Assassin's Creed movement is set up like that because the platforming there is isn't based on testing your jumping skills, but to allow you to explore potential hiding spots and vantage points, given you are a parkour ninja, and not just a freerunner.

Yeah, if the parkour was based on having to push a button for literally everything you want to do, as in many games, it would get old and annoying really fast.

Pretty much. The point of a platformer is to platform, Assassin's Creed is not a platformer, it's a freeroam sandbox.

I get the point that he was trying to make, but I thought this was one of his weaker videos, like his DS 2 one.

This had apparently been taken down briefly by the BBC, so he reedited it and reuploaded it.

So, in essence, Sherlock is a mad gamble of misdirection. That's almost brilliant in a way. The great mystery is that there is no mystery and the show is just shit.

It's interesting that the show resorts to this strange tactic of needlessly drawing out plotlines and offscreen revelations, because it's really counter to how uncomplicated the books are. The reason why Conan Doyle hated writing so many Holmes stories was because he thought of them as insultingly easy to write. He admits as much in "How Watson Learned the Trick", where he teases 'all I have to do is mention a bunch of clues, Holmes to guess right, and then the reader thinks he's clever ". It's an easy formula, so why does the show insist on avoiding it?

I don't really like H Bomberguy. Mainly because I think he can be smug asshole (His Dark Souls 2 video), the more his videos go on the more he contradicts himself (The man needs a better editor) and in general his videos are way too long and can be shortened.

You gotta start somewhere.

His video on Dark Souls 2 makes a lot more sense when you consider some of the toxic discourse surrounding those games. It's less a dig at people who sincerely don't like those games for well-considered reasons than those who assume their opinions are holy writ and attack those who disagree. Same reason he's made a running joke of his sincere enjoyment of the Star Wars prequel films. This is particularly true of SA's media discussion forums, for the record.

You know, it's kind of weird but more and more I find that complaints about youtube videos being too long is really a matter of preference on the part of the viewer rather than quality of the video. And really this only applies to youtube videos; there's a group that insists that videos should be short, as if short and snappy is the only effective way to get a message across. Nevermind that the maker may have had several points they wanted to get to in one video, or that they genuinely had that much to say about one subject, youtube videos must be short!

Also Hbomberguy has several videos of varying length. He doesn't really seem to care about sticking to a specific length for all his videos. Each one will take however long he thinks they should take. And it seems like he thinks his videogame reviews should take longer. Frankly, I kind of like that, since I can hardly ever find any videos about games that go over ten minutes. And, in H's case, it serves him well because he really gets into an entire game. (Probably helps that he's reviewing older games and thus not trying to avoid spoilers.)

I mainly watch H Bomb for the politics. I've mentioned it once or twice before but I first started paying real attention to online culture about a year ago and was horrified by what I saw. Luckily, someone on SA linked me to H Bomb's video on Virtue Signaling (a phrase a lot of people I knew at the time un-ironically used) and another person linked me to Contra Points and those two plus all the others I found thanks to them showed that You Tube and stuff wasn't just the stomping ground of reactionaries and trolls.

Point is, I just ignore his other stuff because I loved Fallout 3.

I still think Dark Souls 2 is bad, for the record but Hbomberguy is hardly the only person who's spoken up in defense of it. I don't understand their opinions but it's not a big deal to me. I've enjoyed some of his gaming videos but the politics are a big reason why I watch him like Nikk said.

If it wasn't for the current political climate I would have a hard time taking The Golden One seriously. He feels more like a politically incorrect parody character than a real person.

Hbomberguy is the best way to laugh at that part of youtube, without subjecting yourself to listening to them entirely. Some might call it intellectual cowardice, or not hearing out the other side, I call it saving on time.

Hbomber's strength and weakness lie in the same area. In fact it's the same thing: he's extremely easy to amuse (count the amount of times he cracks up into laughter saying something like "holy shit") and extremely easy to exasperate (count the amount of times he speaks through his teeth frustrated), which is highly entertaining when he's dealing with fanatical right-wing nazis, but I can see how it would get grating talking about something as mundane as Fallout.

Me, I'm fine with him and his odd opinions. Even when I disagree with him he still brings up good points. You just gotta get used to his overdramatic approach to talking about absolutely everything.

I think Hbomberguy's er... contrariness and sometimes arrogant way of talking about things is a bit of a stylistic choice to deconstruct the Caustic Critic style that's so prevalent on the internet by making it clear how annoying it can get. While I don't remember the exact point in the video (I believe it may be during the conclusion), close to the end of his critique of DS 2 he starts talking about how it's fine to like or dislike stuff and bandwagoning.

I like that hbomberguy left that bit about AS telling his audience that LGBT people deserve to be respected too. I think Nikkolas posted in some other thread about how his ideology isn't really malice so much as laziness and I'm getting the impression that might actually be the case.
