"I'll be back for this later," Gramps said, placing his flagon back on the bar - though taking one last sip from it. For good luck. "Alright, these bastards chose the wrong village to raid, let's give them hell," he said, patting the bear on his hood for a little bit more luck and then grabbing his magical staff in his hands.

Charging forwards, he positioned himself near a wall so that he could use his bulk to block off anyone from entering on that half of the entrance. "Give 'em hell, boy," he shouted at Eridan, and then cast a healing spell on the young man.

Move to F4, use heal on Eridan at E4.

"Buckley Armstrong, at tha' service," said Buckley with a flourish of the lance. "Nae's too hot nor too heavy!"

Not completely true. The deer carcass was rather heavy and had started to smell a little in the heat, and Buckley was glad to unlash the travois frame and its cargo in front of the inn. "Hiya, Sir Tigra, sah!" he said, as formally as he could. "Ah beg your pardon, yin dinner took a little time."

Too many enemies, swarmed together too tightly, too far away. As tempting as it was to charge, this was a fortification.

Buck patted his horse. "Nae's to fear, Nixie," he said quietly. "The dust will be flyin', soon. Just thee wait."

Buckley to G3.

Zeera paused to think. She had gone through mountains in her travels, and maybe she had done some of her ventures out at night but most of her travels were through forests and desert.

But if they did to it, without giving the bandit people any time to prepare, then it could work.

"Maybe..."

Just as Zeera tried to offer her suggestion, she saw Sir Tigra begin to head outside.

The fight has started.

Huh, maybe the bandits did know we were coming.

It was part of the reason why Zeera thought it might have been a good idea to attack the hideout as soon as possible. The longer they waited here, the more likely the bandits would be to learn about their mission. Zeera never gave any warnings whenever she needed to take what she needed.

This was likely an attempt to forestall their offensive, or just a raid plain and simple. If Zeera was a bandit, she would have likely tried to kill that guide person, or anyone else who might know where they're hiding.

Everyone else was bolting out the inn too. As Zeera headed out, she too could see figures off in the distance.

The lady in black uniform - Gertrude - suddenly ran off towards one of the gaps in the walls, and shortly after, the mustache man rode off on his wyvern.

Everything's happening so fast.

Zeera tried to survey her surroundings. There was an archer across the river, and a few more men coming in from farther away. A large tree stood nearby. Maybe if it was cut down, it could be used to bridge the wide gap.

There was a small group of bushes up ahead. She could hide there, blast the archer across the river, and then use it to help protect herself against the archers. The arrows could shoot over walls, after all, but so could her fire.

The boy Eridan beat her to it though.

Seems he knows what he's doing.

Zeera then looked around to see whether there were any other possible paths to the inn, though it didn't seem like there were that many.

Though, just as she was thinking that, she saw another man come riding in from the side on a horse.

What is he...

"Wah!"

Zeera jumped aside as she saw a giant, armored bear of a man step past, though she quickly regained her composure.

Gramps was his name, right?

Zeera looked around between all the various combatants. Usually, she had time to observe and think things through before acting. How else would she have gotten past all those guards and taken out all those people without getting captured or overwhelmed, even with magic?

Zeera stepped to the side, trying to get a better view of everything. She wanted to see what was going on with Gertrude, but she also wanted to be around for when the bandits came close.

Move to H3, do nothing else this turn.

Gertrude let out a gasp in pain. Her fight with the axe bandit was going well. But another bandit jumped out of nowhere and slashed at her ribs. As the two bandits closed into her, she quickly glanced behind her. Gertrude saw many bandits creeping up on her comrades. Gertrude gritted her teeth. I was careless again. Stupid! Useless! She rushed back to the group, her head filled with what happened the last time she made a mistake.

Zeera looked back and forth on the battlefield. The archer wasn't completely dead, though there was little she could do about it. More bandits were coming up from the middle.

Gertrude however, seemed to have taken a hit from a swordsman coming up from the side, though the axeman looked like he was beaten pretty bad.

Now that she thought of it, Gertrude looked a lot better equipped to hold off the guys near the front. There was also that Buckley guy that just showed up, and he might do better against that swordsman.

Zeera glanced over at the newly arrived horseman, and then ran for the opening in the wall, pulling her tattered tome out of her sack.

