Misused: Deuteragonist

I think a lot of the examples in this trope are just wrong. The trope makes it clear the deuteragonist is someone who is just as important as the protagonist, not just a sidekick or a second-in-command. But looking at examples, it seems the default understanding of this is that the deuteragonist is whoever the 2nd most important character is at any given time.

Case in point, a lot of works in the examples are listed as having a different deuteragonist every arc. Listen, if your deuteragonist leaves the story at the end of the arc, they are not as important as the protagonist.

For example, the One Piece entry is just a long list of major characters, not as important as the protagonist (Luffy). The Zelda entry is a long list of sidekicks and exposition fairies.
