The original P5 were appointed at a time when the users and the then-administration were growing increasingly hostile towards one another, and Martello was kind of a symbol of that. He should not be taken as an example of how the P5 have operated since he left.

Oh definitely. One of the reasons I like the TV Tropes forum so much is how civil the threads try to be, and that's why it was kind of shocking to me that that particular 5P member could say something like that and not be called out for blatant rudeness.
I'm not saying that all 5P members are like that, I'm just making a plea to take a look at how not to treat people who may have disagreements, even if those disagreeing might not respond in the most mature way either.

I could give you an earful about Martello, having gotten to know him after he left, but I will refrain. This job was not a pleasant experience for him, and he had a short temper and a tendency not to mince words to begin with. The latter, for as vulgar and abrasive as he could be, I at least had some respect for.
I have a direct response to Kaiser's comments about quality, but I will take TH's advice and take that to the policy thread.

Sure. I'll throw my hat in the ring. I've been editing for over a year and a half I believe. I try my best to keep up the trope examples and do so randomly.
I've been away from the wiki for a while, but have slowly started coming back. I used to be fairly active in the "left side" of the forums, I've launched a couple tropes, and I was previously one of the main users behind maintaining and updating the recap page for the Pokémon anime. I have a stomach of steel in regards to questionable content, and I feel pretty confident in saying I can remain free of personal bias.
This is my second account; my first username was Umbee. If I remember correctly, the only thing I've ever gotten into actual trouble for was repeatedly neglecting to cross-wick stuff, but I will also admit that I used to be a pretty unpleasant person and some of that might come through in some of that account's older posts and edits. I've worked through a lot of anger issues since then, so I hope my old abrasiveness isn't counted against me if I'm considered for the position.

But if the moderation is still deliberating on the final spot, among those who have volunteered, I'd recommend Assassin-Sensei based on his past work in this subforum.

Unfortunately, Assassin-sensei is not eligible for external reasons. Not our place to say why, exactly, but he might be a fit down the road.
We're looking at the idea of putting up a crowner for the fifth slot, but we'd like to narrow the choices down to the users we like the best out of the remaining applications. Will let everyone know soon.

Could we also make sure that any new members of 5P don't act like this (From the thread discussing Katahane)?
I'm pretty sure that sort of response violates the "Don't be a dick" rule. Even if the person being responded apparently also acted in a dickish way, I would've expected more maturity from someone on the 5P team.
NOTE: I'm not asking for that particular work to be reinstated. I'm just asking that anyone assigned to 5P act with a bit more maturity than that one particular member.
