You guys can rest easy now because that thing about Mark Gatha was a joke by Lucas Gilbertson and he apologized for it.
But I still don't see him returning to voice X, since I think he's content with his job as a doctor.
I liked Marvel 2's OCs. Don't ever see them coming back though. Amingo in particular, since these are about promotion as much as they are gameplay.
@The clones in Smash.
It's worth noting that most of the clones in Smash at this point are popular characters that were grandfathered in from earlier games - Roy, especially, returned in DLC because he's a classic Melee character. Lucina, on the other hand, was originally an alternate costume who was given a character slot in a Sure, Why Not? moment.
Both of those are rather unique circumstances, which don't say a lot about whether we would see clones in this game.
Capcom seems to be moving away from clones more and more as time passes. Ken was redesigned to be much more distinct from Ryu in his most recent appearance, for instance. While I expect Akuma to not be changed in a major way when he returns to V, that's because his moveset is very iconic - and has always operated very differently from Ryu's in practice despite looking almost identical to it on paper - so it's another case of grandfathering.
I wouldn't be surprised if we got some older characters who either are or were originally clones - for example, on the off chance we get Roll - but I wouldn't hold my breath for them actively creating new ones.

I really wish they'd get to announcing characters we didn't already expect to be in. There have been no surprises so far.

This song needs more love.It looks fine but his iconic classic costume is iconic. It's a game so you don't have to deal with things like practicality, so just do the fun thing and give him the spandex and make the tacticool ones bonuses or DLC.
Should've used his space to bring in Kamala since he was already confirmed.

@Lionheart:
I don't know about most popular, Venom as a villain can be a base breaker. That and Doc Ock almost made it in last time, so he has a decent shot this time.
Accidentally. Besides, it's better to get the ones obviously returning first.
And his costume seems to be movie inspired.
It's fine either way, his other looks will probably be alts.

I'd consider Captain Marvel a surprise as far as many laymen are concerned. Heck a lot of the reaction I was seeing on fighting game forums was along the lines of "She looks cool but who the fuck is she?"
That said, it'd be better if they did larger reveals. I want to hear more new characters, but from a business standpoint I can see why they've chosen to make a big reveal of the dude who just had a billion dollar movie earlier this year, particularly with the stated goal of winning over more casual fans.
I don't think Captain Marvel's that surprising, considering all the push Marvel's been giving her the past several years. Biggest surprise is probably X, if only because I don't think anyone thought they'd finally put him in something.
As for Captain America, I've actually really liked how the MCU's approached it, and it's cool to see it translated here, but it does look....off. Like it's got a very semi-hard plastic look to it.

To people who don't really pay attention to Marvel sure and she would have been a surprise a few years ago but lately she has been pushed to the point of being Marvel's Wonder Woman and she has a movie coming out soon. Anyone with a working knowledge of Marvel nowadays shouldn't be surprised in the least.
X is even less of a surprise. He was just in a crossover game and the only reason he wasn't added to 3 was because Capcom felt he was too similar to Zero (who was added due to fan demand).

Heck they might add new ones in this game. I just hope it's not Captain Ersatzes of the X-Men because they didn't want to use them. Especially since it'd be so nakedly transparent that it'd still end up acting as whatever advertising they were hoping to deny them.
