Not one to pass up a chance to finally use her brand-new toys, Vera lured Malia over towards her and picked her up with the new riding rings attached to Athena. She quickly flew ahead to a gap in the wall, drew her Great Bow back, and let loose a powerful pair of shots at the mage.

Hopefully she had gotten used to aiming that damned thing.

Request Malia move to Vera and use stamina to give Vera an extra turn.

Vera picks up Malia with bonus action thanks to riding rings, then moves to U25 and attacks Hodeskall 27 with Great Bow.

With danced move, drop off Malia on space W27 with bonus action thanks to riding rings, and then return to current space and attack Hodeskall 27 with Great Bow again. If he's dead, move to W25 instead of current space and attack Hode skall 30 instead.

"We're under attack!" the guard shouted out as Osroes came swooping down on him, lance and axe crossing in the twilight. The company moved swiftly, surging through the open front gate to overrun the first courtyard.

"Whashee yammering abou'?" a sage inside groaned, holding her pounding head as she regretted every decision in her life that had led to just how much she had drunk already in the young evening, until Vera came along and relieved her of all such troubles through the arrow slit.

As the company took the courtyard, a lone figure approached up the bridge from behind them. She had been traveling for weeks, at first wandering almost aimlessly in the aftermath of her library's destruction, but then purposefully north as she caught and followed the scent of more of her own kind in the air.

Manakete. Even in her weakened state, she could sense them, and she had been following their trail for days. Now, at last, they were in sight. Surely, they would aid her in her revenge.

"Uh, yes, your majesty..." General Gor said. "Uh, I'll just, um, go ahead and rally the troops, then?"

"Look alive, people," Corban Greham said. "It's show time."

Vera smiled wickedly, her eyes looking down at her hands, then at her bow. She had just killed three men with that thing, and none of them had even been truly lucky or remarkable shots. Just simple attacks.

She liked this bow.

It had been odd to see Bette return from the last battle with not one, but two bows she had pilfered from the battlefield, but upon closer inspection they had both been exquisitely crafted. Only, one was designed for novice archers who lacked speed and needed it to make up for their weaknesses.

She should probably give it to Osroes.

This Greatbow, though. Weapon was hers.

Looking back at the battlefield and seeing that the others had taken care of the nearby troops, she swooped in near the healer, who looked like she could use assistance in getting to the right position to use her new devastating tome.

"I think I can get you there quicker, no?" she said, picking up the mage with ease thanks to the rings she had equipped, and barreling towards their foes.

Move to V27 and pick up Sophia. Then move to R26 and prepare an attack with Greatbow. If she refuses a free lift, go to P26 and attack Hodeskall 55 with Greatbow.

If the problem isn't solved for her, also return dragonshield to caravan.

Move to R28 and defend.

Recommending that Malia waits for Brendan, Railen and Amystra to move (handing Amystra a Dragonshield when she passes); then, before Vera moves, she moves to W26, takes the Yellow Rune from Vera, continues to V27, performs a Dance of Stamina for Sophia and finishes at T27, where she trades a phial of Pure Water for Osroes' Elixir.

“May you serve our creator well!” Osroes smiles and nods a firm, satisfied nod, then briefly takes one hand from his spear to run his hand over Rsama’s shoulder, leaning over slightly to check the place where the foe’s spear had scored his pegaz’s barding. “Well fought, bondmate of mine…”

Pride of so many forms suffuses him, warm despite the frigid air of the northern dusk. He does his duty, of course, but that duty is far from arduous. Indeed, it is fulfilling.

The cataphract breathes, seeking to regain his focus, his mental order, and gazes forward to take stock; the work has barely begun. Even now, the cavalrymen guarding the courtyard seem to be shaking off the surprise of the attack, mustering themselves for a charge.

Let us meet them, then.

With barely a squeeze of the legs and a veritable wellspring of intuitive understanding, Rsama tenses and kicks off at a gallop, hooves striking at the ground, feathers flaring.

The pegaz of the Kambachan sands leaps from Regin soil as his rider briefly lifts the front of his chain veil to drink from the glass; his wings beat powerfully at the divine air, driving them forward and skimming the water below, spray fanning out behind them.

Osroes returns the phial to his satchel, taking his bow and a pair of arrows from his quiver. They will face the enemy head on.

Osroes waits for both of Sophia’s turns to finish before moving. If after her turn any of Hodeskall 54, 55 or 56 are not defeated, he switches to the Compact Bow, whereas he otherwise switches to the Killer Lance; either way, he moves to N27 and drinks from his Pure Water.

If danced, do not trade Twilight Crown. Move to N26 and attack Hodeskall 55, Chain Lightning Tome. If Hodeskalls at M26-M28 are not dead attack again. If not danced, move to R26 prepare an attack with Wind Tome.

Amystra had finally caught up with the mercenaries she sought. They who opposed Vissain's imperialistic tendencies. Of course, given her luck, she had arrived in the middle of a skirmish. She could wait until the combat subsided... or she could assist in their endeavors. A single moment of contemplation, and she dashed, following the mercenaries into battle.