"Get back!"

As she said this, however, she already saw the warrior running back towards the center.

Once she stood within the opening, Zeera proceeded to conjure a ball of fire with her tome, and then lobbed it over at the axeman. Once she was sure the spell no longer required her attention, she looked behind her, ready to jump out of the way if and when one of the others chose to charge past her.

Move to K4. Use Fire Tome on Axeman at M4.

Grendan glanced back to assess the situation, then turned more completely for a better look. "I think we'd better reinforce the center, Heath..." he whispered to his mount before doubling back, timing his strike to avoid getting in Gertrude's way.

Buck smiled. "Ye're doon well," he shouted at Gertrude. "See yon hero, 'twon't let a clout like that stop her!"

He patted Nixie, who accelerated from walk to canter, passing by Zeera with an exuberant "on yer left!" and then breaking rightward, hard, thrusting out with the lance at an angle at a sword-wielding bandit. It wasn't a particularly good shot; he pulled the lance back to try to deflect the inevitable counterstroke when it came, bracing hard.

Eridan sighed as his magic missed their mark.

"Well, that's just lovely..." Despite his disappointment, he felt a surge of warmth. When he turned to see where it was coming from, he saw the gargantuan man from earlier wielding a Heal staff.

"Oh, a healer. Fantastic, at least now we'll have someone to stitch our limbs back together if we get careless."

He then turned back to see the archer draw his bow, and narrowly avoided getting his eye shot out as he ducked into the bushes.

"Speaking of getting careless.." Eridan muttered as he crawled out with leaves stuck to his capelet. Then, brushing the dirt off his tome and his person, rushed to one of the bandits and held his hands out once more. Dark energy coursed through his body as his hands gave off an eerie glow, and he once again launched several orbs at an opposing bandit.

The bandits attacking the village watched as two of their number fell to the defenders' blades and blasts, in particular the fiery explosion that reduced one to cinders. Buckley and Eridan took advantage of the distraction, Buckley driving his spear into a nearby swordsman as he stared dumbstruck at the crater that had used to be his comrade. With a look of horror on his face, he turned and fled back toward the houses he had come from.

Eridan's salvo of dark energy similarly took its target off guard, the first dark orb making the bandit howl in pain, though the second missed.

"Forget this!" the bandit cried, dropping his axe as he fled from the wall of blades and magic, only to find himself met halfway by his leader, and more particularly, his leader's axe.

"Either die to them, or die to me!" Borgos shouted, wrenching his axe free of his follower's corpse, and a few other bandits who looked to have been about to retreat as well grimaced and turned back toward the defenders.

Ah, yes, it wasn't a battle until Grendan had to duck an arrow. Fortunately Eridan hadn't been standing where it wound up landing.

Grendan considered the approaching enemy forces for a moment before deciding he didn't like the idea of advancing to engage again. Sure, these axemen were clumsy and inaccurate, but swing enough of them at once and they might actually manage to hit someone.

Grendan stays at F5.

Every instinct Buck possessed urged him to chase down the wounded swordsman. A few hits more and he would certainly go down; better yet, it would place him and the quiet-looking girl in an excellent position to crash down on the flank of the axemen.

He glanced at her. Certainly she looked too frail to be on the battlefield, but there was a quiet alertness about her, the same sense that hung about some of the older reivers back home that hinted at years and experience untold, and of course there was the way she had effortlessly flung those fireballs earlier. On second thought, Zeera would be an excellent second in a scrap.

"Raidy to go an' give them a guid—" Buck cut himself off as he noticed the movement on the far side of the river, and the great dead tree there.

Reluctantly he concluded that the three would-be infiltrators were a much greater threat than a single half-dead swordsman. It didn't make him happy; he settled for waving his lance to attract Zeera's attention, pointing at them, and turning about to retrace his steps, ending up near Sir Tigra.

"Men on the flank," he shouted he went by.

Buckley to F3.

Zeera watched as the horseman spun around, and then moved for the river.

Her first instinct was to chase after the swordsman, but it looked like he was pretty badly hurt.

I guess I'll follow him.

Zeera ran back towards the group clustered in the center. She then saw the axeman standing in front of Gertrude and readied another spell to lob at him.
