We just discussed this on the previous page. Rather we like a ship or find it gross doesn't matter. If it counts it counts.
Anyways that wasn't the question. It was if Kim/Ron counts which most seem to agree doesn't.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadAnother one from Western Animation:
- Young Justice fandom has Artemis/Robin (due to him having more interaction with her than any of his four actual love interests); plus, while Artemis gets a Relationship Upgrade with Wally, a number of fans disliked it due to the cliched Belligerent Sexual Tension and a perceived lack of chemistry, though of course this opinion isn't universal. Slash fandom also shows a strong preference for Dick/Wally, which isn't hurt by the fact that Wally's death leads to Nightwing taking a leave of absence from the Team due to grief.
Looking at Archive of Our Own Dick/Wally is bigger than Artemis/Dick, heck Artemis/Wally is number 2 after Dick/Wally. Artemis/Dick is not even in the top 10. So I suggest we remove the part about Artemis/Dick and make it only about Dick and Wally.
Any thoughts?

Unless there was a time where the creator might not have intended for them to be together and it was most popular? But that's such a time gap and we really have no way of knowing, so I say cut.
Edit: Actually according to the show's trivia page, the creators apparently said they were always meant to get together. If that's true, then yeah, definite cut.

"Let’s see who’s stronger: someone that has something to protect, or someone that has nothing to lose."@Bull Well yeah. I know that doesn’t matter.
I was under the impression that Wally/Artemis had a lot more fans than her and Robin. I remember being one of them when I watched the show (first two seasons) in late 2016 (still haven’t seen Season 3 yet).

future: Artemis/Wally is more popular than her and Dick. But it seems Dick/Wally is more popular than any of them.

It sometimes doesn't, but sometimes that is the most objective way to tell. Sometimes it's not.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadRegarding the Jalex pairing in YMMV.Wizards Of Waverly Place; I don't like it, but it's still one of the most popular pairings in the fandom, so my opinion doesn't matter. What does bother me however is the formatting: (I didn't add any of those links)
- Fan-Preferred Couple:
- Justin and Alex The last movie suggests that even the producers might have become Jalex fans. (Along with almost every fan of the show.) "The last movie"? You mean the one where Justin didn't even appear? Also, "almost every fan" sounds extremely general, since incest is a pretty touchy subject everywhere
- This carries onto the crew as well. Justin's actor David Henrie stated the ending to "Wizards vs. Werewolves", which ends with Justin and Alex's first loves Put on a Bus, leaving them heartbroken and leaning on each other for support, along with a questionable dialogue consisting of We're not normal people..., is his favorite ending ever. "Hey, the actor of Justin said that he really liked the scene of two siblings comforting each other after a double-heartbreak, so Juliet and Mason deserved to get shelved!" I... can't even grasp that logic...
- Selena Gomez (Alex) declared that her favorite scene from the movie is the campfire scene, which is the most suggestive and intimate scene between Justin and Alex ever, saying that it's a real moment between a brother and a sister. What she meant by real, it's up to fans to decide... Again, taking a relatively normal scene out of context
- She has said on more than one occasion that the campfire scene is also David's favorite scene in the movie as well. Same problem as the previous entry, along with barely adding anything
- The creators admitted that they have known about the Jalex fandom for a long time now, way before the movie came out. So in theory, they introduced huge amounts of Justin/Alex in the movie with full intentions on what they were doing, knowing it would provide fuel for the majority of the fans' ship. One could even speculate that all the innuendo in those scenes aren't just the fans' wild imagination, it was actually real and there. According to this entry: "Acknowledging that a problematic pairing exists = What we see with our Shipping Goggles is actually intentional"
- There's a sweet little scene near the end where Justin basically says that Alex completes him and that he misses her. She says that she misses him too. That's about as close as you can get to saying I love you without actually saying it. Let me translate this for those who don't speak stupid: "A Platonic Declaration of Love = Brother–Sister Incest!!!"
- Even though Harper and Zeke are together, fans like to pair her with Max instead. This one has nothing to do with Jalex, but I like to point out that it's bullshit. Harper/Zeke is the most popular pairing for both characters, the ship with Max is more Ship Mates if anything
Conclusion: While Jalex is the Fan-Preferred Couple, the entry is way too drawn out, poorly formatted and seems awfully eager to convince people that Jalex is real, rather than just fans taking Word of God and Word of Saint Paul out of context. Of course, there's nothing wrong with Incest Yay Shipping. Neither of these are real people, it would be creepier if they were. However, it is wrong to say that the show supports incest. I mean come on, this is a Disney show. For kids. How could the Incest Subtext be intentional by any chance?
Edited by tropineasily on Sep 22nd 2020 at 12:03:25 PM
Yeah a rewrite is in order. I'll handle that later. As I am familiar with the fandom. Is there already one on Live-Action TV?
Edited by Bullman on Sep 22nd 2020 at 1:50:38 PM
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadYeah, I don't think the Incest Subtext was intentional.
Personally I didn't actually ship it or even pick up on it, so I was shocked to see it was such a popular thing; I feel like I would've noticed if it was actually intended by Disney.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper Wall
Yeah I don't think it was intentional either. But that really has nothing to do with this trope.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread
Yeah definitely. Or there wouldn't be any disconnect between the creators and fans, and it wouldn't count.
Anyways I will rewrite the entry either tonight or tomorrow. If no one minds. As it most definitely counts as this trope.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadTwo more from Western Animation:
- Phineas and Ferb:
- Ferb and Gretchen was popular with those who had a hard time overlooking the age gap between Ferb and Vanessa (but had an easy time overlooking the fact that Ferb and Gretchen have hardly interacted at all in the show itself). Yet the very second Monty was introduced as a love interest for Vanessa, Ferbnessa became more popular. Fandom is a fickle beast.
- There is also a sizable set of Doofenshmirtz/Linda shippers, to the point that it's a WMG that he is Phineas' father. Doesn't help that it's canon that they used to date.
I could have sworn we discussed these before. And decided that neither are more popular than the canon ones. Heck Doofenshmirtz's most popular ship isn't even with Linda either. It's with Perry. Anyone mind if I cut?

