>Syrup is viscous, so we have some time... How long is Sliss versus the width of the river? If he's long enough, have Bruno throw his front end across the river, possibly holding on to the back end over the river to get an extra foot or so. Then grab him and climb out, with Grimaldi climbing out onto him and pulling us to the side if necessary.

I don't expect this to work, so other players please come up with other Crazy Enough to Work schemes.

I meant to clarify earlier that Carl is indeed sinking slowly. But thanks for pointing it out, Zero L.

Carl throws Charlie the stick up to Sliss and tells him and Bruno the plan. Sliss is just long enough to stretch across the width of the river with Bruno holding him. He drives Charlie into the ground for support. Carl is able to climb out and grab onto Sliss. He's all sticky, but otherwise fine. He checks Nan the bag to make sure he hasn't lost anything. Fortunately, he's still got everything.

However, the bridge is still out. How will Carl and his friends get across? Note that Bruno is still holding Sliss over the river, and Carl is still clinging to him.

Out of the whole party, or out of the party members who aren't doing anything at the moment?

>Get everyone back off of the river. We could have everyone except Bruno cross, but we want to stay together. Then look around for any trees or such, and examine the posts, if any, that the bridge was tied to. Also look for large amounts of bushes.

>Ask which member of the party is the strongest.

Well, Bruno is the strongest, but he's busy at the moment. Captain Rust is the second strongest.

>Get everyone back off of the river. We could have everyone except Bruno cross, but we want to stay together. Then look around for any trees or such, and examine the posts, if any, that the bridge was tied to. Also look for large amounts of bushes.

Carl crawls along Sliss' body (sorry that sounds so weird) back to the side of the river that everyone is on. With a whip-like motion, Bruno flings Sliss backwards so that he lands there too without touching the syrup.

As mentioned earlier, this is still in the forest area, so there are plenty of trees around. The bridge is tied to the posts on our heroes' side, but untied on the other side. All the posts are intact. There are a few bushes scattered around, but they're all small.

>We have an axe. There are trees nearby. Break out your inner lumberjack, and if necessary, kick it down with your powerful legs so it lands in the right place.

>We have an axe. There are trees nearby. Break out your inner lumberjack, and if necessary, kick it down with your powerful legs so it lands in the right place.

Carl pulls out Stanley, finds a tree that looks to be a good size, and starts chopping. To deliver the finishing blow, he decides to kick it down. He is successful, but hurts his foot. It's not broken or anything, but he does hop around while clutching his foot for a few seconds.

Fortunately, it lands perfectly, stretching across the maple syrup river. Our heroes start walking across when something in the river bumps into the tree.

Carl tells everyone to go back but Grimaldi, who goes to the other side. As they walk off the bridge, more things start bumping, faster and faster...

Then they stick their heads out of the syrup. It's the leeches from earlier.

Didn't Carl pee on the leeches before?

>Get close to the side of the river, rapiers ready to slash a leech that jumps at us, and get as close as possible without giving an opening for more than one to attack safely at once.

>Carl, threaten to defecate on them again.

I don't care that you striked this out. We're really doing this. evil grin

Carl threatens to urinate on them again. One of the leeches screeches in panic and swims away quickly. The other leeches continue glaring at Carl.

>Offer them sweets!

You mean syrup-covered pancakes? Carl takes one out and slowly hands it to the leeches. One of them snaps at him, so he draws his hand back. The leeches slither out of the river, hissing at our heroes. They want revenge. You know what this means!

>Torch time!

Carl waves his torch at them. They draw back, and none of them are affected. If anything, they're angrier.

>Slice two in half, one with each sword, then leap back!

Carl slices two leeches in half with Loki and Set, then jumps back.

Unfortunately, little does Carl realize that as he does this, several leeches are crawling out of the river and forming a circle around Carl and his friends. Once Carl finishes this attack, the leeches all hiss, alerting Carl to their presence.

Carl and his friends are now surrounded by several leeches, way more than before, and they're all steaming mad.

>Throw a rapier to Grimaldi. Have us, Grimaldi, Captain Rust, and Bruno concentrate on slicing leeches, with us wielding the axe along with our one rapier, and prioritize killing leeches that attach to someone, while ringing around those of us without slashing weapons or leech protection.

>Ophelia, question what Carl meant by again.

Ophelia asks Carl what he means by "again". Carl realizes that he, Bruno, and Grimaldi are the only ones who faced the leeches earlier, so he quickly explains to the others about their meeting with Gluggar. He sheepishly admits that he tried urinating on them to get rid of them.

"Why did I agree to come with you?" Captain Rust mutters.

>Use interpretive leech dancing to horrify opponents into submission!

Carl doesn't know how to do interpretive dancing, but he gives it a try anyway, wriggling and waving around the way a leech would.

After a short silence, one leech hisses in a way that vaguely sounds like a "Boooo!", and the others join in. Then they continue closing in. Everyone's a critic.

Using this complex but great strategy, our heroes eventually kill all the leeches... except one, who starts crawling back towards the river.
