So they made a MvC Collection website that includes all the character portraits from every game
Which is really cool, some fantastic art.
As always the obscure picks fascinate me, who let Blackheart in here? That guy's a Ghost Rider villain. Like not a complaint, cool that he's here, just very interesting the story behind his pick.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I imagine that's one of the reasons people loved Marvel vs. Capcom 2. It wasn't all "what characters make the most sense?" there was a lot of "Wouldn't it be cool to have this character? Marvel, can we add this character?" "Yeah, that would be dope! Do it!" And on the Capcom side, I assume they could do pretty much whoever. Maybe they had to get some creator permissions?
Maximillian talked about it in one of his recent videos on the subject. TL;DR Marvel had way less pull during the development of the old MvC games because their comics were going through a bust period following the big 90s comic boom, so Capcom was able to get away with a lot more instances of "this character looks cool, can we use them?" for things like Blackheart and Shuma-Gorath.
There was some synergy in that the X-Men were the biggest sellers of the Marvel line then and so most of the characters in the first few games were from the X-Men books. MVC 2 having two Wolverines is one of the most known instances of literal Wolverine Publicity.
Please remember that, ultimately, fictional works of entertainment are just that.Wildcard picks are always some of my favorites. But then you got lame nerds who complain of "Wasted slot!" Unlike enlightened nerds like me.
You are not alone.Nice little interview from EVO that brings up the future of the series
:
“The development team at Capcom has big dreams,” he said. “Maybe there is an opportunity for a new Marvel vs Capcom game. Maybe there is an opportunity for a new Capcom-based SNK game. I don’t know. But, if that were to happen, that would take some time and effort in order create and release those kinds of games, but the short-term with what we can do now is at least reintroduce these past legacy games to a new audience, to people who may not have the opportunity to play it, because it might not be out on modern or current platforms."
“What we can at least do now is to show that, hey, these series exist. We love these games. We hope that you do too, and maybe in the future, if people get to familiarize themselves with these series, then there may be future opportunities to make bigger games.”
Of course, many players were simply jazzed that this collection even happened in the first place. We had to ask how it came about, and what conversations occurred between Capcom and Marvel (now owned by Disney) to produce this welcome gift to the fighting game scene.
Matsumoto also told us something surprising; Marvel is very much aware of the vibrant community of Mv C players, and they still pay attention to competitive tournaments despite the most active games in the series being well over a decade old.
According to Matsumoto, both sides were keen on bringing this collection to life — and based on our conversation, it looks like future projects might hinge on players’ overall interest in the collection of arcade classics.
“In terms of past Capcom-developed Marvel titles, this has been something that myself and the team have been wanting to re-release for years and years now. It was just a matter of timing and making sure that everyone was on board. We’ve actually been in talks with Marvel for years now to see whether we can make this happen.
“They were also on board. Because of that, it’s kind of like the stars aligned. The timing was great, and now we are actually able to bring it to life. We’re all very excited. And some of the inspiration about doing this was that Marvel took notice of community-based tournaments at places like EVO.
“With Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and other Marvel tournaments happening, they know that people really love the series and really want these games to be available on modern platforms, so now is the chance for them to do so.”
Let's hope this collection does well so they know there's interest in an MVC 4.
Based on nothing but vibes, expect MVC4 announced at Evo next year, due September 2026. This is my long distance called shot that will totally not be wrong. Also uhh reveal trailer will be Ryu & Cyclops doing the handshake in the RE engine, first gameplay is those two, Leon, Morrigan, Miles Morales, and Thor.
Speaking seriously, I do fully expect a new game at this point, feels like an inevitability, cuz there’s NO way this collection sells like anything but hotcakes.

That interview all but explicitly says that there's no new game in the works. If the legacy games sell well, they can begin talks. If they actually get the okay from Disney, they can start work, and that would take a few years. I'd say 28 is the earliest I'd expect a theoretical MvC5. Though I'm not sure how likely any Vs game is, and the need to get Disney to agree to reasonable terms makes Marvel in specific difficult
I don't think we'll see an announcement for a new Capcom Vs Anybody crossover game until SF 6 starts to slow down, which isn't happening for a long, long time by the looks of it.
Similar to how SNK is handling the new Garou in relation to KOF XV.

Last time they did a big push like this and released MVC Origins, it took two years to announce a new game. Id expect a similar window here.
They wouldn't be speaking so candidly about the possibility of a new game if they weren't pushing for it to happen. But these things take time and active negotiation with other parties. And Disney is who they're negotiating with, so having extra push from fans can only help.
Yeah. It’s been argued that Capcom went a bit too hot too fast with the post-SF IV fighting push, so I suspect they’ll space it out like NRS or SNK this time. I listen to Jeff Gerstmann’s podcast and he similarly speculated that we could see a new Marvel vs Capcom once SF 6 is old enough that it’s no longer the fighting game division’s main priority.

I was also under the impression that Harpuia was a she my knowledge of things not OG or X is really lacking huh.
You are not alone.
