Your Cheating Heart isn't really a trope, it's just a topic: It's just any cheating. There's nothing specific about Your Cheating Heart. Cheating is handled a lot of different ways, and it's not all just one trope.

I propose Your Cheating Heart and Good Adultery, Bad Adultery should be turned into specific cheating tropes. For example (some vague ideas that definately need critique, but)

  • Sympathetic Adultery: The sympathetically portrayed cheaters half of Good Adultery, Bad Adultery (think Sympathetic Adultery is closer to the truth than Good Adultery, because there are almost no examples of adultery as being treated as good)
  • Immoral Adultery: The cheaters portrayed as wrong; the bad half of Good Adultery, Bad Adultery
  • Morally ambiguous cheating, where the cheating isn't consistently or solely portrayed as right or wrong
  • Double cheating: Alice and Bob are both cheating on each other, but when Alice finds out about Bob's cheating, she's furious at him for it.
  • Open cheating: Not polyamory because the spouse didn't ok, but when everyone kinda knows that someone's cheating. Mostly seen with royal marriages and stuff, where they don't have the power to leave their partner nor make them stop.

And then they should all be put in an index with the couple other cheating tropes we already have: Mistaken for Cheating, Affair Hair, Lipstick Mark, Affair Letters, The Mistress, Cuckold, Cheating with the Milkman

(And I'm not claiming that not all cheating is story relevant; I'm claiming that not all cheating is the same trope. For a simile, there are several different tropes that bad parents fall under; they're not all the same—you've got Abusive Parents, Parental Neglect, Archnemesis Dad, When You Coming Home, Dad?, ect.)

We need a lot more argument than this to start a TRS. Doubly so because you'd need to claim/prove that not all cheating is story relevant. Otherwise the argument is invalid.
