So I binged Kemono Friends. The main thing that's driving it's popularity is definitely the character designs (fanart quantity scales primarily to design quality), but the show itself is a pretty decent kids' series if you can get past the dubious animation. The central mystery is surprisingly compelling, there's good use made of the various animals, and it does a truly impressive job of having different things go on each episode. That is, it's not just the character designs but the series composition that's high-quality
I don't understand why they went with CG, though. There's a huge number of unique characters and the scenery constantly changes, but not a whole lot of action— it's everything that's difficult for CG but little that plays to it's strengths
So, I started watching Scum's Wish since there's a big group watch of it over on Neogaf. Boy does it take a giant shit on the Childhood Friend Romance trope.
I mean, Works Pages Are A Free Launch. Just go ahead a make one, and add a few examples to start. If enough people are into it, it'll get filled out and refined. It works. Stuff like Girlish Number and Scum's Wish didn't have pages for a while, and then they were created and are pretty respectable now.
So... to make a page, you just make a red link, click it, and... edit it, right?
like this... ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. ?
I should know this, I did it before...
Edit: did it <3
Need a picture, and probably a better summary. I just copied it from Crunchyroll... Also, how do you make it so it shows up with a colon after "Acca"? Also, so Marginal #4 shows up as Marginal #4...

I haven't watched anime in a while, save for JoJos Bizarre Adventure, so I wouldn't mind some recommendations in the same vein. Even older shows, because there's a ton I haven't seen.
I'm trying to stay away from anything involving molestation/rape/abuse, incest, and lolicon, because they tend to make me uneasy. (Unless they're handled with tact, then maybe I can give them a shot.) I like badass women (and men), snarky humor, good action, detailed artwork, and I can stomach some horror.
(Speaking of Kemono Friends, was Crunchy-hime really in the most recent episode? That's kind of amazing.)

“Dude, sucking at something is the first step to being sorta good at something!” - Jake the Dog
What's it about? I've been living in a hole re: anime for a good, long while now.
I know there was one anime everyone had been telling me to avoid because it was like, "Worst anime ever created," but I think that one was called Hand Shakers, or something.
“Dude, sucking at something is the first step to being sorta good at something!” - Jake the Dog. . . . . . . hand shakers isn't that bad. It's not particularly good, but it has positive points (namely, that Tazuna and Koyori are ridiculously adorable). People like to exaggerate.
Acca is still brilliant and wonderful, though. Everyone should watch that. (There's no fighting in it at all, but to me, that's a positive)

Sheltered schoolgirl gets dragged into a battle for the power hidden in living creatures' imaginations, experiences the mother of all comings-of-age/sexual awakenings. Think Neon Genesis Evangelion, only the gay romance works out considerably better for the characters involved.
Hands Shakers is pretty bad, not that bad, no. It's remarkable because a hell of lot of effort time, money and effort went into making something that doesn't work on any level. It'd be merely generic if it wasn't trying to be great.
ACCA is good if 'subdued bureaucratic intrigue' is a thing that sounds appealing to you. Which is not going to be everyone, and it's not good enough that I can recommend it if that's not you.
Though probably the best currently airing show that's not a sequel is Little Witch Academia. Imagine Harry Potter as a Cartoon Network show made by the guys behind Guren Lagann and Kill La Kill. Though there's no fanservice at all, if that was a thing that turned you off about Kill La Kill.

Since this is the Winter 2017 thread I'll start with some recs from this season, and toss in a show from last season.
- Youjo Senki
- Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen
As for the last season:
- Yuri!!! on ICE

Acca has moved way past the "subdued bureaucratic intrigue" phase. It's now about 20% that, 20% royal intrigue (not very subdued), 20% intense friend/Ship Tease emotional things between Jean and Nino.... and 40% Food Porn.
But I'm actually really happy that people who expected a serious spy drama are still watching and enjoying it after the episode with the princess hugging a giant cake, and the one with the high school flashback with that really soft, sweet insert song.

All the inexplicable Food Porn note is what I'd call one of the biggest flaws with the show.
But well, it's still very subdued- I can think of exactly one sequence where anyone who's not comic relief has even raised their voice, and it's still very much making a point of putting the focus entirely on the lowest ranking people who have any sense of what's going on.
From Last Year, I'd say Re Zero as a recommendation
for this season, I'd say Kuzu No Honkai, but its kind of mature and has some very uncomfortable topics, so I'm not sure if you'd like it.
Watch Symphogear

Marginal #4 is actually pretty good for a cute-idols-doing-cute-things show, and the music and choreography are way better than most idol shows.
I just rewatched the episode 5 ending. Rui is so precious.
