It's a longshot, but I'd be so happy if Lynne from Ghost Trick made it in as a Puppet Fighter with the help of Sissel. She may not be the protagonist, but she has a better shot than him on account of not being an incorporeal ghost.

If they actually do ditch all X-Men and FF-affiliated characters I imagine a lot of tourney people are going to absolutely riot. It's not like the SSB 4 Snake situation where a character beloved in the tourney scene was absent because of licensing issues. Marvel actually owns these characters, they're just not going to let them in over a stupid grudge.
I mean, if they cut down the mutant roster to the bare essentials that's one thing. Previous Mv C games suffered from a glut of them. But ditching characters like Storm, Phoenix, Magneto, and even Wolverine? That would upset way more people than it's worth. The X-Men are still hugely popular in their own rights, and Marvel still makes money off of these characters when it's not in film form. Would be a colossally idiotic move. Then again Perlmutter has shown himself to be incredibly petty and Stupid Evil at times. If they absolutely must, then I'd rather see the X-Men characters turned into DLC than blacklisting them completely.

Captain Commando was in both MvC1 and MvC2. Also, the Monster Hunter dev team apparently shot down the idea of a single individual Hunter character in MvC3, as they didn't want to imply that there was a single main character/weapon-style (why they didn't go for the obvious plan B of using either a Palico or one of the monsters as a character is beyond me).

I can't help but think that Breath of Fire Ryu has no chance because of the name conflict with Street Fighter Ryu.

You know, I'm not sure how it'd work, but I would love it if they could use MCU Quicksilver, and just make him a straight up expy of X-Men Quicksilver.

I don't find her that interesting either but apparently a lot of people do and it's not like an appearance here couldn't be a good opportunity at her making a mark for herself, like Carol's other appearances can with her. After all the Iron Man films salvaged Tony's character when his comics depiction was basically Fuhrer Stark.

She also has the same "Boring powers" issue as Kamala.
If you just need a physical fighter put in Iron Fist or Luke Cage.
No offense, but just because you keep saying that over and over and over and over again doesn't actually make it so. Multiple people in this very forum and other sites I've seen across the web have expressed interest in having Ms. Marvel as a character.

True, but Chavez just has flight and enhanced strength. That's...dull compared to at least Iron Fist.

Again, a lawyer who has nothing resembling fighting ability at all made it in as a playable character. "Boring powers" is a non-existent argument for this franchise.

Well there's also the fact I don't care about Chavez compared to Iron Fist but that's straight bias. That's not really a good reason to exclude a character.
No offense, but you just proved that you don't know anything about America's powers, it's not just strength and flight. In fact , her powers are flashy enough to fit perfectly in a Marvel vs Capcom game.
Same with Kamala Khan, who's power is not just stretching. Again, no offense, but it doesn't seem like you are a good judge of their powers, since their powers can do more than what you're saying.
Ok, then just say that it's because of personal bias. But don't claim it's because of "boring powes", when you don't know what their powers are.
By the same token, respect that other people have a different opinion than yours and do want characters like Kamala and America in the game.
And making false claims about their powers won't change their minds either.

Depends on if they're paired with same company characters, alternate company characters or both.
Street Fighter X Tekken did same company, but also picked some weird and awesomely unexpected combinations, both for humor (Zangief/Rufus, Ibuki/Rolento or Yoshi/Raven) and just in general (Sagat/Dhalsim, Bob/Julia).
Cap and Iron Man are a given.