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread
Oh yeah, sorry. I was supposed to cut them, but I don't think we ever came to a consensus about the first entry so I wasn't sure what to do with it. But I think more people came and agreed that Ferbnessa was probably more popular, so I say cut.

I knew we discussed them before. Well they are cut now.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadActually, the Incest Subtext started because Justin wasn't originally supposed to be Alex's brother, he was supposed to be her next door neighbour and possibly her love interest. When the show went to air it got rewritten into the two of them being siblings... Except the love interest dialogue didn't get removed. Not that that's an excuse for the later seasons, that's probably due to actor chemistry, but that's how it started.

Oissu!- Fan-Preferred Couple: The Charlie/Alastor (or Charlastor) ship, which features potential Angel/Devil Shipping and Corrupt the Cutie elements, has greatly taken off compared to the canon Charlie/Vaggie ship.
Remember this entry from YMMV.Hazbin Hotel? Someone re-added it while poining out that it's more popular in the Asian part of the fanbase. That was removed under the pretense that "it's not just popular in Asia", essentially defeating the purpose of the Fan-Preferred Couple, since Charlie/Vaggie is still the most popular ship.
Yeah, I remember removing that at one point. Though, I am kind of curious if ships that are genuinely more popular in another place compared to where it was made warrant a Germans Love David Hasslehoff entry?
And I kind of brought this up before, but I think I'd like more opinions on it: should works from other countries like anime focus on ship popularity in the English-speaking fandom? Or should we focus on the fandom of where it came from? Because on one hand, the entries seem to focus on the English-speaking fandom unless specifies otherwise and it is easier to find info on the fandom whose language you understand, but on the other hand, it isn't where it's from originally and opinions can differ.
"Let’s see who’s stronger: someone that has something to protect, or someone that has nothing to lose."
I don't know, but they still shouldn't have re added it. Either way I normally say country of origin. So where was the show made?
I do the Justin/Alex rewrite later. But just to make sure. Do we have one already on Live-Action TV? I couldn't see one, but I could have missed something.

I just checked. Kim/Shego surpasses Kim/Ron in the amount of fics on AO3. Kim/Ron itself doesn't count. It was clearly teased from the beginning and ended up being the Official Couple.
