Hard to say when Obsidian will spring a mandatory fight on you or not. I'm more curious to know if there's actually something special about Rymrgamd, for all the other gods bar Berath to be afraid of him.

I think both the Crookspur ships and Deadfire traders spawn continuously specifically so you can grind. Could be wrong about that, though.

In my last playthrough at least, the Crookspur slaver ships stopped showing up after I slaughtered all of the slavers with the only living thing left on the island being the hapless merchant with the Legendary Saber and Armor (which are a lot easier to pilfer with no one else on the island).

And while Obsidian games do have a lot of skippable fights, they also generally have a final boss that can't be talked down. We couldn't talk down Thaos in the previous game, we couldn't talk down the Guardian of Ukaizo in the main game, and assuming the dragon is the final boss of Beast of Winter we probably won't be able to talk her down either.

Yeah the slavers definitely stop if you purge the island.

That definitely stops them from spawning. What I wasn't sure about is if they're infinite before then.

Just thinking about The White March, it wouldn't necessarily surprise me if there was an alternate final boss, or, like the Guardian, a final boss who wasn't really the main villain. Which could be the dragon. Not really arguing against it, just spitballing. I am kind of expecting the final encounter to be along the lines of your your debate with the Eyeless, only with Rymrgand.

It's been a while since I played White March, but I recall that both Parts 1 and 2 had mandatory final boss encounters. In Part I it was the spirits of the Dwarven leaders and their constructs, and in Part II it was a Kraken. Part II did have a post final boss verbal confrontation with a god (well, the pieces of one at any rate) similar to how the main game of Deadfire ends with a verbal confrontation with Eothas.

Basically I doubt they're going to pull a Planescape Torment any time soon.

That's all I meant. I'm sure there'll be some kind of fight at some point — just not necessarily as the final or most meaningful encounter.

But Pillars is totally the exception to the usual rule with Obsidian games, not Torment. New Vegas, Alpha Protocol, Tyranny, there's still tons of final bosses you can talk down. None of those games are quite down to PST's four-fight minimum, but I wouldn't rule it out.

Technically you couldn't avoid fighting at least one Archon. So there would indeed be a final boss fight. Bleden Mark, Tunon, or even both in succession.

I'm sure there'll be some kind of fight at some point — possibly, but not necessarily as the final or most meaningful encounter.

Personally I think the dragon will be the final combat challenge of the expansion, while Rymgrand himself will be the post-battle verbal confrontation.

That could very well be it, but the fact that they're putting the dragon right in the promo art and talking her up makes me feel like they're going to fake us out somehow, Obsidian being the devs they are.

I hope the expansion introduces more Soulbound weapons and armor too.

Hmm, I might make him a Celebrant. Or maybe the Zealot.

Just one more godlike chanter and we'll be able to put together a full five-member band.

So the recent 12.2 mini-patch, among other things, had the New Game Plus Port Maje vendor stock the Scavenger Hunt items. It's almost a shame I'm at a point in my playthrough where I don't really need said items. I just bought the Berath cape because it looks cool and the pirate Cosmo pig because it's a friggin' space pig with a pirate hat.

Ahh, well, it just hadn't been Pillars without you, space pig.

Pls bring back the black hound as well, Obsidian. Or at least give me some dialogue options where I can call out the big man for killing my dog.

This has led to the odd situation where I have both the regular space pig and the pirate space pig in my inventory.

Good tip. I was already planning to do my first DLC run with my Pale Elf Watcher from WtW (hoping for lots of reactivity); looks like I should swing by the Sacred Stairs and get Ydwin first to make it an all-Elven event.

Gone to Faerie, no forwarding address. (AO3)

You might also want to consider bringing Eder and Xoti, hint hint. Which, if you take Vatnir, would make a full party.

Good thing I haven't been ignoring Ydwin's development in this run. I'm making her a pure cipher since there doesn't seem to be much room for Serafen. I've also got plenty of good gear in storage she can make use of.

I'm going to wait until I get my new computer up and running first for a better gameplay experience. I should be able to get my save files from the Steam Cloud, right?

Let's see...My dual wielding Psypher Watcher, Eder, Xoti, Vatnir, and Ydwin? Seems like a solid party.

Wondering if I should make Vatnir a pure Priest, a Priest-Rogue, or a Priest-Chanter.

Since your Watcher is DPS and I'm guessing Eder is your tank and Xoti is kind of a melee Beast no matter what you do, I'd go ranged support, either Celebrant or possibly full priest if Xoti isn't. Vatnir defaults to two-weapons and wand proficiency, so if you've got A Whale of a Wand from Bekarna's Observatory you ought to be off to a good start.

In that case, I'm thinking of making Vantir a Celebrant and equipping him with the Whale of a Wand and that one sabre that boosts Chanters.

As for Ydwin, I'll either equip her with dual blunderbusses or dual pistols.
