I've explained all the plot that's been revealed so far. I've done only the opening mission and nothing else so I can't comment yet. Checking out the map there's still a few missions in the providence we're allowed to explore in the beta.
I'll tell you how the gameplay goes and the plot unfolds (in spoilers for everyone else) when I pick it up again.
Garcon: There are 50 guns in the game over all. You have to find and unlock guns and customization options.
Got my xbox key last night. The actual title on my xbox referred to it as a technical test.
The gun cases you find them in are in several provinces, it seems we only get a few in the beta and a few accessories as we only have access to one province.
March 7th I think.
Darn, I was hoping for a birthday present. >.<
Garcon: To be expected as it is Beta. I think it is mostly to shake out the early bugs and test load the servers. Just like they did with The Division.
Immy: Garcon is correct March 7th world wide.
Well Immy and I have been having tons of fun. Only a couple dozen civilian casualties and as many helicopter crashes.
How's other people?
In otherwords gar, were seal team six.
Immy: Wow. Lol.
I haven't had a chance to play yet. I got the code just as I was heading off to bed. But I will play tonight. I am half tempted to buy the damn game twice just play with you guys and my buddy in Texas.
Just beat all the story missions the beta had to offer. There weren't that many honestly nor were they overly long but I had fun. Probably because I had an awesome friend to play with.
Afterwards we decided to see how much we could piss Unidad off. The answer is very. They eventually overtook us and killed us with coordinated fire from three Apaches.
Ok I got my shot at the game last night. I played on Veteran the "normal" difficulty setting. I like it in general. I played solo to get a feel for the AI and will do MP with pubby match up after I get home from work today.
The appearance system is pretty nice. I have to say I am generally happy with it. I wish there was a bit more selectivity but what we have is pretty good. I am doing my impression of the Bolivian Predatory Gun Bearing Bush.
Combat feels pretty good. Clean hits produce the expected results especially with the higher power rounds. Body armor seems a bit more realistic in the protection it provides. You are not a bullet sponge yourself and it is pretty easy to get chewed up being stupid. Sniping is pretty easy and my preferred method of opening up into a broader attack. You are alarmingly easy to spot if you are too close and shooting. Which is actually a nice touch as even a suppressor can be heard close up. I feel that is a nice touch.
The drone is a very nice tool to have and plays a big role in recon. It is worth it to boost the battery and signal strength at least one level.
AI is so so. They have a surprising amount of freedom of movement even when you direct them. They will automatically seek cover and concealment and are smart enough to fire back when engaged. They hold positions reasonably well and if you que up a sync shot the move to a position to line it up. Telling them to free fire pretty much removes any control you have over them and they will go OFP changing position and firing on various enemy targets. I told them fire on a building and two of them stormed the building and cleared it which was kind of freaky. If you tell them to follow they tend to provide back up positions and move with you. Hold position they find positions and will fire at enemies when needed.
The downside is the lack of any precision control of the team which an make stealth a bit tricky. I found the best way to use them was to adopt a true hit and run strategy. I start out by picking off sentries and outer enemy elements and then turn them loose. I do what I need to such as tag supplies, snag intel, and capture targets while they tie down the other enemies usually eliminating them pretty quickly. I usually then rally them to me and beat feet as fast as possible into the nearest convenient piece of wilderness. Other then that the AI is ok.
Vehicle control of ground vehicle isn't too bad. They get kind of squirrely at speed but other then that I did ok. I don't like the helicopter control though. It is counter intuitive. They should have made it left stick controls forward and back motion while the right stick steers with the triggers controlling elevation. Instead all the directional controls are on the left stick which is clumsy to control. Air planes have no yaw control which makes doing accurate turns difficult. However landing is relatively painless.
I like the guns in general. The bullet impacts sound like you would expect them to and enemies react like you expect.
In general I like the game and look forward to playing it.
I do wish you could just sort of leave the drone in the air to check back to every so often like you could in Future Soldier.
Yeah that is kind of a downside. I would like to be able to park it and change position to improve my signal strength and let the battery recover so I can lift off from a key spot. Other then that it isn't all that bad. It operates like a special ability and you can unlock an explosive package which has me wondering how often you can use that.
Hrm, I am starting to become concerned. Having done all the missions and found all the goodies there really isn't anything to do in the beta anymore. Obviously in the full game I'd just move onto the next province but this does worry me about longentivity.
Although with 21 provinces and DLCs and other stuff I feel like it'll be a long time before it becomes an issue.
Also anyone else find it weird you unlock the M320 but you apparently gotta go hunt down and find the M203?
Or that they start us off with the 20 round mags. I didn't even know they made 20 round PMAGs

You can re-do missions and stuff once you finish off all of them.
Played it PC with a friend, 'twas pretty darn fun. Didn't really have any problems, though I didn't crank things up very high either. Couldn't say how it is in singleplayer, didn't touch that.
Glitched my way out of the map to look for more guns and stuff. Found some but also found a G36 on a dead cartel member. It was definitely one on the ground and it had a pickup icon that was absolutely a G36 but no text to it. It disappeared when I tried to collect it.
So just a sort of heads up then, there might be even more guns in the full game.
This might sound petty but does anyone else think “El Sueno" is a silly name for a drug lord? I mean, it SOUNDS ominous if you don't know Spanish, but "The Dream" sounds more like a luchador name. Unless those face tattoos are supposed to invoke a luchador aesthetic.

Every time I hear it I think of this.
There will be another beta for the game before launch, this time it's open.
And apparently is gonna take place in a different region than the closed one.
Just like they did for The Division.
So what did you guys find for fun in terms of faffing about? I played with the land mines and attacked random outposts to look through its contents. Also seeding major enemy road ways with mines is always amusing.
Pissing off Unidad and seeing how long we can hold out was fun until the attack choppers came.
After that there was a lot of screaming and gross sobbing and begging.

Screaming and gross sobbing?
Do I want to know?
Helicopters from the enemy are always bad news. I never escaped once they showed up so I kept my raids quick.
