to have a lot of popular ships. That the canon or simi canon ones would overshadowed the non canon ones also makes sense. Since the game's fandom is infamous for Ship-to-Ship Combat.

The original FF7 allows the player a lot of choice when it comes to romance. You can have Cloud romance Aerith before her death, Tifa, or Barrett if you want. So from that perspective it's hard to even establish a non-creator supported couple.

Oh yeah, and you can have Cloud flirt with Yuffie too.

Yeah JRPGs and RPGs in general are kind of hard to pin down what counts as non creator preferred. Unless you for sure can't flirt or romance them.

An example I have been thinking about is Cyberpunk 77. Where the most popular ship is someone you can't romance. Namely V with Keanu Ree- I mean Johnny Silverhand. But even then some of the romance options are popular.

I don't have a lot of experience with the FF fandom myself, but if we do go by the overall ao3 stats, Cloud/Sephiroth is the most popular, with Cloud/Tifa at a close second and Cloud/Aerith much lower in popularity than the other two. However, in terms of the 2020 remake of FF 7, the stats are actually Cloud/Tifa followed by Cloud/Aerith and then Cloud/Sephiroth.

Though like I said, I don't know much about the fandom in general and since ao3 does have a leaning towards slash ships and the remake seems to have shifted some opinions, I don't know if this is necessarily enough to warrant giving Cloud/Sephiroth an entry.

Personally, in terms of games with multiple romance options, unless the game has an obvious leaning towards one option or a future game canonizes one specifically, I would say all of them are equally canon implied enough to not count and that an FPC could only work if it's for a ship that isn't an option within the game.

I think having two entries are fine. There’s two different versions of Twilight in these movies and both of them get shipped with Sunset.

At least in term of fanfics yes and they seem to be popular on tumblr and twitter. The only issue I potentially see. Is if the first Twilight mention is the one from the main universe. Does she have a more popular ship there? Are the fandoms distinct enough that it doesn't matter?
