I think The Middle went through it often. Not including Morgan, Axl had six love interests throughout the series. I included April in that number, though since she’s an FRL, maybe she doesn’t count.

Didn’t add these yet. Looking for edit suggestions though:

• Live Free or Die Hard: While John McClane had his tumultuous marriage to Holly in previous movies and Matthew Farrell has his budding romance with Lucy in this one, fans expressed far more interest in McClane and Farrell getting together due to the movie being centered around their dynamic and Bruce Willis and Justin Long having good chemistry too.
• Girl Meets World: Riley Matthews and Maya Hart each have their own definitive love interests (with Riley having Lucas Friar and Maya having Josh Matthews), but despite that and massive support for the pairing of Lucaya (Maya/Lucas), support for Rilaya (Riley/Maya) was even bigger thanks to the chemistry of Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter (brought about by their real life friendship).

Nice name idea.

Before I do anything. Korra/Mako, Wan/Rava, and Jinora's can definitely go. Both the ones with Lin can stay as both of them seem very popular. Kya/Lin seems to be a bit more popular, but I think one only counts for Tenzin. That only leaves Korrasami. Which I don't think counts for the reasons I listed, but it is definitely the biggest ship in the fandom. So I will leave that to more opinions. Though I am leaning towards cutting, as much as that hurts me to say.

I hear there are shippers for Axl/Sue (despite them being siblings).

With Cobra Kai, I figured there were a lot of Daniel/Johnny shippers. I was wondering about the teen characters. They have the triangles with Miguel/Robby/Samantha and Miguel/Samantha/Tory, so I was wondering how fans stand on those.

Would something like this apply to ships that suddenly get popular even if they're not the most popular option, but were practically unheard of beforehand?

I don't know. Most of the shipping stuff online is Daniel/Johnny there is very little about the teens. Probably helped by the fact that they appear in the movies as well. I'm sure other people more into the show/movies fandom could answer that better. Though what little there is of them is Miguel/Robby.

The FPC entry in Brewdening Love seems like a shoe horn. Especially the last part that says "any pairing that doesn't involve certain chracters".

Yeah cut. All of those seem like shoehorns and zero context.

• From Kim Possible Kim/Ron before they became an Official Couple.

No they are not this, despite how much I love them. They were always clearly going to get together. With Ship Tease from the start. Plus if you want to go by fanfics Shego/Kim have it beat in most places. Though I don't think that counts as this either, but that's neither here nor there.

I definitely support the idea of creating a trope to track large scale shifts in the shipping preferences of a fandom. A lot of tropes regarding shipping have the problem of everything being written in present tense, with no accounting for how preferences and attitudes shift over time.

I'm currently reading this series, but here are the entries from YMMV.The Heroes Of Olympus:

• Fan-Preferred Couple:
  • Leo/Piper and Jason/Reyna have pretty big fanbases. That may be true, but both Jason/Piper and Leo/Calypso are more popular. I wish Jason/Reyna could count, but it isn't as popular as Jason/Piper and from what I've seen, Reyna ends up being Alone Among the Couples.
  • The Reveal that Nico had a crush on Percy in The House of Hades has given Percy/Nico quite a popularity boost. First of all: Why the spoiler tags? Everyone knows that. Second of all, the ship is popular, but still eclipsed by the official couples.
  • Calypso/Leo has also garnered a lot of fans, thanks to The House of Hades. Oh wow, what a helpful spoiler tag! I would've never guessed who this character would be! Seriously, Leo has no Love Interest for the most part and the relationship Calypso had with Percy was one-sided and ended in tragedy.
    • And as of The Blood Of Olympus has become an Official Couple. And now the examples contradict themselves! The indentation is also horrible.
  • As of Blood of Olympus, many fans have jumped ship from Percy/Nico to Nico/Will. Again, it's barely a spoiler nowadays. Besides, isn't this an Official Couple anyway?

Yeah cut those. They are either A) cannon or B) overshadowed by the cannon ship. And as a side note Reyna's most popular ship isn't even with Jason. It's with Thalia. And since Reyna has unrequited feelings for both Jason and Percy you make a better argument for Reyna/Thalia being this then then any other ship.

I remember with Kim/Ron thinking it’d be implied they would and for the most part, it seemed the show implied Better as Friends until So the Drama turned the tables on it. That said, yeah, they probably were a sure thing from the start.

With Cobra Kai, I wonder if the shipping for Miguel/Robby means shipping for the intense Foe Yay between Sam/Tory becoming Les Yay. Also, if the show puts Miguel/Sam back together, I want to see Robby/Tory tested out.

That's fine. I can see how that could be confusing. Though I should note that we have some Incest Yay ships that also count as this. Despite my dislike for them personally. Thankfully there doesn't really seem to be any from this fandom.

Yeah if it counts it counts. Nothing we can personally do. We are not going to exclude something that counts because we personally don't like it.

Just did. I didn't do it yesterday because I was sick. I'm still thinking about making one for Thalia/Reyna, but it's been a while since I have read the books.