The die was cast.

A storm bursts before them.

Radiance lashes at the Regish cavalry moments before contact. Rsama whinnies, eyes widening in fright at the primal glory that Sophia unleashes, wiping out the entire charge at a single, electric stroke with a great boom. The pegaz beats his wings frantically, practically stumbling backwards above the water; he has borne witness to magic before, powerful magic unleashed in the heat of battle, but nothing of this magnitude, this intensity, this utter chaotic might. The power is overwhelming.

Straight away, Osroes’ hands are away from his weapon and to his companion. His legs grip firmly, an anchor steadying the both of them as he soothes Rsama. “Hey, hey! Shh, now, shhh… It’s okay. It will not hurt you – it is of you, of the Light; she does not seek to harm you with it. Shhh…” His gauntleted palms caress mailed horsehair, stroking the long, smooth strokes that both know from years together.

They land. Rsama’s eyes shift, tail twitching, but as the moments pass the motions grow calmer, quieter, and cease. All the while Osroes leans forward, no focus spared beyond soothing his bondmate. The two do not notice as a once-Radiant passes by; indeed, the entire battle is alien to them.

In that moment, they are a desert.

Slowly, slowly, the Parni rider shifts backwards, taking measure of the enemy. There are more cavalry to face down, it seems. He takes his spear in hand. “You are alright now, Rsama?” he asks quietly.

Beneath and around him, he feels recognition. Calm. Surety.

Tension, of a good kind - potential, untapped.

The cataphract smiles; the spear is levelled. “Onward, then.”

The two once more take flight.

Once Hodeskall 50 and 51 are defeated, Osroes moves to M26 and prepares an attack with the Axereaver.

Recommending that Malia moves after Vera's turn has finished but before Amystra's has begun, heading to R26, handing Amystra a Dragonshield and phial of Pure Water and performing a Dance of Stamina for Amystra.

"Hm?" Sophia perked up as she felt small tug on the weave of reality that indicated another magic user nearby. "Oh! Another Mage? Did you see Malia? And you've got that shield. Here this should be more useful to you." She said taking off one of her rings and handing it to the other mage. "I'll trade you for that though". She continued taking the shield.

Once Amystra is nearby, trade Energy Ring for Dragon Shield. Prepare a heal on Osroes if he should reach half health, if not defend.

If Hodeskall 42 is not dead by end of turn: Move to J28 and attack Hodeskall 42 with Divine Tome. If 42 is dead, 44 is not, and I27 is not occupied: Move to I27 and attack Hodeskall 44 with Divine Tome. If neither of the above conditions are fulfilled, but Sophia is within healing range: Move appropriately and heal Sophia with Heal Staff. Otherwise, go to J26 and defend.

Recommending that Malia has her turn after Sophia but before Vera, moving to P25, trading a Dragonshield for Vera's Yellow Rune, performing a Dance of Stamina for her and continuing to N26.

The cavalry start forward – but they stall, the party lined up before them. Only one brave warrior is undeterred, axe swinging in accord with her steed's might.

Osroes and Rsama crash into her and her mount with all the force of an ironclad cataphract and pegaz. Spear-impaled, the two die instantly.

You will do well, Osroes thinks, even as he shouts: “They fear us! Let us show them why!” Rsama whinnies, tossing his mane amongst the rushing air to which he belongs. Their charge is unbroken.

Osroes waits for everyone but Astra to have their turn. If Hodeskall 42 is not yet defeated, he gives Malia the Elixir, moves to H27 (or, if H27 is occupied, I28 if nobody is present there already) and attacks Hodeskall 42 with the Killer Lance; if Hodeskall 42 has been defeated or this is not possible due to lack of spaces but Hodeskall 45 has not, he moves to G26 and attacks Hodeskall 45 with the Longbow; if Hodeskall 45 has also been defeated but Hodeskall 44 has not he moves to F26 and attacks Hodeskall 44 with the Longbow; if both Hodeskall 44 and 45 have been defeated but Hodeskall 42 has not and Osroes couldn't move to either H27 or I28, he gives Malia the Elixir, moves to G26 and attacks Hodeskall 42 with the Longbow; if all of them have been defeated, he dashes to E28. These mercenaries seemed awfully trusting of her. Were she a different woman, perhaps she would be inclined to take advantage of that trust. Instead, she silently nodded in thanks first to the dancer, and then to the other mage. Aiding their fight would surely lend credence to a plea for them to aid her own.

So resolved, she stepped forward and picked a new target.

Amystra moves to I27 and attacks Hodeskall 44 with the Fire tome. If 44 is dead, she instead attacks 42 with the Fire tome. If 42 is also dead, she defends.

Before all other party actions: Move to I28 and use Kyoshi's Spire to turn H28 into Plains terrain, equipping the Zanbato as a bonus action.
