As it says in the title, pitch your ideas for a feature film.

I have a lot of ideas, and here is one. It is a buddy cop movie about a By-the-Book Cop and an extreme Cowboy Cop who must team up to catch a drug dealer. The comedy is in their interactions, and they notably don't get along, but still have unmitigated disgust for the other. The film breaks the fourth wall constantly. Also, the Cowboy Cop is a female. One scene involves the two in a car, where the By-the-Book Cop wants to listen to soft music, while the Cowboy Cop wants to listen to heavy metal. Notably, the heavy metal song is "Trashed" by Black Sabbath, and the car ends up flying into the air when the lyrics come to "the ground was in my sky". I don't know who'd play the main roles, but for some reason, I wanted the By-the-Book Cop to be played by Eddie Murphy and the Cowboy Cop to be played by Marlee Matlin.

Ok. Leaving aside All the historical films I've pitched in the thread for that, I'll start with getting "reboot the DCU" out of the way.

That aside, while I don't have a lot of details, I'd like a film adaptation of The Oresteia, or a modernized version that removes some of the Values Dissonance, the only thing is do not change the conflict's resolution coming through a fair trial, I'd like to see "the system" actually working for a change.

I'd really like to see an adaptation of Harlan Ellison's Spider Kiss. And I've even envisioned it two ways.

1. Make it a Period Piece, therefore having it be a very faithful adaptation.

2. Update the story with a modern music genre like say Pop or maybe "Country" music like Luke Bryant, but have the story go down more or less the same as it did in the book.

First, I'd love I see a biopic for Ella Fitzgerald beginning with her Dark and Troubled Past and her rise to fame with her incredible voice. It could also explore race relations during The '40s and The '50s which, unfortunately, is still relevant today. There also needs to be something about her friendship with Marilyn Monroe.

Another one I'd love to see happen is about one of my favourite sibling rivalries, Olivia de Havilland and Joan Fontaine. Begin with their childhoods and their rise to movie screen stardom, and their inability to get past childhood grudges and to make up. It'd explore hollywood during its Golden Age and the bitter dynamic between these sisters.

Here's another one.

This is a Stoner Flick called Holland's Hope. It follows three young women (it would have been four, but I couldn't flesh out the fourth one). One deals marijuana and the other two smoke it. There are wacky adventures, and the soundtrack has songs of varying genres, but most revolve around smoking cannabis. Also, I want the tagline to be a spoof of stoner movie taglines that are puns related to pot. It says "Insert marijuana-related pun here."

I would personally like more historical period pieces, like more stuff from the 1700s and 1800s. Like, say, a thing about a young soldier in the British Army during the Seven Years' War fighting in North America/Europe, or something else like that. I could even make one up about the Battle of Texler in order to go for sheer craziness points.

I've been toying with a screenplay idea about an assassin, who functions as a Lemony Narrator, who is hired to kill an important target during some important gala event held at a fancy hotel, but in order to do it he has to go deep undercover as a room service person, and is forced to balance his otherwise badass heist-movie style antics with the irrational requests of the wacky guests and other patrons of the hotel, all while trying to maintain his cover.

Think Four Rooms with a touch of Edgar Wright and maybe a dash of Wes Anderson aesthetic.

Seconding the de Havilland - Fontaine one. Especially the parts where they claimed there was no feud and it had been a studio publicity stunt. Actually burying the hatchet for a while, or Suspiciously Specific Denial? Who know.

I got a couple of pitches for historical films:

  • A man sets out to save Jews. The only problem is his brother is a high ranking Nazi officer. (If that sounds familiar, yes, it's inspired by that man)
  • A German boy goes to America to seek the American Dream...right during the middle of The Great Depression. Just when he finally settles down, WWII breaks out.

The Slacker and the Murderer. The film is a comedy-thriller that contrasts the stories of a Brilliant, but Lazy slacker and a spree killer who clash in the climax. To prevent Egregious Mood Whiplash, the spree killer will be snarky (they both will be, but the murderer more so). The soundtrack will consist of songs of various genres. I was hoping this would be an adaptation of my novel (which doesn't exist, but will if I stop being lazy).

Three movies related to Joan of Arc (four kind of) and two others that I just have right now.

St. Joan of Arc (epic)

A complete story of her from childhood to her sainthood. I would want the film to be as accurate as possible (still have the angels/saints). I would like to cover her famous moments as well as the moments that get skimmed over most of the time. After Joan’s execution, it cuts to everyone's reaction to her death. Then cut to the end of the war where the king visits town and orders for a retrial. Following that is montage of depiction of Joan in pop culture (like Henry VI) as well as notable mentions of her in history. It would include brief scenes of the miracles that made her a saint, WW 1 soldiers praising her and ending with the canonization of her as a saint ( I'm thinking of something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25wf1sUFiKY ) A post credits would have Carl Theodor Dreyer approach Maria Falconetti to play Joan in The Passion of Joan of Arc (due to the importance of that film)

Length: 218.7 min (3h 38 min based on the average of 4 epics)

-Childhood: 20 min

-After-Childhood to pre-orleans: 37.5 min

-Orleans: 48.3 min

-After Orleans to Capture: 53 min (Intermission after the coronation)

-Trial: 50 min

-Road to Sainthood: 10 min

times mostly based on averages from other Joan of Arc films and can be subject to change

Budget: $170 million (based on the average of 10 epic films, higher than 6 of them)

Needed Revenue before breaking even (generally): $340 million

The Retrial of Joan of Arc

An adaptation of the book The Retrial of Joan of Arc and research of the trial that cleared Joan's name. Would cut out some of the parts that are just recreations of her life since it would be unnecessary.

Length: 80 min to 140 min (based on the first trial movies and the page count of the book)

Budget: $18 388 455.84 to $41 847 918.86 ($18.4 million to $41.85 million)

Needed Revenue before breaking even (generally): $36 776 911.68 to $83 695 837.72 ($36.8 million to $83.7 million)

The Miracles of Joan of Arc

Movie based on the miracles that made Joan a saint. See the process the Catholic Church goes through to canonize saints and the miracles themselves.

Length: 110 to 120 min

Budget: $18 388 455.84 to $41 847 918.86 ($18.4 million to $41.85 million)

Needed Revenue before breaking even (generally): $36 776 911.68 to $83 695 837.72 ($36.8 million to $83.7 million)

The Visions of Simone Machard

An adaptation of The Visions of Simone Machard play. Taking place during World War 2, the main girl has dreams of being Joan of arc.

Length: 98 min

Budget: $17.7 million

Needed Revenue before breaking even (generally): $35.4 million

Hana's Suitcase

An adaptation of Hana’s Suitcase play and real life story of Hana Brady. Another real life girl from World War 2 with an object attributed to her.

Length: 88 min

Budget: $17.7 million

Needed Revenue before breaking even (generally): $35.4 million

Yack Fest for this sort of topic, please. The Media forums should be about specific works, franchises, and creators.
