Masamune-kun no Revenge ep. 1:
And I thought Aki Adagaki was a complete b***h who should get blown up by Killer Queen
. (Keeping her hand optional.) I also wouldn't be surprised if she appears in one of those Break the Cutie / Break the Haughty -style H-doujins... (Off-topic: Is Aki an even bigger ice queen than Erina Nakiri?)
But after seeing that Aki suffers from hypoglycemia
and shows her more (private) human side ( Maybe she actually has No Social Skills growing up in a lonely mansion? [/wmg]), I'm starting to feel rather conflicted on whether Masamune-kun should get his revenge, or all of this is just one big misunderstanding that should get sorted out.
Also, I would have found Masamune himself being a totally unlikable person as well (rich, vain kid) if not for the fact that his inner snarkiness is entertaining to watch, and is voiced by Natsuki Hanae (who I also remember from another show that had a similar love and revenge subplot—except it had Cool Planes and warships that float in the sky).
And for the manga readers, was the first episode faithful to the manga or were there some changes?
Demi-chan wa Kataritai up next, after doing three skirmish games on Company of Heroes 2's supply
event

Yeah, I was kind of annoyed it wasn't an adaption of the game's main story. It's more for those who actually played the game.
Also, just watch the movie by the same name. The TV show is literally just the movie cut up into half hour segments, plus the movie came out before so you can basically watch the anime ahead of it's running time.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash. It rearranged a few things, added a few extra scenes, and showed characters who weren't introduced in the manga until way later (but logically should have been there from the beginning).
I'd describe it as "trying to smooth out some things that weren't fully thought out in the early manga".
Ah, so bits and pieces of Adaptation Expansion then. Thanks.
And I'm honestly intrigued by Neko Fujinomiya and how she will affect Masamune's plans for revenge.
Anyway...
Demi-chan wa Kataritai ep. 1:
That was a rather fun start... And the exposition/world-building was paced quickly enough for it not to be overbearing. I'm liking this show already.
As for the Meganekko teacher (Sakie Satou), besides being an Expy of Kumiko Yamaguchi looks-wise, was that Yōko Hikasa voicing her? (*Searches MAL*... I Knew It!.) And she's a succubus who only wears that getup to avoid evoking sexual thoughts? (Meganekkos are still kinda sexy, though... And yeah, I'm curious what she looks like if she goes full-on succubus mode...even though I know this isn't an ecchi series like Daily Life with Monster Girl.)
I also like Hikari Takanashi's colorful personality, too.

