I actually expected Medusa to be the leading lady.....
I always used to get Serinda Swan mixed up with Taylor Cole, I imagine the giant red hair will make it easier for me to tell the difference.
If I had to guess, I figure they'll probably do a mix of practical and digital effects for her hair-giant massive wig, and then CGI hair anytime she actually uses her powers.
Additional castings posted by Entertainment Weekly, including an indication that Lockjaw will appear
. I'm very much looking forward to the show.
One thing that surprises me is that Crystal is one of the characters. I guess there's no reason she shouldn't appear, but if I'm recalling correctly (haven't read that many comics) she's Johnny Storm's main love interest, right? If so, it's interesting that she avoids being a Fox character and other characters (i.e. Doctor Doom) don't.
I don't know if I'd call her his main love interest. She had a child with Quicksilver, though I don't think they were ever married.
The Skrull Lyja (who was pretending to be Alicia Masters) is probably Johnny's "main" love interest. They got married and everything.
I'd watch this show just for Lockjaw, but it actually looks like its shaping up to be pretty good. And at least Karnak's not the only Asian on the show now.
All of the Inhumans originated in the Fantastic Four and Medusa has even been a member of the team at several points. That's not how the rights breakdown works, otherwise Marvel wouldn't be able to use any of the Inhumans. Or Black Panther. Or Ronan the Accuser.

I thought Johnny Storm's relationship with Crystal was some case of Strangled by the Red String that people didn't like?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I mean, maybe.
This was in the Dark Ages before the internet so people couldn't spew their hate about any given topic whenever they wanted.
That being said, Crystal is unique in her connection to the Inhumans, the Fantastic Four (which she was a part of when she subbed in for Susan) and the Avengers.
So, am I the only one who finds some of the casting a little . . . problematic? Karnak, the martial arts guy, is Asian. Because of course he is. He's quiet, contemplative and does martial arts, so of course they cast an Asian. Even worse, though: Gorgon. Gorgon is a big, dumb, violent brute. Hyper-aggressive, reckless, often contemptuous of intellectualism. And . . . he's black. Like, I'm not the only one who thinks that's weird, right? That it plays into some really bad stereotypes?
Am I the only one who found that really weird? I think it probably actually would have worked better if they'd reversed it. An Asian as Gorgon, a black man as Karnak. As it is, it just feels like lazy casting based on harmful stereotypes.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. It's not just you. That being said, they've managed to spin the violent black guy stereotype in some different ways with Mac on AOS and Luke Cage, so I'm hopeful there. Also Ken Leung is good at playing snarky, verbal characters and the recent Karnak comic by Warren Ellis has pushed the character into some decidedly more cynical, acid-tongued directions (par for the course for a Warren Ellis protagonist), so my hope is they'll go some different places than the obvious for Karnak here.
It is what it is. I'm just happy to see Ken Leung get cast. He's underrated.

There was a point in time when he transformed into a much more stronger and brutish version, but that was because he had been exposed to Terrigen mists for a second time and that eventually faded away — he's not usually brutish or stupid.
I uh actually had the same thought as Tiamatty but was hesitant to voice it because I didn't want it to come across that I was racist myself/alleging that Everything Is Racist.
But yeah, when reading this part of Gorgon's description, "The ying to his cousin Karnak’s (Ken Leung) yang, Gorgon would rather fight than talk to solve his problems.”- I definitely raised an eyebrow at the ethnicity of the actors cast (and not cast) for those characters.
"Of course" the quiet and philosophical character is played by an Asian-American actor and "of course" the character who is impulsive with a Hair-Trigger Temper is played by an African- American Actor.
Definitley makes me at least a bit uncomfortable (pending watching the actual show) and it would have been a lot more original to have flipped which actor played which character.

Yeah, Marvel's generally been pretty decent about avoiding stereotypes. But it does also have a . . . let's say "mixed" history of racial representation. What with the Ancient One whitewashing controversy, and keeping Iron Fist white despite the cultural appropriation built into the character. So I still have concerns about the casting choices for Karnak and Gorgon.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.A perspective from an
actual Asian,:
"Asian as martial artist" *isn't an AUTOMATIC stereotype*—it's a stereotype if **that's all you ever show As Ams doing.** +
I know non-Asians screaming "Stereotype!" at the prospect of an Asian actor playing a martial artist is well-meaning, but it's kind of misguided.