It's like, the shocking twist falls flat on it's face when you start the series with it, and without seeing the adventures of the characters, they just come off as super-generic cardboard cutouts. I can guess what they were going for, but without proper foundation it just comes off as Bad End Angst: The Animation.
Watching the 2014 OVA series helps a bit when it comes to characters, but it's too short and detached from this series to fill in the gap.
Truth be told, this isn't even how the game went. You actually managed to beat the Black King and save the day. Only to get stuck in a pirate adventure when you go looking for the Chronicle the King had.
This, this was a surprise for me. The story went off-track from the game's, and two characters were shown that weren't even in the game, this guy that can manipulate mana, and that knight with the white or silver hair that has that hood.
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash.Well, I enjoyed it, but I admit this is poor advertising for the series. Especially the TV show. It's basically the movie for free! That's going to hurt it at the box office.
But if you want to see the story, here. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIfiqdrRcGM8JhA4zu8q5fQ/playlists
This is a Youtube channel a CC forum I was a part of collaborated together on when Gumi announced they were closing the global server. Everyone(including me) sent in their CC account info to this one person, who recorded the character stories and such we had, and put it all together on a channel.
It's has a good portion of character stories, though some are missing due to time constraints the uploader had, (had a family emergency or something on the last day of the game), or because they weren't in the accounts sent.
But it does have all the special episodes, which are like anime movies or OV As in terms of plot. Not sure where they fit in, and no real effect on the main plot. It also has the Chain Stories which are almost the same, but focuses on characters whose ingame art was done by the same artist, and gives some great development for characters.
Don't be daunted by the amount of videos, they aren't too long.
It doesn't have the main story, but you can find that here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9GSPVYotlXCYSHJQ7hNDfDYdfHrk9CNC
. Ignore the Allies cutscenes on this one. It's basically their character stories. The only difference is that I think they show the recruitment scenes. The free quests are different from the special episodes.
They only closed the Global Server. Game's still going strong in Japan. Has a bunch of crossovers, like Blazblue, Seven Deadly Sins, Dangenronpa, Valkyrie Chronicles, Maou Yuusha... probably more that I'm not remembering.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash. The worst part is that it closed down shortly after it's one year anniversary. IT'S ANNIVERSARY. Hence I now fucking hate Gumi.
Apparently there's a way to download the Japanese version but I can't read that, and I played the game for the characters so I didn't bother to learn how to download it.
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash.Wonder if I'll even bother watching Chain Chronicle, then. I really liked the game when it was available, but I ended up leaving because the P 2 W elements just got utterly insane with every update, and I'm guessing that's what killed the Global server. Such a shame, because it had some of the best character stuff in a mobile game I've seen, though a lot of it was probably fairly generic, to be fair.
Anyways...
- Fuuka: Well, Fuuka went from a bitch to a... fairly nice person with no transition in half an episode. Okay then. Remove her intro and suddenly I don't really have much to complain about this one... not much else to really say about it either, though. Koyuki will probably go full Kotonoha at some point, maybe?
- Akibas Trip: Silly as hell. Might as well watch it.
- Urara Meirochou: Cute girls being cute is always a plus. Unless it's not. This was fun as hell to watch, at least.
- Masamune's Revenge: Surprisingly entertaining. Gonna continue with this.
- Interviews With Monster Girls: Oh hey, this isn't a shitty fanservice show that relies on monstergirls as a gimmick, but a show with fun characters. Plus the MC isn't some sex-shy highschooler. Awesome.
No official subs for Little Witch Academia sadly, its being held hostage by netflix as usual for their series.

I don't think that what did it in, rather it was, according to a comment on kissanime,"It's not Sega's fault that Global version shutdown, it's Gumi's fault for giving the players poor customer service, permanent bugs every game patch, and the 2k arcana coins gacha brought about their downfall because of huge chance of getting the featured arcana their sales dropped greatly...Their sales dropped real bad to the point they had to close the game." This seems accurate from what I remember, except for the gacha thing. That was more towards the end.
But watch it anyway. It's great to see the Volunteer Army again.
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash.Demi-chan: A bit better than the manga, I'd say. Which means that I still don't really see the appeal
Idol Jihen: Almost impressive in how obviously and immediately terrible it is (also, I'm not really feeling up to joking about politics at the moment)
Little Witch Academia: Well, Akko isn't as much of a jackass in this version. On the other hand, it's bordering on being a Sadist Show now. Not entirely my speed, but that's better than most things this season. Probably going to follow
élDLIVE Episode 1: This seems a bit meh at the moment but there is some potential in it with an interesting setting and a main character with some interesting abilities.

Tanya the Evil: So it's set in World War II and adds mages to the conflict and one of the characters is voiced Hayami- hey wait a fucking minute, didn't we have this literally just one season ago!?

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Onihei: Wants to be a live-action series, and an older one at that. Decent production values, but the story isn't anything that hasn't been done better elsewhere
Gabriel Dropout: Huh, the anime version has much less cringe. Decent comedy, may follow
No it isn't. This is the great war

"Fuuka", for me the opening episodes were... okay. Really, just okay. Still, it's not bad, so I'll continue watching it for the time being.
"Seiren", is in the same boat as "Fuuka" above, though I do like the character design here a bit more.
"Urara Meirochou", it was supposed to be a comedy? Girls are really cute, though.
"Demi-chan wa Kataritai" this one is actually looking quite good after ep.1, despite a few moments that made me raise an eyebrow (Dullahan-ism being more likely to occur as random mutation than something hereditary? Really?). Hopefully, it manages to stay like that for the rest of the season. Also, the Takanashi sisters are actually twins, huh?
